Yes, it is. Merit and activity score are combined to determine your rank, but you could have found this information with a little research. You would have also found the answer to the 'how you can increase your merit question' through a little research.
That is the reason you should prioritize knowledge first. Read and learn. There are many facets of this industry and exploring all will allow you properly utilize it.

You must have required both activity and merit to increase your rank, not merit only. If you have requirement merit for legendary ( 1000 merit ) but you not have activity requirement for that rank, you will not rank up to legendary. Example of this member nullius
He have 1300+ merit but only have 252 activity. His rank is Senior member now, to reach Hero member (480 activity) he must wait for 4 months, and to reach Legendary he must wait for 8 -12 months more.

Constructive reply means discussion on topic and make best answer or solution. For example someone ask how can I save my wallet, your reply should on this topic and you can share your tips. If its unique and best idea then I will consider it's a Quality post.

Yeah, asking is not a bad thing. Before create a thread, you must use the search button for finding your question is have been discussed or not. If the topic have been discussed you should not create a same topic.

Just read, answer, create topics and the like. It's a very general answer yes, but that's really the only thing needed to get merits. No amount of "guides" could help you earn them. Why? Because it's all entirely dependent on how you face the topics and threads you participate in. Just like how English is naturally built up over time, knowledge, as well as proper formats of replying and posting (so that you aren't a bother to the rest of the members of the forum), takes time, so well, just spend a few hours in the forum participating and reading.

If you really want to increase your merits then I will suggest, don't create thread about merits unless you have unique analysis or something similar. So many guidelines have been created by senior members about how to earn merits. So please learn how to use search button before you make any new topic. Sometimes your new topics would encourage spammers.

However, there is no alternative way to increase your merits except contributions. As much you contribute your knowledge & experiences, you would get more merits if posts are really worthy. So don't give up, try to contribute yourself and don't look for merits.

First thing you need to do is to read this guide created by Lauda https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0

After that try to be more reconstructive and post a helpful contents so that you will be notice by users and you will receive a merit for that. Remember the more helpful post the more chances for you to get those merits.

And also be true to yourself here and study on how the forum works since this one will help you.

Based on both of your topics opened, it's obvious you're simply trying to join for the sake of money.

Now bear in mind that while it's not impossible to start earning here, you have to integrate yourself with the community, rather than post for the sake of posting. Be helpful when it's needed and don't make posts along the lines of "gimme Merit plz". I was like you back then because getting paid to post was something new, but over time, I learnt to treat the forum as a casual hangout space and enjoy spending time here.

So assuming you've attained sufficient Merits to join a campaign, which is at the Member rank. Currently at the time of posting, you're 7 points short so your journey might not take too long. There are many signature campaigns out there, but many impose strict conditions, such as minimum character counts of 75, posts not counting in several subforums and such.

Once you've decided to apply for one, the campaign manager will look at your post history. Merits earned within X days might also be considered. The moment you've been accepted, you're good to go, but remember the rules and don't come off as a spammer of a shitposter.

If you've any doubts while joining the campaign, always contact the campaign manager. While there are various degrees of leniency, usually all it takes is 2 strikes and you're out.

TL;DR - Don't treat this forum as a money-making machine and you'll do fine.

Forget about merit, it shouldn't be your goal, right now for a newbie like you the first priority should be learning about crypto. Once you become knowledgeable enough, you can start earning merit while just sharing your knowledge. But if you'll try to jump straight into "earning merit" you will fail, I see a lot of newbies try to do so by copypasting from outside sources or creating guides that were written before them countless times - obviously no one will give you a lot of merit for that. In worst cases you can even get banned for plagiarism or text-spinning.

Just be useful and helpful. People often intend to misinterpret having merit and having a good post. Some posts were just funny and still meritable. Some do makes no sense but still meritted because some users found it to have some sense.

Therefore, never motivate yourself with earning merit. But instead be motivated helping other users!

I guess its better for you not to think about gaining merits just behave normally, communicate with other members normally, help them if you know the answer to their questions. Create useful threads but use search button first before creating a thread it might already exist, you can also help your local members at local board. But those are not required to be a good member of the forum. Also, be knowlegeable about forum rules. Merits will come your way don't be pressure about it.

Gaining knowledge is easy here because you will find all and complete information about bitcoin, altcoin or any crypto project or gambling sites etc. Earning is not and should not be the primary motive here. Also you need to rank up in order to earn from campaigns unless you have some skills for which you do not have to wait for ranking up. You have got 3 merits and will continue to get more as long as you posts are interesting or helpful to others.

The conceptual principal is to be as objective as possible when awarding merits. That is, if you have real friends here, but their posts are not really any good, then they should not be merited. Of course everyone’s objectivity has at least a spice of subjectivity, meaning that one may be more prone to some groups of people than others, or at least to some types of posts than others. It’s kind of human nature, but the objectivity principal should try to prevail.

Merit abuse is really more down the line of meriting each other for the sake of giving each other’s accounts merits. Now the forum has seen plenty of cases where one (allegedly) merits his alt accounts (which is considered unethical). That sets a precedent, and there are people that look for connections between accounts, being merits a possible strain of feasible proof. Of course, other may get caught in the crossfire due to these precedents, so the more prudent scenario is to always try to be as objective as possible.

