Don't hold some good but random altcoins for a long time. If you still want to hold then don't leave their telegram group or other social accounts, check updates on a regular basis.
You are right. Don't forget to update information regularly related to your altcoins. Sometimes there is good news or bad news that every holder needs to know. Not only about the rising value signal but also other things like swap, new exchanges, delisting info, or etc.

Because if you just hold and keep it in a wallet for 2 years then who knows after 2 years your coin's value may turn into zero value, because of the swap!
Basically I hate swap. It sometimes makes people confused and some may don't know the information. Moreover, if to swap token cannot be anytime, it is limited only a month or several weeks.   Undecided

Because if you just hold and keep it in a wallet for 2 years then who knows after 2 years your coin's value may turn into zero value, because of the swap!

I lost many coins because of swap things! Recently Insolar is swapping their token, I did not know about it, because I have been holding for two years but did not care enough as the price was very low! Today I was checking the Coinmarketap android app and saw Insolar coin increased by 530% but their ticker is XNS when I knew it was INS! So, I joined their telegram and get the updates about the swap! Unfortunately, If I fail to swap on time then all of the value of my holding coins will be zero! So, except Bitcoin, Ethereum, don't trust any coin for just buy and hold for a long time, rather keep updating yourself!
I think not all altcoins have a bad reputation even though some altcoins are not good but if you buy altcoin then you should buy altcoin in the top 10 rankings on the coinmarketcap list which in my opinion is still profitable and has a very high trading volume.

buying altcoin has a very high risk you can become wealthy if you are lucky in altcoin avoid altcoin which does swap because it is very detrimental to you when forgetting to swap.

Altcoins are mostly not form longterm hodl. Trading with altcoins is fun, but when it comes to legit project you should go with the big boys like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Most altcoins won't be around in a few years. Bitcoin and Ethereum will be.

I think an effective HOLD strategy is needed, There are 03 HOLD coin strategies:

HOLD to target, sell
For example, buy BTC $ 3000 and only sell when BTC $ 15000, this is a buy and leave it to sell only at the desired price. This is the most basic and least effective HOLD way. Assuming BTC goes to $ 14800 and you turn your head, you might have to wait another year.

HOLD flexible
This is the most effective and optimal way for HOLD. The key to how this HOLD is centered on the number of coins sold at a time feels right.

HOLD long term
Long-term HOLD is mainly applied to investing in long-term projects / coins that you really trust. You can buy and wait until the market is saturated, as well as the market to make things clearer

Its a must to keep updated to their telegram channel and other social media sites to know the progress of the project especially if this is tokens.

Im holding tokens that I got from bounties 2 years ago and they swap their token as well.

Because im updated with the current development, I swap my holdings in the exchange that support the swap. If I missed the chance then my tokens will become worthless.

If a survey is to be undertaken on users who continuously check back with the telegram groups of their projects after the bounty is over, I think only but 10% would be for the affirmative. It's not their fault imo, many of this groups become useless immediately the bounty is over, no updates and no active admin to control what goes on in the group.

This tokens are also always very low in price, so majority are always holding for a very long time, as the years run down, it's only natural to lose interest in the respective groups of this projects, especially for those who are holding numerous different tokens.

Don't hold some good but random altcoins for a long time. If you still want to hold then don't leave their telegram group or other social accounts, check updates on a regular basis. Because if you just hold and keep it in a wallet for 2 years then who knows after 2 years your coin's value may turn into zero value, because of the swap!

For some reason, many people still prefer to hold their coins instead of selling it and they always risk the profit that they could get right now for the better profit that they can gain in the future. If you already have the coin from the bounty campaign where you join and it still not listed on the market, you should always look at the updates on their social media account and telegram because it's your responsibility to know it and if you are going lazy to checking those update it might totally end up on the opportunity of earning good profit. I will only hold bitcoin, Ethereum, ripple for a long time and if I have some coin in my wallet that from bounty campaign it's either I gonna sell it out or hold it (especially if the coin has a potential).

To the OP, maybe just move on and try to find again another solid bounty project and make sure you will be updated on their announcements and news.

100% sure but if they are not addressing questions and there's no update anymore for two months, you can just dump all your coins and consider that a loss, if this is what happening in a project and investors and holders are seeing this, they will be in a hurry to dump their shares and you will be late to find out that you cannot sell your coins anymore.

