It depends on a gambler's mindsets, maybe it would help but if they are addicted then they will surely disregard the fact that it affects their assets negatively. The problem is even if they have done that but they don't open their minds for realization then it won't work. Personally, I don't do any record with regards to my gambling expenses because I only use my extra cash, but my experiences makes me realize that I need to understand my limits. I experience playing without knowing my limitation which makes me lose some of my funds and my situation that time makes me realized that I should stop it, because it can affect my way of thinking and even my life. It makes me realized that if I gamble, then I should have self-discipline and limitation because it will guide me on handling myself properly.

Not a bad suggestion. A lot of people snap out of bad habits when they can see the numbers and the effect of what they've been doing, and this isn't much different. I actually did something very similar to this when I would waste money on unnecessary spending about two years ago, and this largely made me change my spending habits as a whole and helped me to make monetary decisions in a different way than before.

Besides just recording these losses and thinking about what you could've bought with the money, spend some money on yourself too and feel the joy you get from that. These things resonate much more deeply when you can feel it.

I really don't think it's the case though bro.

Think about it, look at obese people. They are almost certainly aware that they are severely overweight, if they step on a scales it will be made painfully apparant, while even looking in the mirror there would be no avoiding it.

And yet these people continue to overeat, not simply because they're not aware of what they're doing to themselves, but because they lack the self control to stop.

Problem gambling is no different IMO.
Self-control is indeed the main issue here not only on gambling but in all sorts of things in real life where everything does really need some moderation.

It will just depend on a certain person if he would really be serious on getting rid of problems that might happen ahead on if he would tend to continue on what he'd been doing.

Keeping a record or not, if you are really serious on stopping then you can definitely do such thing without the need of anything.

What do you think, will Keeping A Record Of Your Losses Will Make You Realize To Stop Gambling?
After seeing that you could have bought a new motorbike or buy an expensive watch on all your losses that you have computed.

No. A gambler has a gambler's mind. I cannot speak for everyone, of course, but I don't think there are many gamblers who will look back at the money they've lost in gambling, feel sorry for it, and call it quits.

Well, how I wish gamblers have this mindset. But, just as chain-smokers do not look back and compute the money they've wasted on cigarettes and decided to end the vice altogether, majority perhaps of the gamblers wouldn't cry over spilled milk. They had, after all, fun and a chance to win and multiply their bets.

The older the gambler gets, the harder for him/her to quit. We have this local idiom taas na ang lubi, which means it's too late to quit or one has already spent big for something there is no point turning back or stopping this late.

I think it's better to forget your losses than to keep a record of it. I don't have an exact one but I do have a tentative loss of about 0.2 BTC in gambling in the last couple of years.
that is what you spend in online gambling mate, what about the amount spend outside the internet?i means in gambling places like casinos or gaming with friends in real?haven't you estimated also?
And everytime I think of that, I tend to bet more to recover my loss. And even though I have small wins now and then, I don't keep a record of that and stick with the figure of 0.2BTC.
you are targeting to win it back mate?is this what you mean here?or i did miss one?though yeah i support that to not recording the losses instead forget it if you really want to enjoy gambling.

What do you think, will Keeping A Record Of Your Losses Will Make You Realize To Stop Gambling?
After seeing that you could have bought a new motorbike or buy an expensive watch on all your losses that you have computed.

For people who want to know how much money they already been used in gambling, that record will help them to calculate their winning and losing. They can know if gambling games can help them to make money or even losing money. But for people who don't use gambling as a way to make money, they will not have to make or keep the record because that will no use to them except they will only see the money amount that they already used for playing gambling.

The money that we spent on gambling can be used for another thing, and as the OP said, that money can be used to buy a motorbike, or we can use to invest in another thing. The record will give us some image of how big the money that we use in gambling.

More like tracking your loses right? But I would prefer setting a limit to lose within a day of gambling. This is my scheme to not lose that much but it is not that easy. One should still have self control at the end of the day because if greed would be superior, limits will not be followed. Good thing is that I am able to stop playing despite of thr loss as long as the amount is just as how much the limit I have set.
Gambling addiction is another thing and no strategies would be effective if the person himself won't follow such routine. Self control would be the bottomline in order for one person, gambler to be more specific,  to not let himself be dragged down by addiction and frustrations.
What do you think, will Keeping A Record Of Your Losses Will Make You Realize To Stop Gambling?
After seeing that you could have bought a new motorbike or buy an expensive watch on all your losses that you have computed.

I'm seeing another way around.

If gamblers will record all of their losses and realized that those amounts can now buy an expensive thing they want, it will just lead to more gambling activity to chase those losses since they regretted losing it. They will now have a target to get back those losses and will decide to stop once they achieved it although it's impossible as there is no way they can recover all their losses easily.

And I don't see the essence of computing all my losses. Instead, I will more be focused on improving my strategy to maintain winnings.
Realization is the ideal outcome of this method. Recording your losses would help a gambler reflect to how much money he have "wasted" and that he should have used it to a more necessary thing. But one person won't realize that if he is that much into the activity. Also, there is also a possibility that if a gambler who is addicted into gambling, saw his losses, it might give an urge to regain the loss which can yield to bigger loss.

