Mass emailing to all users about the accounts recovery procedure

Bitcointalk has been hacked three times over the past 10 years and, in addition to that, profiles are often become the target of different cheaters.

In December 2018 the new recovery procedure of accounts has appeared on the forum, but I'm sure that many users don't aware about this function, because it is necessary to keep reminding about it (examples: 1, 2, 3).

So I believe that for secure and develop of the community, Bitcointalk administration need to send an one-time mass emailing to all addresses, registered in the forum database, with notifications that profiles can be restored if they were hacked, and add the link to the topic "Recovering hacked/lost accounts".

I see this way to be possible, so instead of just logging in with the security provided by captcha's  we could have our accounts even more secured if we need to verify ourselves through our email registered. In this way, even if our password got hacked, we have a way to recover it without administrator's intervention. It could be purely automatic. I think the admin might just need to add this feature to automatically email account holders to verify their account through their emails.

I think this is a bad idea   We have a process to regain an account, it's best, anyone participating in this forum is obliged to learn about it before using, it is obligated. You must protect your account with your own knowledge, if someone says that I cannot take it back because I don't know where to do it, it is their fault. In fact, there are many hacked accounts, but those people never care about the security of their accounts. So what makes us worry about others? Their obligation is best secure their accounts, administrators only support them to regain accounts.

The suggestion makes sense for some cases, for the others it does not.

People who already abandoned the forum, for years, have likelihood to abandon their emails that were used to register their accounts on the forum too. Or even if they still use those emails, they likely no longer have interests with the forum, and don't care about their accounts' details, and status (hacked, lost, password forgot, etc.)

The forum has 2765915 users as of writing time, and some of them use fake / unreal emails; or changed their original emails.

So, my question will be:
Which type of emails will be chosen?
- The current actively used emails
- The original emails
- Only real emails, exclude fake/unreal emails.

In my opinion, a lot of Bitcointalk users after hacking believe that they have lost their profiles forever and give up.
But if we will not responding to such people and leave this situation as it is, then more and more hackers, cheaters and account traders will increasingly replace normal posters which accidentally lost their profiles.
Therefore, I think it is necessary that all interested persons at least know that their accounts can be restored.

Instead of mass emails, Bitcointalk admins could set a reminder in the forum News line.
Then I suppose much more people with hacked profiles would know that there is a way to restore their accounts.

I simply believe, whoever encourage to stay on forum they will return even hack their main account. After hack if someone don't wanna back it does mean he isn't much more interested to forum. So if anyone interested from hacked account will found solutions when you will back to forum and read meta. Sending mass mail isn't very good idea, because those accounts haven't hacked they will also receive same mail and they might be confused.

It makes sense but maybe I got your ideas wrong initially. For active users, who have hacked accounts, I believe they know how to recover their accounts, by openning threads in Meta, and there will be so many legendary users will give them helpful advices with process to recover accounts.

I think staking a bitcoin address to be able to sign a message during hacks is the best and quicker method to recover accounts. And I recommend having email alerts, it help a lot

Because he hasn't spend time gaining knowledge here and probably after earning pennies here as he was told. All they do is create a new account and don't mind starting afresh.

Thank you, but I doubt that a lot of people are often clicking that button, because often have to say even to old users that forum has an accounts recovery procedure, therefore I think that such announcement should be more noticeable.

The suggestion is not bad and there is no reason not to support it. But, if someone has lost access to his Bicointalk account, and still wants it back, I think he would have found ways to visit the forum from time to time, and create an alt account to describe what happened. People used to do that even before the new recovery procedure was introduced. 

I am afraid that those who left have no desires to come back, whatever their reasons. An email wouldn't change much in my opinion.

Although implicit in the recovery procedure, the core focus of awareness is better placed on the pre-requisites than on the recovery procedure itself. That is to say, the key point to stress is that account recoveries are currently tied, for the most, to having previously placed an unedited post (quoted helps to ensure that) on the forum with a BTC signed message (or the PGP alternative).

A onetime email will not really stress these pre-requisites enough, although there could be a reminder every x months, or better yet, have the reminder display on the user profile which everyone tends to look at every now and then.
