Does anyone know if setting up a shipping container mining operation on a residential plot is legal? I understand this is what most people probably do, but an LLC being set up on a residential lot might raise red flags and I want this to be a long term commitment. I'm in the market for land to place a container, but unfortunately limiting myself to commercial lots to be safe. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

It will entirely come down to your town/city regulations. Especially if you are registering as an LLC. So if you are purely zoned residential it's likely a no, but you would need to go to the municipal government office and ask them about zoning and what you can('t) do. The other problem is this will likely be loud and if you are within 20 feet of neighboring houses you are going to run into noise complaint issues more than anything.

No one can give your excellently answer without referring to the laws and legislation's in your country/city, but mostly such activities are allowed, especially if they are small and do not do justice as a company rather "a private activity."

The problem that will face you is the extent to which neighbors accept such ideas, as the noise produced may lead to the closure of your project, and the cooling methods, lights and others may lead to some problems.
In short, get the approval of the government and all the people around before thinking about starting.

It will vary on countries laws and regulation so we cant conclude nor give if this one will require some permits or not.Best thing to  be done is to ask out or seek for professional advice
to make it sure if you do really strive or serious on making that shipping container location. If it would make disturbance on neigh-boor then it will really be a main reason for it to be
rejected but well, you wont able to know if you dont ask or try.

Why would yuu want to incorporate an llc? If it's just that there are a few people interested you might be able to make a non incorporated partnership if you don't need the debt protection (but you'll need schemes in place to ensure you weren't trying to default on the electric company anyway to dissolve the company). You may end up paying kore too if you make it an llc then just a regular partnership.

(I'm with the assumption every/most country allows for sole traders to function as well as corporations).

There's a lot of regulation at work here because some countries will require you to measure its influence on the surroundings (how loud it is, how hot it gets, if there's a danger of fire). It's probably going to be treated like a power generation unit and I've seen these set up on temporary locations.
I'll give you an example of how what used to be public space was adapted in some buildings around me.

We had garbage chutes built in and the garbage would fall into a big container stored in a gadare-like building at the bottom of the block of flats. In similar buildings these places only bread rats and people voted they'd rather carry garbage outside than have rats running in those chutes, so they were never used, so every block has a couple of garages with a very convenient access to the street. The city allowed citizens to buy these and they used them for a range of things from storing motorcycles to holding backup generators. They even opened  bicycle repair shops and laundromats in there. If you could find a similar uoccupied space nearby it would be a much safer place to keep your hardware.

People have been converting attics, basements, laundry rooms, basically everything you can think of. It's just a matter of getting all the paperwork in order.

How big will the operation be? If we are only talking about a few miners maybe 10 or less and you'll just be the one operating it I think there will be no problem about that since you can just be living in that area doing some mining at your home. But if we are talking about you having a big mining farm where you have other men running and maintaining your operations this is where you will get some red flags in your operation, we are talking about a operation in a residential area here and that requires a special permit for you to operate since they need to see if the business you are doing can be bearable to the ones near you. Being a public nuisance here is one of the things you need to worry about especially if you mess up things or people will be irritated with your mining operations. One or two complaints about you with your fellow neighbor could mean a strike out for your.

It depends on the jurisdiction of the country. Where are you from?
