Day by day, Bitcoin is getting recognized and accepted as a means of payment and any other transactions around the world. And just recently, another foundation publicized their acceptance of Bitcoin as a donation option. Tony Hawk Foundation have added Bitcoin for their donations.

Just to give a short insight about this foundation, Tony Hawk the pioneer of this foundation is a professional skateboarder who aims to develop and improve the society through building free skateboarding parks in different communities around U.S. He focuses on improving the society by helping youths to shape their childhood and even their passion.

The foundation started accepting Bitcoin payments last 2019  through BitPay and OpenNode. Reports said that he started learning Bitcoin back in 2013. Hawk being not only good at skateboarding but also aiming to be also good in the crypto space. He will also be a speaker on a 2020 Bitcoin conference in San Francisco.

"Bitcoin is another new option for donors because we know that the people who intuitively understand our work are much more likely to be using Bitcoin. We try to stay aware of where our supporters are and be aware of the methods of payments they plan to use" said by the executive director of the foundation.

Believing that most or plenty of their supporters are millennials and can definitely understand by thiis group of people because most of their supporters know about cryptocurrency that's why adding crypto option is a good move to encourage more to help the foundation.

It's great to see more organizations are trying to accept crypto payments. Although not everyone will donate using Bitcoin or not everyone knew about it, it's already a good thing because with this they're also helping to promote Bitcoin while giving positive image on bitcoin itself. What's your thoughts about this?

Shouldn't really be a surprise now to be honest. Tony Hawk has been pretty open for a while now that he's holding bitcoin. He's even earlier to Bitcoin that most of us here. Tongue

As far as I know this was the first Tweet[1] he made concerning bitcoin; and also, he's even going to speak at the Bitcoin 2020 conference[2]!

It's a surprise to me since I don't follow what he's been up to since the 1980s (lol).  Not kidding, though.  I didn't realize he was in to bitcoin and that's pretty cool to find out.  I was not a skater as a kid but I certainly knew who he was 30+ years ago and have mucho respect for him, as he's one of the most straight-laced skateboarders ever and is a pretty good role model for kids.

He's also crazy wealthy as far as I know and has been for a long time.  I'm curious to know how much crypto he owns, though I don't suspect I'll find that fact out unless someone knows and can tell us.

Wow!!! Just really wow'ed by now.

I have been playing games that was named from him in playstation 1 but never thought there is a foundation like this.
Thank you so much for bringing this up.
I am an avid fan of the skateboarding games in consoles but sadly I never have the idea of following him. Now, I will.
The sudden connections like this, it will get you pumped up.

Wow, it's even more surprising to know that he's earlier than most of us here. It's Tony Hawk, the part of our childhood if you are into playing PlayStation games, his Tony Hawk's pro skater which made him more known for people that are not into skateboarding.
We've got something to follow again now, this is the kind of news that we want to hear always.

Just as I have stated on other similar threads in the past, the mass adoption of Bitcoin is inevitable no matter how long it might take which is largely due to government backlash on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Having the big foundation accept donation in Bitcoin is another huge step to mass adoption of Bitcoin and this is good news for the entire crypto community around the world.

I really like how Bitcoin becomes more and more commonly accepted for donations, it really does bring benefits for this use case, since PayPal and other methods often have some minimal fees or just don't work in some country, while Bitcoin has none of those obstacles. Though it is bad that donations are often accepted via BitPay, which has unnecessary fees and introduces centralization.
I also like it that way since every donation would be anonymous and we wouldn't know who donates it unless the donator wants publicity.
I like how the Big names are now accepting crypto and making a huge noise about it we have seen some music artist and now the famous skateboarding icon.
What would be the next one I hope sometime soon some charity foundation would also start to accept crypto .

Charities should graciously accept donations of any kind so it doesn't really excite me when beggars accept Bitcoin.  Bitcoin is not something one should give away; better to give your fiat.

I agree that it's good that it's happening. I think it's very important because in the eyes of many people Bitcoin is either a scam or money of criminals. Cases like this one cast doubt on these stereotypes, allowing to see that just like any other type of money Bitcoin can be used for good and bad stuff alike. I remember I saw another case when Bitcoin was donated to a university by its Alumni to help out + raise awareness of what Bitcoin is and how it's used. I've never heard of Hawk but helping people to have bright enough childhood seems like a good goal.

snip..
This is very encouraging news in my opinion ... Tony Hawk is one of the most influential people in the world.  We all know that what an influencer does will definitely have a domino effect on his followers..  hopefully, with this, more and more people want to get to know and find out about what is a cryptocurrency (not just Bitcoin), what are its uses, and the benefits.

I've always liked skateboarding, but I haven't followed news even from Tony Hawk for some time.
I don't think it makes much difference for BTC in general, but I'm enjoying the fact that BTC is being used for a lot of fundraising and charity projects. I think the best news is that.
Here in my country we also have several assistance projects that accept BTC as a form of payment, in order to reach the largest possible audience.

Wow, almost forgot about Tony Hawk and haven't followed what he was up to for like ages. Good to know that he is a bitcoin/cryptocurrency supporter and that he himself is holding bitcoins. Adding bitcoin as an option to donate really shows how supportive he is about bitcoin. Hope eventually more well known and big foundations will start accepting crypto currencies as donation option.

It is not surprising that Tony Hawk is accepting bitcoin in his foundation because he has been a bitcoin user back then he already stated that in one of his tweets that he's been with bitcoin for 6 years. It is good to see that big stars like him are starting to engage and accept bitcoin for their foundations and for investment too.

It is also good to hear that bitcoin is getting more common this day would love to see bitcoin being accepted everywhere in the next few years.

Good for him,but I really don't know how skateboarding can help for improving the society. This sport is really difficult to learn and practice and there are lots of body injuries(broken legs, arms, ankles) until you become a master at skateboarding.Having a skateboard was cool back in the 90s,but now most of the lazy young people  use scooters. Grin Anyway,I appreciate any initiative that accepts Bitcoin payments and donations.

You could say wow, we are happy because Tony Hawk has a bitcoin donation as an option for our supporters, the presence of Tony Hawk at the conference can increase donations for his foundation and goals, we are proud that bitcoin has expanded its acceptance, the Tony Hawk Foundation expanded to Bitcoin when it started receiving donation btc in the summer of 2019 .. Hopefully bitcoin will continue to grow ..