Yes, for long term hodl it is better to choose good coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum, because the new altcoin does not necessarily have good potential like it is Bitcoin and Ethereum, unless the altcoin is always developed by itself and can be able to compete with altcoin which is already top.

So, except Bitcoin, Ethereum, don't trust any coin for just buy and hold for a long time, rather keep updating yourself!

Always chose popular coin as priority for all activity, it will reduce risk when market goes down or developer stop running their project. We don't know the future and indicator always follow market data ( present ), all opinion is about prediction. Check up date information is good but you also must predict bitcoin movement and event because those thing can break your strategy in second.

Swaps can happen or occur in a tokens life at any point in time especially tokens that have upcoming mainnet launch on their roadmap, the best thing to do is to keep track of all the coins or tokens you have so you won't miss any useful new and information

Hey OP, you are mot just alone. I faced similar problem with bitcoin-white coins. I held their coins for more than one year but they suddenly changed their projects and announced their swapping program for very short period of time but my bad luck I came to know about that after the expiration of that swapping duration and now tokens got stuck as their website and its wallet functionalities are not working.

There cannot be a common hold period for all the altcoins. I did the mistake there. I hold these coins but their value is shrinking and most of them got delisted: IPSX, SVD, BTW, ESS and bitrace token. I bought them during ICO but failed to encash when they were at its peaks and now regretting.

Yes, and if the tokens we have are really good tokens, it will be very useful to track them, but now there are many tokens that are no longer developed by the team so it will take a lot of time if we trace them one by one to get new information for those tokens.

Unless you got the altcoin from bounty campaign. You will not be regreted when you see the coin price is being unvalue because you didn't spend your money before. Like me for an example, I got some altcoin a few years ago form bounty campaign and at least there is just one altcoin that I think it is potential if I see its price movement. Namely bitcoin token, you may know this coin because a few days ago its price has increased. And the rest the coin are still listed on coinmarketcap but the value are being low.

It is actually happening.
At January of this year 2020, one of my altcoin is valued at 3.5 Ethereum and now it is freaking .6 Ethereum.
Been holding it for like 2 years by now just waiting for the ICO to be fruitful and their roadmap to be completed.
But hell, it is like someone is selling way too much. I bet it is one of the large investors or worse it could be the developers themselves.

There is no more update in Telegram group but there is still some at Twitter. I don't really know if I should still hold it. I am at large loss by now.
The only choice is too wait for more updates.

When that good coin cannot increase so high more than the price we bought, we can still hold those coins for more because we want to make a big profit from those good coins. We don't have to sell if the price if we are sure that the coin can increase higher than the price now because we will make a big profit when the price can really hit another higher price. But if you don't want to hold for a long time, then yes, selling that coin will be a good way for you to make a profit while you can wait for a while to buy the coin at a low price.

I don't think this is a big issue, because if you bought a coin, you have to care your assets! Swapping to new blockchain or in mainnet is very normal for altcoins! So, you have to be updated about all the new developments of your holding coins. You can use the Blockfolio app and turn on the notification so you can get all the big changes of your coins, in crypto every holder are doing this, you should do it too.

Actually, it is a common thing to happen in most altcoins in the market,
If you are holding a certain altcoin or those not so popular altcoin, you should actually keep yourself updated to avoid missing important updates about the altcoin.
Aside from that, if you are going to hold for that long, holding a popular altcoin is much better. Like eth, xrp, bnb, etc.

Only the new coins that has swapping event, this is risky if you not keep monitor of their telegram about their coin you could lose money. Yes, it is better to hold that already long existed in the market just like ethereum, litecoin, neo and etc. that has in the top coinmarketcap.

Holding some altcoins that are constantly being developed and developers staying active can be profitable. But what should always be paid attention to is the update on the telegram group for each altcoin.

I had had several altcoins that experienced incredible increases but I didn't realize it, because I rarely opened telegram groups.
There is even an altcoin that does SWAP and I miss the event and then the token becomes junk and can't be swapped anymore.

No problem holding a token for a long time if you really believe the token will provide benefits in the future, but we also keep updated and see the latest news about the token regularly.
I started to learn from many things that happened so that Altcoin that I hold remained monitored and did not miss a few updates that were made.
