Now substitute the word "blockchain" for "database" and tell me again how this is news.  No one (aside from marketing executives, maybe) cares if a blockchain secured by a single entity is used, because it's literally no different to a database.

Personally, I do not see something breakthrough in this news. They just transferred their database to the blockchain and that's it. As for security, I would argue, any person can transfer his phone to another and he can go through without checking instead of the first.

For those that care:
https://www.uefa.com/insideuefa/news/newsid=2638651.html

As DooMAD said, this is about a database.
It's not about bitcoin, it's not about altcoins, it will not have a token or an Ico, there will be no cryptocurrency and no currency at all.
Do I have to add that there will be no mining, no masternodes, no block rewards, no decentralization?

Adoption is coming. There are so many cases on which the blockchain technology is used, even today. I really love to see this and we are still early. There is so much more to come!

Blockchain is becoming incredibly popular, but does this mean that the world can change and look at crypto?
When you say "can the world change... " do you mean a change that will herald only cryptocurrency being used, without fiat or any other method of payments, that wish may never come to pass.
The blockchain may be more popular that cryptocurrency, and it's understandable, it's more viable to be used in more areas, even in ones that are not related to digital currencies, just as its used in the OP. Cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology are working well imo, more adoptions will happen, but the world won't use crypto only.

It does not mean much, it is not linked to bitcoin, but to Blockchain.
In spite of that, but I see some positive news, the more people understand about how Blockchain worjs, the more awareness and the easier it will be to accept applications Bitcoin and Blockchain (Do not forget that it took many years for people to forget about the gold standard after 1971.)

In the past, it was linked to dark activities, support for terrorism, drugs, and now opinions have turned into bubble, bad investment and others.
Even if you are not going to change the price, it's good.

I think Cointelegraph was one of the first to publish some new son this around over a week ago, echoing some of the information provided in the UEFA link provided by @Stompix.

I’ve seen some sources decontextualize the news, and not delimiting the scope of it to the UEFA 2020 Euro (Euorocup) specifically. It does not apply to any other competitions yet. This year’s Euro event is held in 12 different countries in Europe, changing the traditional format of the event, which is normally played within a single country.

The system aims at reducing ticketing fraud, being Blockchain the basis (but as already mentioned on this thread, a regular BD (with some replication for fault tolerance) could just as well be the supporting information repository).

Those that do use it, do have to install a specific App and activate their Bluetooth in order to allow for the steward to activate and validate the ticket at the gates. I wonder what the B plan is if someone who purchases a ticket and uses the App has issues with the Bluetooth pairing/permissions …

I wonder if they really build a "blockchain" or just a centralized database that has been used many times by a lot of organizations across the world but spin it around for marketing purposes.

Even in my country which most of the time are somewhat slow with adapting to the latest technology (smart lamp etc is not yet famous here) we already use this 'blockchain' for an e-ticket. Carry your phone and shows the barcode to the reader at the train station and you'll be fine. Fast and easy.

No, you don't  Grin. This whole initiative does not promote blockchain technology and cryptocurrency in any way. But has anybody heard of this CHZ coin where some European teams are investing in it? I think in the near future some cryptocurrencies might adopt the use of some stable cryptocurrencies as a mode of payment especially with the increase of the spread of Coronavirus.

What would really be news is that UEFA makes it possible to buy tickets with Bitcoin, then it would have something to do with crypto and would be worth discussing. This looks like some sort of attempt to control ticket sales, and that the whole process as many automates and to save on paper ticket production.

Those that do use it, do have to install a specific App and activate their Bluetooth in order to allow for the steward to activate and validate the ticket at the gates. I wonder what the B plan is if someone who purchases a ticket and uses the App has issues with the Bluetooth pairing/permissions …

From what I read, there will be no need for staff to activate tickets, they will activate themselves when the visitor approaches the stadium (if BT is on), and staff will only check QR codes on mobile phones.

Quote
The new state-of-the-art mobile ticketing system will provide secure ticket distribution and help prevent the replication and duplication of tickets, with QR codes only being activated by Bluetooth once fans are in close proximity to the stadium.

Unfortunately, there is no reason to be excited about it. They just will use blockchain technology and there is relation with cryptocurrencies. Lot of big companies have adopted to use blockchain technology, UEFA is just one of them. But can someone tell how many of them actually started to accept Bitcoin payments? Because just adopting blockchain technology don't give any benefits to cryptocurrency.
I doubt that UEFA are considering to accept Bitcoin payments for tickets, especially when some banks are important sponsors of UEFA.

This would checkmate ticket racketeering which is rampant in most stadia I believed decentralization via blockchain would block any loopholes associated with the tickets getting to a third party moreso this is also a plus to adoption of this technology in a sport rthus unveiling an opportunity  for more adoption.

Don't care if it's a private blockchain but if they actually make it useful for us to see and get a "provably fair" demonstration of exactly how those random assignments happen, I'd like to give it a try. Kind of tired of always trying for those lottery tickets (ask me about Eurovision too dammit) and just never getting it... only to see hundreds of them on sale by touts later on.

Don't think we ever will get that though. The same executives probably have backdoor deals with touts.

What I'd welcome is a way to verify entries via a bitcoin wallet let's say. And prove ownership later on at the gates =D make it that much harder to tout these tickets.

although it may still be at a trying level and there may be obstacles that occur, however we must appreciate for the progress that has been made which indicates that there is an acknowledgment that it can be proven that the blockchain can be very useful for progress. at the beginning there can be certain obstacles and it will be a lesson for the future.

Before we're all excited if there's a company or establishment that will use the technology for its purpose. But yeah, it has nothing to do with bitcoin or cryptocurrencies.

Well, let's see how this application will do.

Adoption is coming. There are so many cases on which the blockchain technology is used, even today. I really love to see this and we are still early. There is so much more to come!

Most of the time though, those supposedly "adopting blockchain" is just riding the hype, as others have said, they can simply use centralised database, problem solved.

But why so many companies are moving to so called blockchain? because it's the latest craze, and they thought that blockchain can be a game changer for them.
