Using Tor.  Is the site still down as the page says?

Visited about a week ago and since haven't been back on.

Clueless.

The site moved to a new onion address and is currently (at time of posting) logging this message: [Notice] Closing stream for '[scrubbed].onion': hidden service is unavailable (try again later)..

Too many phishing sites that were posing as the Silk Road. The new URL is a bit easier to identify.

Interesting message at what appears to be the login page of Silk Road re: The Hidden Wiki

Before you login, make sure you came here from a trusted link and are at the official Silk Road .onion url and not some password phishing clone. If you suspect you have ever logged in through a phishing site (especially the hidden wiki), you should change your password asap.

The Hidden Wiki has been much abused by hijackers.

Hey Luke Jr...

you should embed the address for Silk Road into the block chain =) like your Catholic prayers.

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable.  I never believe them.  If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins.  I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion.  Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice.  Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

Instead of bookmarking the new address as they advise you to do, I think it would be more secure to keep your Tor bookmarks in a text file that's encrypted with a GPG client. Much safer, especially if you don't want anyone knowing which sites you visit.

Silk Road's address is available from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silk_Road_(marketplace)

However, please note:
Be cautious using a wiki as a source for a link. A wiki is a resource anyone can edit, and anyone does edit.  Wikis are frequently edited to lead to phishing sites. Silk Road is a popular target for this.
