Hello everyone. I have two questions

1) can we change the email address associated with our account or its not possible after you sign up?

2) is there any rough guess of how many users are there on bitcointalk.org

Thanks

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

1. It's possible to do that by going to your Profile > Account related settings: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=account
2. We currently have 2,750,143 members. More stats: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats

<…> 2) is there any rough guess of how many users are there on bitcointalk.org
Regarding your second question, the number of users on the forum can be seen from various perspectives. For example, we could consider the total number of accounts on the forum, the total number of accounts that have logged-in over a certain period of time, the total number of accounts that have posted in a given timeframe, and so on.

Recently someone asked a similar question, and here’s some of the feedback on the matter:
Derived from the information that @malevolent pointed to earlier on, @Coin-1 keeps a nice thread where the numbers are charted in an easier to read manner: [Chart] Bitcointalk statistics on impression counts for ads

The data was updated at the end of December 2019, and there are two interesting charts to view:

- "Unique IPs from logged-out visitors for one round (10 days)", where the most recent reading is on 94.086 IPs in that timeframe.

- "Unique logged-in users for one round (10 days)", where the most recent reading is on 13.714 users in that timeframe.

This second reading is likely the most accurate one for a short timeframe window on 10 days. There are obviously non-logged in readers that do not show on the second toll count, but are included in the first of the above provided.
Note that the timeframe here is 10 days, whilst before we were talking about larger timeframes on other readings (3 months on BPIP).

<...> @DdmrDdmr, maybe you have stats how many users had made at least 1 post in 3 months? It would more accurate number of active users.
That would probably be a better reading. I could do that in relation to merited profiles, but not the rest, since I do not keep data on unmerited profiles. I did do something of the sort though a year ago (see Analysis – net posts created/destroyed in a month per rank). I thought it was pretty interesting, and from the data there (end of 2018 though) I derived that 53.858 accounts has posted in a timeframe of 1 month.

So here on this thread there are multiple possible readings, and two things come to mind:
- "Active users" will vary depending on the definition we give it (logged-in, posted at least once, etc.).
- The results will also vary depending on the timeframe (10 days, 30 days, 3 months, etc.).

The complete thread: How many active users here?

1) can we change the email address associated with our account or its not possible after you sign up?
Of course it's possible.
AFAIK, this process takes one week and your account will be locked during this period. You can refer to this quote from admin:
As an extra protection against any possible social engineering attacks, whenever* the administration changes an account's email address from its current value, the following process occurs:
 - The change is queued.
 - It is listed in seclog.php.
 - The old email receives a warning.
 - After 7 days, the change goes through and another seclog.php entry is added.

The account stays locked throughout all of this.

Hopefully it will be essentially unheard of, but if an account is going to be incorrectly transferred, everyone who knows about the incorrect change should noisily post all of the evidence they have so that we can at least put the change on hold and re-review the evidence.

* Admins can act outside of procedure and bypass the queue if necessary, but hardly ever will.
Note that in case you lose access to your account, you can restore it only to the original email used for registration even you had change it later.

2) is there any rough guess of how many users are there on bitcointalk.org
The number of registered accounts doesn't refer to the number of members.
In brief, there is an unknown number of users using an unknown number of alts.

Well, 2,750,143 members is really a lot, I don't believe it.
I think better to say that we have 2,750,143 registered accounts and I think it's impossible really to know how many are ''real'' people behind it.
Any way, thank you for this interesting info.