One thing to consider is that merits are not moderated, but they are traced. Historically, some cases of very blatant abuse have been undone by @theymos, but the more usual derivative is that of getting sender and receiver potentially tagged (Trust tag, with negative review and rating). This is an on and off thing, and not everyone agrees to this use of the Trust System , but it does happen with more recurrence than one may think.

You are right with prioritizing gaining knowledge because you will also need it to gain merit. Having knowledge can help you start your own informative topics here in the forum.

Earning merit takes time and you don't have to push yourself earning merits. It will come if you truly deserve it. But what I did before, I tried giving quality posts and I also tried starting my own thread like some crypto-related news to give updates to other members here in the forum.

Since you are new to this, you can start from your local board there because it's easier to give your best when you're interacting with your fellow citizens. But my advice is just, you have to give your best, effort, and work on being helpful to the community. You can do it!

In terms of merit, it is quite hard to earn lots of it nowadays. Even those who post the most reliable and informative things here in the forum finds it hard to earn merits cause there are only few giving it. Based on what I heard, there are some specific area in the forum the giveaway merits and it is for you to find out already if you really want to rank up. Even though it is hard, always make sure still that all of your posts in this forum are related on the topic and at the same time, others will get new information from it, who knows maybe someone will notice it and give you merit.

Just a few quick comments on what you commented:

Since those numbers are more or less stable, I’m going to assume that the forum is Ok with them. That makes earning merit not a piece of cake, but not impossible either by far. It is not though easy-peasy, and it does require some persistence in posting content that is decent enough (which entails time, likely often on a larger scale than one is prepared to commit).

On the topic of giveaway merits, conceptually they do not exist. There are though some threads where people may post links to some of their prior post in order to see if the OPs of those threads want to merit any of the linked posts. These are not giveaways in the sense that, ultimately, it will depend upon the OPs criteria what to merit and what to leave empty handed (as well as to the amount of sMerits he's willing to use on the thread). It's an on/off sort of thing, and I don't think there are that many of the kind currently active.

Creating quality posts is the only way I know to gain merit because if someone appreciates your posts then he or she might give you one. So just keep creating good posts even though you are not gaining merit for now, do not feel bad that is part of being a beginner.

But lately, I have seen many beginners like you even find it very easy to get merit from other users even though it was in their first post on the forum. I'm not saying this is a mistake, but here are the facts. Anyone will have the opportunity to get merit without exception if other users want it, especially now there are some people who deliberately compete to send merit to a beginner, even for one or two simple questions. There is no discrimination against beginners to get merit, it's just that you need to make a little effort to get it.

This is will help, but if I see in some post who make a translation's thread the translator just translates literally. Even, some of them didn't understand what is loaded from the original thread so as if someone ask some question the translator just ignore it. I agree if this way will help some people to understand especially for those who have a bit knowledge against english, but it will be better if the translator has been overcome the intention form the original thread.

Right, this is what DdmrDdmr calls the principle of sending merit objectively according to my understanding. Because merit is not moderated, anyone can send it (if sMerit balance is available) on every post on the forum. Its just that you have to choose which posts you have to send and of course quality posts. This is not a rule but has been agreed by everyone here, and in the end you have to use sMerit on posts that deserve it.

There is nothing wrong with this, if a beginner can post quality things. It must be normal to send merit.

To get a lot of merits you just need to double your efforts on the start I do not have enough capability to gain merits too but having double my effort to give good feedback, giving a good quality post and other supporting statements that help other users I gained merits, also merits are only given to the people who really excel an effort to the topic or the thread. Hmm, maybe if you give your friend a merit, given that he really deserve it (by making quality/helpful post), then there's no problem at all. Making it twice or thrice? I think that's still okay. However, if you repeat the act over and over again like a mutualism relationship then it's wrong already.

How to prevent? It's up to you whether you abuse it or not. You can freely commit but make sure you are ready to face the consequences huh . So do not attempt to do it at all or else your accounts will get in trouble. Even how hard you try to alibi, both of you are abusers in the eyes of veterans here especially if you are just a mediocre poster.

You dont need to relax with habits that keep you in the same position for years. Although to get knowledge we must start gradually, but if it is not based on intention and willingness then you will never get what you want to achieve.

Maintaining habits that make you unable to get up and cant expose your potential will only make it more difficult for you to reach your targets. To become a user who has a contribution here you only need to improve the quality of posts that are not considered low quality posts and even  shit post.

You have received a total of 542 merit. This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have 60 sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.

Above is mine, yours is different in figures but as you see (in red), the forum (admin) reserves the right to decay unused smerit in the future. But for now, there is no implementation of such smerit decay.

No due date as for now. However there's a probability they would decay in the future.

Do you mean merit abusing? Well if that's what ypu mean then feel free to report it because that's our obligation as one of obedient members here. Just make sure you can prove the accusation reasonably . We should only have one reason every time we give merit, and that's quality. Though each one of us got different definition for that word but the bottom line is that we should only give those who deserve it .
