Folks,

I have some new products to offer at http://www.bobsbitcoinsupply.com, Gridseed power packs!  You can power 10 Gridseeds in scrypt-only mode, as well as your Pi and a 12v USB hub with my power pack!  16 or 20AWG wire used for your fire safety!  $40.00 for the pack!  I've seen much higher prices elsewhere, and they were only for powering the Gridseeds!  You can use your own ATX PSU!  Finally, only one power cable coming out of our rigs!  Currently accepting pre-orders, with an ETA of 03/31 from the manufacturer.  As always, free shipping!  First come, first served!  Initial quantities limited to gauge interest! (50 power packs @ 10 Gridseeds each for a total of 500 Gridseeds!)  Demand will dictate further orders.  PayPal & BTC accepted!  Let me know if you have any questions!

I was hoping Cablez would come through for us for our needs for Gridseed power connectors, but given that is not going to happen, I would like to offer my services.  I have prepared with a supplier for all of the cables necessary to power a USB hub, a Pi/controller, and 12 Gridseeds in scrypt-mode using 1 6-pin PCIe and 2 molex connectors all on a regular ATX power supply.  I am calling it the Gridseed Power Pack, and I am selling it for $40 on my website at:

http://www.bobsbitcoinsupply.com

The cables will be here in a week and I will begin shipments immediately (free USPS Priority Mail).  First ordered, First shipped!  I am accepting payments by PayPal through the website, and BTC through PM.

Direct link to the Power Pack: http://www.bobsbitcoinsupply.com/Gridseed-Scrypt-Power-Pack-for-10-Gridseeds-GS-SPP.htm

I am sure we can work out better pricing if you have larger needs.

In the store you can buy the cables separately, but the power pack will save $5.  I do also list AWG for each of the wires, and based on my calculations will handle the scrypt-only current we plan to run through them.  Let me know if you have any questions.  I hope I can serve you well.  Thank You!

When you say 4, for which cable do you mean?  The PCIe?

I'm in NY.  Remember though, these won't be in until 03/31.  I would have to check with my supplier on what you are proposing.  Sounds like you need to power 20 gridseeds.  Why not 2 PCIe cables and 5 breakouts?  I will be using these myself in my 2u rackmount cases, Norco RPC-270s.  What is your planned setup?

Fantastic! Well done sir! I will definitely be buying from you - the cables look great.

I bought my units from Lightning Asic (Jack) as did many others - he is supplying a 12V/5A USB hub as below

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.41.uT8FNv&id=27212396259

(use chrome browser to auto translate it)

Just help me out and make sure I'm not being an idiot - I need to power:

3x RasPi (micro USB 5V)
6x USB hubs as above (12V/5A as above)
60x Gridseed units (Scrypt only!)

I would like to run these all from one ATX PSU, but i think i am going to run out of PCIe cables. A couple of questions:

Will the 12V/5A USB hubs run off the same PCIE to 3 barrel plug cables? Or should i use the molex adapters? How many hubs per molex?
How do you feel about those twin molex to PCIE adapters that are bundled with GPUS? Will those be ok to run the USB hubs?

My idea is:

One PSU with:

5x PCIe to 3 barrel cables, each with barrel with a breakout connector (total of 60 plugs for the gridseeds - Scrypt only of course!) These plugged into dedicated PCIe ports

3 x Molex to 5V micro USB to power the RasPi's - these coming off ONE cable

3 x Molex to 2 barrel-plug , each barrel-plug powering a 12V/5A USB hub (from link above)

Another variable to consider are the 8pin PCIe -> 2x (6+2pin) PCIe cables that you also sell.

Please let me know what you think. I'm open to your suggestions and hopeful that i can power this all off one PSU. Thanks again for your efforts.

Wasubii,

I am glad I will be able to help you.  My molex cables are also 12V, as that is what the Gridseeds take, so there should not be any compatibility issues as long as the connector is right (2.1mm barrel).  One PCIe cable will power up to 12 Gridseeds with my breakout cables, so if you have 5 PCIe cables on your PSU you will be fine.  You can run your hubs on either the PCIe or Molex.  In talking to CableZ, the one comment he has made to me about the twin molex to PCIe is that each of the molex be from a different run from the PSU.  If you do that, you should be fine.  The other option is, as you say, the 8-pin PCIe to 2x 6-pin splitters.  As you see on the site I also list the wire gauge of each of my cables so people know that what they buy from me will be able to handle their load.

It sounds like you need:
3 power packs
2 PCIe cables
6 breakout cables

The molex cable is 18AWG which can handle up to 16 amps in short runs (1.5'), so you could power 2 hubs with each of them, but not likely on the same run from the PSU.  I do have some SATA -> Molex I could throw in so you could use SATA runs as well (just a thought, no charge).

Thanks,
   Bob

Will your cables work with this 10 port USB hub?

Looks like it should.  I would just need to know if it takes 5v or 12v.  By default the cables are 12v but can be easily modified for 5v.

Mr BobC,

Looking forward to receiving the cables.

Everyone - ordered 10 - 10 packs for a 100 GridSeeds in Scrypt mode, see how these work out!

Just wondering what kind of power supply/s you would be needing to power 50 to 100 gridseeds and 4 raspberryPIs and 6 usb hubs

Just wondering what kind of power supply/s you would be needing to power 50 to 100 gridseeds and 4 raspberryPIs and 6 usb hubs
Probably 1200W or so with 6 PCIe cables.

You could power 3 USB hubs on one molex chain.  4 Pi on another SATA or Molex.  Can easily power 12 GS per 6-pin PCIe, so if you had 4 of those, and power another 2 off of molex you'd hit 50.  50GS @ 8W @ 12V = .67a each * 50 = 33 amps, shouldn't be hard to find that in a PS.  That would do 50 GS, 3 Hubs, and 2 pi, so two of those.  Definitely 500W to be safe, but I don't think there are too many 500W with 4 PCIe runs.  A Seasonic 1250W Gold would do all 100 in Scrypt-only mode, for sure, it has over 100 amps and 8 PCIe.
