Theymos and April fools, 2020 preempt

Theymos will send MPs to "reputable" members, as well as to "controversial" members to ask them if they want to be moderator, but the next day he will send another MP saying he made a mistake.

I'm told he's already done that April fool's :

Late in the day on March 31, create a thread from theymos_away saying that he needs April fools pranks quickly. After a random interval between 30 and 600 seconds, any post written in the thread will be deleted and once their post is deleted AND they have viewed a new page, they are banned for 10 minutes, reason: “especially bad post in April fools day thread”. If they try to post in the thread a second time, their post will again get deleted and will be banned a second time, this time for reason: “ban evasion” with the ban time doubled.

The only exception to having your post in the thread deleted would be if you have posted at least 1000 posts with receiving zero merit, or posting at least 2000 posts and as of a snapshot before the thread is created, have received no more than 1 merit per 1000 posts they have posted.

After a few hours, the thread can be bumped with a message saying that most suggestions were not very good and that more suggestions are needed.

Completely agree with you. I forgot that April Fools day will after few weeks, so, theymos prank would fun surprise for me. But when everyone is talking about it, it's not that fan. Now I know that when I will visit Bitcointalk on April 1st, first question in my mind will be "what did theymos made for this year April fools day?" and I won't be fooled.

Giving mods a day off means they have to find "25th hour" in next few days to fix the disaster made on forum during their rest
Imho, the best solution for a "day off for mods" is to disable post button for a day, but to warn about it long before.

At least for the past two years on the forum , I have witnessed that Theymos has come up with different mind blowing gimmicks for the April fools day

They're often staff-suggested ones or at least staff suggest additions. I'm still hoping the one I've been suggesting for years gets done  . It's simple but effective and I know it will get a lot of people even if it's only brief. I'm not going to say what it is but maybe if it doesn't get done this year I will.

We can take a day off whenever we want, though I wouldn't say no to paid holiday and sick leave  (though I think that's one of the reasons why we technically aren't employees so they don't have to offer that and I also can't sue theymos for the sexual harassment he keeps sending me via PMs  ).

I have heard that he will disable signatures for few days and he will tell everyone that this will remain permanently.

That has been suggested in the past along with announcing that signature campaigns are now banned.

He could announce that the new forum is ready, create a table, and request users to enter their usernames and passwords for easier database merging.
After that we just sit back and watch what happens.

I believe that when we're already talking about this, theymos may decide not to play any prank on 1st April and would rather decide some other date to do so, just to let users think that he's serious but it'd come out to be an April fool later on. I think he'll just disable PM feature so not to let some user give a death threat to another famous entity.

I'm sure he, Theymos knows better not to play "heavy" prank on a day that is not known as April fools day. I think April fools day have already been known worldwide and pranks played on the day before 12pm or at most, 12pm is allowed incase anything goes wrong with the receiver of such message. I think the court has taken judicial notice of April 1 and time limitation/bound for it,  I think so though.

Who has even researched on the history of April 1 called as April fools day. I hope users can do that....

We already saw KYC thing happen last year.. I don't know how far it can go from that point up. Maybe recognize Craig Steven Wright as the real Satoshi..(hope not), temp ban everyone for spamming or just put captcha on every post.

Maybe theymos decides to take an educational approach. He could create a Bitcointalk phishing site and redirect traffic to it to see how many users pay attention to what they are doing. It would be interesting to see that stats for such a thing.

However, I got freaked out when he introduced something like classification to every account that seem to speak on the personality of owners and I think, that also threw the forum into much worry until it was unraveled as April fools.
I'm sure that with this thread, users will be ready for this April 1. This is a nice reminder

Why would that be amusing? Kicking scammers out of the trust system is not as ironic as many in meta would have you believe.

It is far more of a troll to allow scammers and their supporters to run the trust system and brand whistle blowers as scammers.

I think theymos should remove the trust exclusion from a huge scammer, extortionist, dangerous greedy escrow, trust abuser wink wink ?..Oh damn, that was valentine's day. I'll try to think of something nearly as hilarious.
