Hello Guys

So i'm wondering how would you classify the different S9 models from better to worst and in terms of differences

From personal experience i noticed the S9j's are better in every sens than the S9 (obviously) .S9i's i'm not sure about.

So whats the difference between S9 , S9j , S9i , S9k and if they were all the same price which would you pick over the other.

I only know that original S9 is quite ok and S9k is a bad quality model.

My s9k's shipped in sept 2019 were good

But  the latest s9k's suck.

I never had an s9j

I have 5 s9i's
I have 20 s9s

for the older s9's  batch models meant a lot.

Basically other then the known to have issues latest s9k's  most of the others should be okay.

131 to 156 are a mix of s9 and s9i  they have 6 dead boards   out of 23 units or 6 of 69 boards are dead.

Some of my s9's are from Batch 1 june of 2016

191-193 are s9k all good

look at averages on them  the 3 board ones all run in the 13-14  area.
look at numbers on the right for 24 hour numbers.

139 is my highest hasher  does 14.5 to 15th steady.

It is a s9i  and a very good one.

The S9j had the best asic yields, the fastest models (14.5) has boards that can take the highest frequencies and or the best efficiency. The S9i is rather good, no idea about k or se but earlier models were fine.

I would pick s9j first, then s9i, s9, etc.

I have had every single model of the Antminer 9 series and speaking from personal experience, this is how I rank them.

1-S9j
2-S9i
3-S9
4-S9e
...
9999- S9k

I would put the S9e somewhere at the top if the price per TH was not taken into consideration because the S9e runs pretty cool and it seems to be robust so far.

The S9k is the most terrible machine, not just the worst S9 version, not just the worst ASIC, it is IMO the WORST machine that was ever made by human beings.

Maybe the k are all the left over low yield chips that Bitmain wants to get rid from their inventories before ceasing S9 sales?

I agree with your list, its pretty accurate in my opinion.

Maybe the k are all the left over low yield chips that Bitmain wants to get rid from their inventories before ceasing S9 sales?

The K version uses BM1393 and BM1393B chips, S9/S9i use BM1387 and BM1387B and S9j uses BM1387BE, I am not sure if these "models" indicate different chips from TSMC itself or Bitmain adds something more to them after receiving them from TSMC, in other words, not sure if these are the worst chips Bitmain has or TSMC sold, this is due to the lack of my understanding on how these chips are actually used by bitmain.

Having said that, you are probably right, and it does not matter how did these chips came into existence, they are simply the worst once out there. I keep losing a board every now and then, to the point where I stopped bothering, these S9ks run alongside with old S9js/S9s that have been mining for years without any major issues, I think the Chinese know something we don't about the K version, by looking at the price tag in the retail market in China, a used S9j goes for almost the exact price as a brand new S9k.
