I just heard sometimes during 2020 (likely mid-2020), eth2.0 is going for POS from POW. That means, my mining with gpu will be busted. Although there are couple of gpu minable coin aavailable from whattomine, I am thinking to switch to ETC. Is anything heard from ETC of switching to PoS. My understand is that ETC has much lesser market share and support, thus less resource considering immense technical challenge of going PoS. So the only possibility of ETC, if it has any chance of POS, is ETC hitch a ride by borrowing the technology from ETH. Any input?

We don't know for sure If they will actually launch ETH 2 in the middle of the year which is pretty much only 4 months away now. The ETH foundation is always late for many of its releases and I wouldn't be surprised if it's delayed yet again.

And even if it comes on time, it won't be full POS, it will most likely be a hybrid type of mining where it's part POS and part POW, so the miner rewards will still be there but maybe a reward reduction like we had in the past.

If they actually do go full POS in the summer then, obviously mining will be completely dead for all miners since the market cap of ETC and XMR is just too small with the amount of ETH daily miner reward. If this is actually confirmed, most will start to sell their GPUs before the fork actually takes place to go full POS.

Right now I wouldn't worry, ETH was suppose to go POS in Summer of 2016 actually.

AMD RX 400 and 500 are dead.  I don't think a lot of people mine eth with Nvidia cards.

Doubt that 2.0 will happen anytime soon, last I heard is that they scrapped all and started new from beginning

Some crazy bastards i know have ONLY mined ETH from day one with their Nvidia cards. Years now
i have a buddy i just saw last week that does that, such is his choice.
Its arguable that if he held to a nice ATH then sold, he definitely made a killer profit. And didnt have to jump around like us "active" miners
As his rig has also been hands free for years now, he literally forgets its in his basement for months on end
(its so covered in dust idk how it even runs anymore lol, you cant even tell what cards are in it (their EVGA1070's))

@OP. i agree with Adaseb, i wouldnt worry too much right NOW as ETH tends to never make deadlines Tongue
Mining is centralized mostly now between low power cost locations, and FPGAs
Once ETH goes PoS, the 3 million(?) cards needing something else to mine will Tsunami all PoW coins, ETC included
willl this crush them?or pump some of them? only time will tell! Smiley

~Got this girl in my bed, a roof over my head, i mint a couple coins a week, and thats how i make bread~
~On the 12th day of Hatzvah, OGminer said to me: "compute root of the merkle hash tree!"~

Yes i think there is going to be some flooding effect. At least for now ETH difficulty has crashed to around 2T now, not sure what happened but good news. I also see ETC difficulty took similar path:
