I propose to close the "Politics" section

1) DOES NOT have anything to do with cryptocurrencies !!!
2) In this section there is nothing but mutual insults and reproaches
3) inciting ethnic hatred
4) This provokes conflicts between users who (conflicts) are then transferred to other sections of the forum (personal enmity)
5) Messages and topics, except insults, obscene expressions and all kinds of fake news and speculation, make no sense
6) Messages and topics violate the current legislation of many countries
7) etc., the list goes on and on

Or, as an option, move the "politics" section to "Off Topic" so that it doesn't appear at all.

Also, messages in the "Off topic" section should not be taken into account when counting posts (activity).

The fact you don't like it doesn't mean it has to be removed. This is a forum and people simply cannot talk only about crypto. Or should they find another forum for the rest of discussions?!?
And you pinpointed the solution for you. You can simply ignore it. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=ignoreBoards  (don't forget to press "change profile" to apply your changes)

Putting that board in your ignore list is the best option for you because I don't believe your suggestion will be accepted by the forum's admins and the community.

I quoted only your first point to prove your foundation idea for the suggestion is not right.

All things in the world related and correlated to politics at different levels. Sports where people usually say are neither controlled nor affected by politics actually have with the recent example from bans on Russia and Olympics.

Crypto currency is obviously controlled and regulated by governments in the last 2 years. AMLD, KYCs, and so forth, all of them are related to politics, locally.

Everybody wants the slice of the Satoshi pie. But then, will authorities be able to trace a transaction if the recipient (or the hacker, say from an account hack case) is using an unknown address?

If it wasn't for those deposit/ withdrawal limitations, I'd have ignored KYC altogether if I could.

It is impossible to find out who owns an unknown address. But as soon as you start making transactions, problems will start. If the sum of money is very large, then you will be hunted

There is an option to ignore or don't visit the section at all, why are you so concern, some people are posting interesting stuff and although there are debates it's part of a healthy discussion, Cryptocurrency also has something to do with politics, because these politicians are the one who makes the rule about Cryptocurrency in their country.

I propose to close the "Politics" section
Opposed!

Quote
1) DOES NOT have anything to do with cryptocurrencies !!!
Politics will only become more involved in cryptocurrencies. And although I barely use that board, part of the vision that comes with cryptocurrencies has to do with freedom. And freedom has everything to do with politics.

Quote
2) In this section there is nothing but mutual insults and reproaches
Great! Enjoy that freedom!

Quote
3) inciting ethnic hatred
Again: enjoy the rare freedoms this forum offers! Barely any website allows people to speak their mind, and you don't have to agree with them to understand the dangers of thought control.

Quote
4) This provokes conflicts between users who (conflicts) are then transferred to other sections of the forum (personal enmity)
You can't have freedoms without others having the freedom to oppose your views.

Quote
5) Messages and topics, except insults, obscene expressions and all kinds of fake news and speculation, make no sense
You too are entitled to your opinion. Do as I do: don't read it if you don't enjoy reading it.

Quote
6) Messages and topics violate the current legislation of many countries
So.forking.what? If your country doesn't like what's being posted on the internet, they're free to disconnect themselves, or build a Great Firewall or whatever they feel will protect their citizens politicians and their power.

Quote
Also, messages in the "Off topic" section should not be taken into account when counting posts (activity).
That's been discussed before, and the only result will be that Activity spammers go spam other boards. No thanks, keep them there!

I definitely don't think the P&S section ought to be scrapped.  A lot of discussion forums have something similar, and for good reason--if sections for politics and off-topic discussions didn't exist, those would be found in the regular sections where they don't belong.  In other words, people are going to talk about politics and all sorts of other stuff regardless, so it's better that there are dedicated sections for that.

3) inciting ethnic hatred
I don't know about that, since I have P&S on ignore, but I'm pretty sure that section often gets heated.  But what kind of ethnic hatred are you talking about exactly?  Do you have any examples?  In any case, I'm for freedom of speech even if it's offensive.  As soon as Theymos starts making judgement calls as to what can be said, this forum will start to suck.

1) DOES NOT have anything to do with cryptocurrencies !!!

This couldn't be more wrong.  Politics influence financial markets, they always have and always will.

2) In this section there is nothing but mutual insults and reproaches

If you can't engage in a political discussion without taking things personally, don't read the political section.

3) inciting ethnic hatred

Ethnic hatred will continue to exist with or without Bitcointalk.org's Political sections.  If hatred is to cease, discussion of our differences will be the catalyst.

4) This provokes conflicts between users who (conflicts) are then transferred to other sections of the forum (personal enmity)

That may be true, but that's freedom for you.  Sometimes people say things you like, and other time they say things you don't like.

5) Messages and topics, except insults, obscene expressions and all kinds of fake news and speculation, make no sense

This forum values freedom of speech.  I've participated in many forums over the years and never experienced the freedom that is present here.

6) Messages and topics violate the current legislation of many countries

Sorry, not sorry.

7) etc., the list goes on and on

You are free to ignore the whole section.

Or, as an option, move the "politics" section to "Off Topic" so that it doesn't appear at all.

But it isn't off topic.

Also, messages in the "Off topic" section should not be taken into account when counting posts (activity).

It sounds like you should start your own forum, where you can be a dictator.

This.  It's a relief that all the disgustingly intolerant bigotry is quarantined in one easily-ignored corner of the board.  The last thing I'd want to see is for that shit-slurry to come pouring out over the other parts of the forums that I actually want to read.

Even if nothing to do with crypto but doesn't mean it is a useless board. Look at the statistics on the board, there are already 14272 topics and 459982 posts. It indicates people need that place (board). You must know that politics is something interesting and discussed by people every day. So, it is necessary to have.

"Politics doesn't have anything to do with crypro currencies" - What an extraordinary statement. Politics are the reason crypto was created in the first place. It is becoming more significant as well, Maybe there could be a shift in the emphasis of moderation, but it is more likely that there is a shortage of good thread starters.

Actually, politics has a lot to do with cryptocurrency. With many states, countries, lawmakers, laws, individuals, businesses, practices, and even cultures affected by cryptocurrency, political discourse is a necessary topic. Just because you don't agree with the subforum doesn't mean it should be removed.

Certain countries' laws are broken by political discourse? Step 1. Get a VPN. Step 2. Try to find a new country or make a change in your country. You should never be harassed, silenced, or suffer rebuke for actively stating your opinion, position, or stance on a subject. You see, this is what makes America the greatest country on Earth. Freedom of speech, the ability for anyone to be the press, the right to protest and petition government, and your right to practice any religion of your choice.

As long as you are not calling for violence, or making a threatening disturbance, you can express whatever feelings, position, or opinion you would like.

If you don't agree with the board, don't view it. That's the greatest freedom you have on the internet, to view, or not to view; to post, or not to post; to make new content, or make no content at all. No one is forcing you to view the political board on bitcointalk. You have 100% free will to never visit that subforum again if you so choose.

Perhaps the forum should add a board "Religion" and we will start an interesting discussion. Many Internet preachers will come here to share their thoughts and may be interested in cryptocurrency

You can simply ignore it.
Putting that board in your ignore list is the best option for you
There is an option to ignore
You are free to ignore the whole section.

and so on.... Grin

I think the OP is way ahead of you since actually he hasn't posted even once in the P&S section!
Which brings up a really interesting question, why does he even care about it then?

Using google translate from a post on the Russian board, (I don't know if this is accurate so If it's wrong I will delete this part) you've said:

Quote
I’m very interested in politics, I just don’t really want to discuss politics on the cryptocurrency forum.

Wait, you're against dictatorship but you want to decide what people want to discuss?
You have some serious f up view on things!

LoyceV & DireWolfM14 have already given you answers to your points one by one and I think the majority of the posters here wich echo their opinion, nothing more to add there, you'll just have to deal with it!

You are absolutely right. I'm interested in politics. But a cryptocurrency forum is not a place to discuss politics.
In the "Russian local". In the politics section (and other sections) there are constantly disagreements between Russians and Ukrainians (we, Ukrainians and Russians communicate in one section and in Russian).
The reason I am not writing (I try not to write) is in the politics section. This is what I do not want to spoil the relationship with anyone because of political disagreements.

@theymos will lose one of his favorite sections.
All the points you mentioned do not give real reasons for closing that section, so I don't think the admin will take any decision in this regard.

Also, messages in the "Off topic" section should not be taken into account when counting posts (activity).

This is a good point in your post, but I think many campaigns do not pay in that section, so there is no reason to "spam there", but I agree with you not to count the posts in the activity.

In the Russian board any dispute spoil the relationship between users. The best strategy is not to dispute with other users Smiley

Follow this link, ignore the board you don't want to see again, problem solved.

I am ignoring like %80 of the forum. (Almost all locals, off-topics and some others)
