Holding altcoins for a longer term is disastrous, many have lose their wealth on altcoins. Although am not a good investor of altcoins, but have invested much in some altcoins which later landed me in loose. Am now very caution of how long I have to hold my altcoins before sell. This singular act have ruin a friend life in 2017. He invested in one project then hoped that it profit yield positive, but the rivers was the case as he run at lost. I don't hodl altcoins on a long-term.

I think it was done by the developer to continue to force users to keep turning their coins. We know coins can continue to live from supply transactions. so when you defend it for almost 2 years it's quite a long time that should have helped the development of the coin.

This is the common mistake of long term holders, they don't give enough effort to keep an eye on their investment which is too simple to do.
Holding for a long time is also risky since updates like this one might happen. There are also few instances that they change contract addresses that's why keeping an eye on our investment should be done.

The title of the thread does not give a good caption of the OP post, however. Its a well written post which will help every coins holder especially long time holders. It might not be applicable to ethereum and some top coins because their updates will be everywhere. The way things change now is too quick and some of the CEOs dont disseminate information efficiently, so its important to stay in the telegram as long as you hold their coins.

Today I was checking the Coinmarketap android app and saw Insolar coin increased by 530% but their ticker is XNS when I knew it was INS! So, I joined their telegram and get the updates about the swap! Unfortunately, If I fail to swap on time then all of the value of my holding coins will be zero! So, except Bitcoin, Ethereum, don't trust any coin for just buy and hold for a long time, rather keep updating yourself!

That's very unfortunate. But you are here in the forum every time, the team should have update the ANN thread they created here for all to know about the updates. This is also something of the teams responsibility, shouldn't they have the perpetual swapping?

I have hold some coins too which there is an update to Bitfence Honeypot (HYN) which right now is bittrix and this time they are also migrating to EOS platform from ETH. The old projects are waking up

It depends on different altcoins. If you hold the top altcoins in this market, it will surely be profitable in the long term. But if you hold altcoins in addition to the top 50 coinmarketcap, the altcoins will likely die or lack volume in the long term because every day we will have better new projects to replace them.

If you do hold into something then you should really be at least be updated on what are the progress and developments of the project.
This is actually a lesson learn on your side yet you've missed to swap those coins that you've been holding for too long and with that
mistake you do able to miss on making some good amount of money.This is just on some cases though yet we know that altcoin

I agree. It is in need that at the very first place is that you have already recognized and sorted out the good altcoins from the bad ones and determine which is good for long term holding and those that are already needed to be given up for the sake of obtaining profit that can be used to buy some sort of good and potential altcoins. If you do really insist on believing into some sort of random altcoins is that you need to keep yourself updated all the times into the latest happening and updates from the team to be able to keep yourself up into knowing if you already need to give up your hope into such coin to be able to move on into investing or getting into another altcoin that have a lot more potential than the ones you have been holding for a long time. Knowing when to give up is also in need to be able to explore other existing altcoin in the vast market. Do not put all your life into sake just for only one coin you hold for a long time.

No one really knows when the downfall of the market can happen unless it already happened at that time. Maybe because you are overwhelmed on the market that time and because of that you really gain a lot of confidence to hold your tokens for a long time which is you are wishing as of now that you should not do that time. But you already decided it, whatever happens in the future must have plan B, what is the big deal if the token you are holding as of now is a token you are holding for a long time, as long as it is still there, I think it is still good for you because you have a chance to wait for the market to rise up again like the value of your tokens also.

Indeed, as an investor, you should know this one because maybe that time the particular project you have supported is good but when the downfall happens, they don't have some other plans to do and they cannot rise up again, sad to say but there are projects like that. So what are you gonna do to know that? You should read the whitepaper and the roadmap.

You're right, altcoins like ethereum, BNB, BCH, BSV, and others are altcoins that are worth holding back. however, I only hold altcoin which is very potent and I control it. maybe there are some coins that I sell late, and now it has become a meaningless asset in MEW that I have. yeah, maybe altcoin like that shouldn't be held in the long run.

Depends on what altcoin you are talking about, sure you may not want to hold something very low and not really liked for a long time and I can understand that, but if you are holding big ones like ethereum for example that means you can do it and you actually should do it. It is just a way you could potentially make money and that is kind of the whole point of holding long term as well. If you can hold bitcoin for long term, you can hold ethereum for long term.

There are some others as well for long term too but everyone should check those for themselves, I just shared ethereum since it is second ranked biggest coin of all time and highest ranked altcoin right now so that was obvious but there are few out there which you can hold for long term as well.

Making our investment security our number one priority is something many Investors take for granted that's why issue like this come up every now and then. Assuming you're not comfortable staying in the telegram group due to the numerous spam and off topic discuss, you can follow other social media channels of the project that way you won't be left behind Incase of any development. Telegram channel is a more preferable news update medium.

Like you, I suffered a similar loss. Holding a random coin long term is not a good idea. Because they doing new update, swap suddenly so it’s hard to follow everyday their new updates. I think many people in the crypto community have had this experience in some way. From here I learned that if you hold a coin, you must know about the regular update of that coin. On a sincere note, swapping of tokens has dealt with many investors who wishes to hold for long term, and the worst thing is, after swapping is done there is nothing that can be done about it. This also justifies the fact or the reason why most investors or users who wishes to hold long term tends to go for projects that are already on their own blockchain or preferably top altcoins. On the other hand, Information is also powerful which is why no matter the type of altcoin you are holding, visiting the group of the said altcoins once in a while matters or if possible setting your email to always receive notifications from them. I believe this will go a long way in reducing sad aftermath stories.

I think investors should take care about those things because the coins swap is regularly happening in crypto market because of changing their blockchain platforms or launching own blockchin. So if we are a investors then we have to check the details about the coins status and prices daily or weekly base otherwise we will lose our funds if anything happens like that.
