Gambling when abused is a disease and just like any other disease it's deadly. There's a spirit/force behind gambling which the zeal to keep winning or hopes of winning when you aren't are the driving force behind gamblers getting addicted to the act. When you engage in an activity for so long, it becomes a part of you and that's how getting addicted to gambling developes. Ones you gamble day in day out irrespective of you winning or losing, you automatically program your brain to see that activity as a part of you daily routine which it becomes difficult to stop.

To my understanding, getting addicted isn't an unconscious development as many presume it to be, as addiction isn't as a result of a one time involvement in an act be it drug or gambling addiction. It's a gradual process that takes time to become a part of the abuser and that's why to stop you'll have to undergo a gradual process too instead of just trying to force your way out of the addiction.

Well, we cannot judge those compulsive gamblers or those addicts on gambling because we are not in their shoes, or we cannot feel what they have feel when gambling. I like the line that you have said about "We have different story of life", by that line we cannot blame them of being addicted on gambling.

Winning in gambling makes them so used in gambling because of the money they can earn from it, especially those gambling sites or casino gambling that has so much prizes. Losing cannot stop them from playing because of hoping that they can turn back the money that they have lost.

There are so many reason why a person would get addicted to gambling.

We also have those who gamble to escape some problems.

Well said mate, there are some gamblers that consider the gambling as their way of earning money so they keep playing on it, some gamblers also see the gambling as fun and it makes them escape on their problem, there are times that they forget their problems if they are gambling.

Well said mate, gambling will become a threat for you if you get addicted on it, if you spend so much of your time gambling or if you are not doing more productive things compared to gambling, some compulsive gamblers forget their responsibility to their family and friends because they are only focused on gambling, they don't have care to anything unless the gambling.

There are so many ways for you to stop being addicted in gambling, but it all depends on a person if he or she really wants to change his or her lifestyle, they may use their family and friends to limit themselves from gambling, if you have strong relationship with your family, you won't mind gambling.

if a person is being lost in the gambling, he or she won't go home, he or she will do something to turn back the money that have lost, the worst thing that they may do when losing the game and don't have money anymore to bet, they will loan to their friends or to someone who is willing to give him or her money as loan.

There are many possible reasons why someone would try gambling and then get addicted to it: maybe they have problems in life they want to solve by earning money from it, or problems they want to escape by having fun and entertain themselves from gambling, but for me, most of all, I think most people  get into the gambling business from someone or a peer, engaged and somewhat adapted the addiction in it. Also, the effect of gambling differs from every people; some can control it, some cannot, that is why we should help someone who can't control this kind of addiction for their sake.

You will not become addicted if you are using your head, just like what OP said. He becomes realized and noticed that he become addicted to gambling, because of that awareness gamblers should always know the limit by their selves. If you will pursue gambling and treated this as your daily habit it will result in addiction.

I don't see that gambling should blame if people were addicted to it. It's us a gambler should know how to discipline and manage our selves from addictions.

I have two major responses to this your question that you seem to wonder why they are : one answer is to throw the question back to ask if there is something you have been addicted to in the past or present ? That is also the scenario with gambling.

Also particularly for gambling, it looks more of a retaliation. You lose and you want to have back what you have lost and further have a gain from it. This is how addiction starts , it is not usually deliberate.

Everyone has a different nature, point of view, and target (purpose) in gambling. For people who only want to have fun and don't think seriously about the rewards, I think they can have a lower chance to be addicted. But for people who target to win and always more desire once they get losses, I assume they can have a bigger chance to be addicted. I don't think that they will be able to find the right pattern to win because you still need to be lucky to win. So no matter how hard you try, your chances will not be too big to win. Maybe they need to stop for a while to break and get a fresh mindset, so maybe after that, they will have the chance to get the luck, or the luck will come to them. But don't expect the luck will come to you after you break because the luck will come in an unknown time.

Gambling is a form of recreational activity to have a good time for those people at the right ages. It can be a form of entertainment, pass time, outlet, and diversion for some people. However, most people get addicted to it. Some people tend to start off gambling for their personal satisfaction and to just have fun until they get caught up with it and can’t control it anymore. A cousin of mine gambled much more than he should have when he moved to a new country. He was stressed, bored, had no friends in the beginning. You can answer all of this once you become a regular gambler. It's difficult to explain or able to understand for a casual gambler or those people who just gambled a few times a month why other people become a gambling addict.

You need to experience what they experience for you to understand why they become addicted. It's not just about entertainment but winning big will leave a good mark on a gambler's mind that will haunt them for the rest of their gambling life.

And aside from that, you are correct at your last statement, they have different stories and backgrounds why they became like that and that varies per person.

Gamblers are unstoppable when they think that gambling is a source of money. They should change that mindset, instead treat gambling as a source of entertainment and contentment. Limiting the money can spend will make them more immune to stress and depression. I know it sounds cliche but that's the reality of gambling. If you don't know how to control yourself in betting your own money then you will encounter a lot of problem emotionally, mentally,financially, and socially. Well, because it is gambling. Ever know the phrase "path of least resistance"? Gambling is a path of least resistance for others since you can earn a lot of money in minutes just by betting into something. You are risking a lot of things and it will give you a good profit quickly or the opposite. Look at this, You win you want to keep playing thinking you might win more and if you lose you will also keep playing thinking you will , win back your money or breakeven maybe even walk away with profit, I guess this is were the saying of "the house always wins " comes from because they have everyone glued and how the road to addiction is drawn
