Ledger Live Manager Version 2.0 is Now Available

For those who use Ledger Live in combination with Ledger Nano S/X, good news from Ledger, they release Ledger Live Manager Version 2.0. While these are not revolutionary improvements, they still bring a much better user experience, which of course will depend on each user individually.

• The first of the new features is that Ledger Live will show from now on all apps you have installed on your device, and it will also inform you about outdated apps.
• Second feature is auto-update which will allow that apps can be updated just by clicking on one button. It can save a lot of time, and it will automaticaly check for dependent apps.
• Furthermore, Ledger is added option to see how much free storage is on device, and option to see how much space is each app taking. Definitely something that can help users when it comes to limited storage on the Nano S.
• Last feature is kind of help with adding coins on Ledger Live, and this option will give you extra help for coins that can not be directly managed in Ledger Live in a way of providing link to solution how to use that coin/token.

Some users on Reddit report problems after this update, but this is nothing new when it comes to Ledger Live. My solution in the past was to completely remove the old version before installing a new one, which included deleting all the files, which again is not something that is a user friendly solution.

See which apps are installed, show how much space each app is taking up, make it easier to install and uninstall apps, links for altcoins which are not supported...

So, this update is entirely targeted towards useless altcoins, while they still don't have proper UTXO/coin control or address management for bitcoin. Pretty disappointing really. I'll stick with Electrum.

I made a transaction soon after the new version was released. The update worked just fine, no issues there.

I also noticed a change when creating a new receiving address. I guess they didn't think this part through that well.
In previous versions, when you were checking that the address on Ledger Live matches the one displayed on your hardware device, and after you clicked on the two buttons on your device to verify the address, the window showing the address in the Ledger Live app wouldn't close. Now it does and it makes no sense because it is impossible to copy the address from Ledger Live because it disappears. You have to copy the address from the app before you confirm it on the hardware device and not after. This will probably be changed in the future.

I got message about it to my email few days ago. I haven't updated my Ledger Live yet, but I'm planning to do it soon. Showing available storage and how much each app is taking is new feature that I like most. It's useful thing. For me other new features and improvements isn't something exciting.

People complain a lot after this latest Ledger Live update, and I don't see any major change.
I expected to see more, not just 'hide balance' eye :/

They said it should fix the problem though. Seems like Ubuntu/Linux users that got the errors were able to run it perfectly after the 2.1 updates. It is weird that the Windows version still broke.

I didn't get any newsletter. I don't remember ever signing up for one but I did receive similar type of emails in the past. For example the Valentines Day promotion. 
Any luck getting rid of the error? Try the obvious thing first. Uninstall Ledger Live completely and remove all traces of it and then download and install the newest version.

As I've written before, those advanced users always expect more, but it may not be realistic to expect Ledger to add some of the options that are available in Electrum. I think they are still aiming for simplicity as much as possible, and "UTXO/coin control or address management for bitcoin" is something they do not find necessary, or they may have a technical problem implementing it.

Unfortunately, some users report problems after updating to version 2.0, which in my opinion has something with particular operating systems and possible conflicts with other software. I already wrote in the OP that sometimes updating is not the best solution, but it would be advisable to uninstall and delete all files related to Ledger Live.

It is not so hard to implement Tor inside Ledger Live, and have more focus on privacy,
but I guess they like to focus more on altcoins...sadly

I wouldn't exactly call these features "advanced". Being able to choose which UTXOs/coins to spend from, and having control over different addresses, rather than your wallet just telling you which UTXOs/coins you are spending or which addresses you are receiving to, are pretty basic features, and I don't use any wallet which doesn't provide these functions. Further, Electrum is entirely free and developed by people for no payment in their free time. Ledger on the other hand have entire teams of salaried employees and a company worth of hundreds of millions of dollars. It don't think it's unrealistic to expect basic coin control functions for bitcoin, when they seem to be able to have the resources to continually add support for useless altcoins that barely anyone cares about.

I cannot say why they are not implementing these features, but there are probably reasons why this is not their primary goal. If this is not something that is technically difficult to perform, it may be a problem that not enough users are searching for these features. The reason their focus on altcoins is probably that most users still prefer cheap coins, and Ledger is developing its software in that direction.

Anyone who is dissatisfied with the current software can suggest the changes publicly on their Reddit/Twitter, or contact them privately. I will personally send them an inquiry about UTXO/coin control, and if more people do the same there may be some results in the following versions.

I deleted the software using Revo Uninstaller, then downloaded Ledger live but still, the same problem appears and I saw the version was 2.0.0
I have been in AppData>Roaming and deleted the folder Ledger Live, downloaded again, it doesn't work and get the same message.
I noticed on the website I downloaded the 2.0.0 version they didn't update it with the 2.0.1 version

LeGaulois, it looks like something in your OS is causing this problem, but they claim that version 2.0.1 is fix that. Maybe you should try to download 2.0.1 from Ledger GitHub, and if it still not working for you, option you have is to try update your OS or to download older version.

You're probably right, this is what I tried yesterday and today. And besides trying on another machine I don't know where to look at. I don't know what can be wrong with my OS

- checking for a Microsoft update, one was available and installed it.
- deleted the LedgerLive folder from Appdata>Roaming
- installed the soft.

today:
- deleted the Ledger Live folder from Appdata>Roaming
- downloaded the 2.0.1 version from github.com

(but this time was showing correctly as the 2.0.1v)

At this moment, when I click to close the program, I'm unable to open it again (like if the software continues to work in the background) I have to delete it and give another try by installing it.
When I click the 'reset' button nothing happen, when I click 'restart' I don't remember

You can try to create new account on your operating system.
Log in there and try to install Ledger Live again.
It should work.
If not, maybe you should update your OS.

LeGaulois, according to what can be read, the problem you have is something that happens to a large number of users (Linux & Windows 10). A temporary solution is to install the latest version that worked : https://github.com/LedgerHQ/ledger-live-desktop/releases/tag/v1.20.0

The problem was reportedly detected, and is likely to be corrected in the next version for Windows users.

The source of the issue on Linux has been pin-pointed and a fix is on the way.

On Windows, the investigation is still ongoing but we found a bug which most probably is causing the crash, we're testing a fix right now to confirm.
