Hi all,

A while ago I bought ethereum. I didn't think of it much and recently it crossed my mind again and I decided I want to sell them. But.... I can't figure out through which wallet I bought them. I do have the adress and something that looks like a password... Is there any way I can acces without remebering where I made the account?

Greetings,

Annemieke

Since it's Eth which is an altcoin, your topic is in wrong boatd.

To answer your query, if you believe that password looking phase is a private key then you can download any Eth client and restore the wallet. Be careful not to share it with anyone who you do not trust much.

Where you buy the ethereum.

If you buying from the exchange, you should check your email. A withdrawl process always got information by an email, so if you have multiple address you can know where you fund its moving and just need to find a private key from that address.

Can't you remember what wallet or exchange you bought those Eth? if there's something that looks like a password it must be the private keys and never share it to anyone here that will try to message you and ask you to help voluntarily.

Hey AJ,

Can you tell us how many digits your "password" is? You might be describing either the private key or the public key.

If it's the public key, that's not enough to recover your funds, but you'll be able to recover it using your private key.

Take a read through this, it should help with your situation: https://vomtom.at/ethereum-private-and-public-keys/

If it's only a password then I think you could work something out. First is are you getting a feeling that you make the wallet on myetherwallet? What apps are you using currently and what wallet have you used before? Did you get the private key, keystone, or the 12 word seed?

Try to find if you still have the private key and the 12 word seed. Try using that one that looks like a password to myetherwallet, it might be the privatekey. If you don't have those then btcrecover is your best bet in this situation if you have the keystone. I don't know much about it but I think it brute force password for Bitcoin, I'm not sure about Ethereum.

But if you don't have the any of the 3, then it's not yours.

Sorry in advance, this sounds really funny when you forget to buy where the site, exchanger or wallet is. just try searching your laptop's histroy. how to click in the upper right corner of your browser, then search for crypto-related history. then match the password or private key that you have.

good luck

There's not really a lot of Ethereum or multi coin wallet, you can compile all the wallets and make a list of it then try the password on all the wallets, and if it's a private key you will not have problem at all, just use Mycrypto or Myetherwallet and it will work on both wallets.

OP let us know if you're able to recover your ETH and if not take your time to remember the things you did when you've bought ETH.

Sorry in advance, this sounds really funny when you forget to buy where the site, exchanger or wallet is. just try searching your laptop's histroy. how to click in the upper right corner of your browser, then search for crypto-related history. then match the password or private key that you have.
It's possible that OP used a browser that doesn't save his browsing history and sometimes you could forget things when you're very busy.

If it's only a password then I think you could work something out. First is are you getting a feeling that you make the wallet on myetherwallet? What apps are you using currently and what wallet have you used before? Did you get the private key, keystone, or the 12 word seed?
With just a password its unlikely since he still need the file if it's through MEW.

That something that looks like password must be your recovery phrase so download a Ethereum wallet like trust wallet or coinomi and import that password in the wallet it will bring back your Ethereum

But.... I can't figure out through which wallet I bought them.
You dont buy ethereum with a wallet. You buy through an exchange. Unless you are talking about a wallet which has a third party integration with an exchange like the one that MEW now allows you to do.

You dont need to remember where you made your account. If you go to myetherwallet.com you might be able to recover your wallet access. Have you tried reading their help documentation and FAQs?

But if it was an online wallet service then chances are pretty slim for recovery.

Don't you have any private keys or seed keys?

If you have any private key, you can import it whichever you want. (I recommend myetherwallet or metamask)
Or if you have seed key, it doesnt't matter for Ethereum which wallet you try to reach. Just import it Enjin, Trust or Eidoo. It will work! ETH adress doesn't change with seed keys. If you try to import same seed keys to different wallet you can see that you can reach same wallet.

Just try iy.

And if you don't both private key or seed key, I am so sorry it seems not possible to reach that wallet again.

Maybe you are talking about the pass phrase you could try MEW(myetherwallet.com).
But maybe since you are saying that you bought it,Then it could be on an exchange platform try to check your emails to see which site you have deposited in the past.

- snip -
the wallet is not a problem the question is do you have any access to the wallet ?
What kind of wallet did you create an online wallet?
Did you stored your privatekey  ? If you stored your privatekey you can open it in myetherwallet any time you want to see your ETH.
If you forget the wallet and you  do not have access to the private key , then there is no way you can have it back .

I agree, browser history is the main door to help the OP to recall its activities at that time and there will be seen what has been visited, because without it all we also can't help OP, if OP don't remember anything about its ETH purchase, is it on exchange or a wallet? If on exchanges, there is an email connected at the time of registration, but if it is in a wallet or third-party app then usually there is a backup that has been downloaded to restore it.

What kind of password do you have? I hope your old wallet is not a web wallet cos if it is there is a problem, you won't be able to import into another wallet using just the password, you need to describe what the password looks like, do not show anybody though, if in words like 12 , 24 , 26 words then its recovery seed

I meant that if remembering the password is the only issue in case he have the keystone, then he could use something that could brute force it. At least that's what I've heard but I never really try to do it myself. If he doesn't have any of those 3, then it's not his wallet.

We are all waiting for this guy's reply and yet he only replied one time. Let's give him some time until he comes back to clarify most questions that we have.

I hope he will answer the necessary ones so that we can gather information and have a thought that's close to the possible answer that he needs.

Hi all,

A while ago I bought ethereum. I didn't think of it much and recently it crossed my mind again and I decided I want to sell them. But.... I can't figure out through which wallet I bought them. I do have the adress and something that looks like a password... Is there any way I can acces without remebering where I made the account?

Greetings,

Annemieke

Don't you have any private keys or seed keys?
(...)
I think he/she able to buy it on some exchange since he/she is talking a password with an account.
That's quite difficult to assist since OP doesn't provide any information.

We can't even confirm if the one looks like a password he/she mentioning is private keys, it may be Ethereum address he/she withdraws from the exchange?
If so, and he can't able to open and do some transaction on that Ethereum Address/Wallet, then there's no way he/she can get those funds again unless he/she got the private keys of the wallet.