This is a big no for me. And I'm sure no-one would do this in gambling. Gambling is not a business, no need to take down notes. Keeping a record of your losses would only result in frustration and urge to recover the losses. Never a good idea.

Instead, stop without any reason. Stop as it is necessary. If you felt that you've lost enough cash and some assets for your vice, then stop directly without looking for any options to quit it just to justify and to keep your gambling. No more last bets and no more resolutions and just stop, that is the solution. You should make sure to avoid the addiction to gambling. It will never be healthy. But gambling is for fun should be the thing.

Stop freely that is better, controlling your self will is in need for you to stop this activity, keeping records of your losses is indeed will only urge you to try playing back and recover, most of the time it's your own determination to stop that will lead you to quit away from this business. No matter how good you keep any reference of your previous games without a self will nothing will change.

Nope, most gamblers are aware of their losses in gambling. Maybe not exactly how much they have lost but at least they are aware of the estimated figures they have already lost. However, this will not stop them from gambling. Most gamblers hope for a chance to win big in gambling either by jackpot or simply by playing and wagering big amounts. Even if you keep track of your losses, gamblers might even find a reason to play more since most gamblers play to chase for their losses which is not a good practice.

On my personal perspectives about the computation, maybe I would regret all of that losses. It might change my plans in life and because of that record, most probably gambling might be removed on my priorities and start a new ways of life. The journey will begin and another chapter will start, because we will realize the importance of money if there's a data from that activities which will inspire us to change ourselves for good. This is really recommended and will suggest to my relatives and friends.

It is a one way to motivate yourself to stop on gambling a great way to be angry to yourself.
I am thankful that I only lose a few Bits since I don't gamble much and I would rather save it and use it on other things.
But this wouldn't really stop me from gambling since I am doing it for fun and I always limit myself to only deposit small amount.

Actually this was one of the methods that made me give a break to gambling. I personally didn't kept track of all my losses but the website I was gambling on had a data type of thing where you could see your statistics and it showed how much you wagered and how much you won/lost as well.

I didn't realize that had something like that for a long time and just gambled whenever I wanted to, after a while I realized they were keeping track and checked my own statistics and realized that with the amount of money I lost, I could have paid all of my debt, that made me quit gambling for a long time. I paid all of my debt and became financially alright and came back, now I have debt again so I am starting to think there is a correlation Cheesy I quit gambling last week so let's see how it will do.

Keeping a record is a good way to track your loses especially when you gamble a lot and you wll have realization about the a lot of money you spend to gamble, but even you have record to your loses, still its depend on you if you quit to gamblng to overcome your loses or not. But if you can't stop the urge to gamble then you should be have record all your win and lose, to aware you from any harm you might encounter because of it.

Depend on the persons .
If the persons is too addictive in gambling or they make it as a hobby it will never change his mind to play even he see how big  its lost from playing.

Its like other addiction- smoking and drinking if they see the amount they lost and payed having this hobby would they stop?  Of course not
They will find it difficult to remove what they already have or do every day.

What do you think, will Keeping A Record Of Your Losses Will Make You Realize To Stop Gambling?
After seeing that you could have bought a new motorbike or buy an expensive watch on all your losses that you have computed.
if we will value our money?yeah i am sure this will help a gambler stop or at least Control His expenses in Gambling.

my brother use to do this before,i remember when we are playing in Casino he always Keep His mobile open and typing so i asked Him what made Him busy, then he told me that he is recording the amount spends that night.

and after i think more than a year?now he plays only limited time and tells me that he realized that it is not good to gamble many times because the losses are more than many times than wining

Yeah, exactly. Show smokers the disgusting pictures on cigarette packs and show alcoholics the liver disease and it does not stop them. I told my friend he smokes 1/2 packs a day how much he spends in one year, and he could already even afford a new luxury car with 20 years of smoking but does it stop him? Addiction is something very special to deal with.

I see this as a different case for me.

Yes lack of self control is there both in gambling and in eating but eating is needed by our body while gambling doesn't. These obese people sees eating as their hobby and they love what they are doing so they are just eating and eating. In gambling, it is not a thing that we need to do anytime and you can stop it anytime you want but it will depend on the gambler.

In the end, lack of self control is the problem both with a gambler and an obese person. We don't need to record our losses in gambling because one day, you will just realize that you've lost so much money already and this will happen if you don't have money anymore.

I think it is a good way of making yourself feel guilty because you can easily see that you are losing all of your investments. But what if you're losing yet still winning little by little? I think it is still not effective. For me, if you really want to get away from gambling you just make the move without listing. Yes of course you cannot just wake up and like a magic you totally avoid gambling but if you really want to stay away you will find a way.

No matter how you keep a record of your losses if you can't control your urge of doing gambling, it will still not benefit you. The first thing that you have to do upon entering gambling is to set up your limits. You should know when to stop and when to continue. Allocating enough funds for gambling would be an effective strategy to control yourself.
