Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

First of all, welcome Smiley

Second, make sure the wallet you're using is trustable... Don't use online wallets or exchange wallets. As a matter of fact, if you're holding a small amount of BTC, i'd recommand downloading electrum from the official site and verifying the signature.
If you don't mind waiting a couple of days and using a couple hundred gigs of diskspace, bitcoin core is also a very nice wallet.
If you'll be holding a lot of btc, move to a hardware wallet, paper wallet or airgapped wallet.

Now we have that out of the way, back to your question: you buy btc from an exchange or P2P (peer to peer) with FIAT (USD, EUR, SEK,...). From this exchange, you withdraw the funds to your wallet.

There's a whole subforum about exchanges: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=223.160
P2P trades are usually done trough localbitcoins.

As a newbie, it's especially important to do your homework. You'll have to vet the wallet you're using and the exchange you're going to use to exchange fiat to BTC. Don't hesitate to ask help if you have troubles picking a wallet/exchange, and make sure you only take advice from people that know what they're talking about (there are alway people that are shilling for unknown exchanges, and scammers that try to push you to use their scammy wallets,... .So you'll have to review their trust feedback and rank before you even try to trust them.)

Almost all wallet have a button "Receive"
Then you will see your Public Address, which you should transfer your funds to.

As mocacinno said, be sure you are using a safe wallet. Which wallet are you using?

You can't actually put the money in the wallet you will need to buy Bitcoins first and save it to any trusted wallet.
There are many fake wallets out there that can steal your Bitcoin. So always use a wallet which is well-known. Just like other wallet mention above

Where do you live?

If you are living in India you will need to download the app called Zebpay where you can buy bitcoins.

Or use Coinbase where you can buy bitcoins you can check your location here https://www.coinbase.com/places if your country is supported.

After you bought Bitcoins you can now transfer them to any wallet mention above or if you are using Android phones check these apps below.

- Electrum wallet
- Coinomi wallet
- Mycelium wallet

The only important thing you should do when making a wallet from the apps always saves the seed backup it's a series of words and phrases. Write them on the piece of paper or save it somewhere safe where you can find them easy but privately. Because you can use a seed phrase to recover your wallet in the future once you want to open your wallet to another wallet or if your phone is stolen.

Since you are a newbie you will need to learn first how bitcoin works, and how to make a wallet check the links below for source of learning.

It's well said, these Bitcoin wallets are good for storing your Bitcoin for the long term but you cant use it to convert through your local currency (fiat) on that wallets. Just have quick research on google and find a LocalBitcoins wallet, or any trusted custodial wallet whereas you are not holding private key but it is always had fast transactions when you are converting your Bitcoin to fiat. But it is not recommended to store long term your Bitcoin in the custodial wallet.

Once you've got a satisfying answer. You may lock this thread, just scroll down and find below "lock topic".

I have some guides for newbies and you can spend your time to read them. It is worthy to spend your time to read helpful documents and begin with an empty wallet, then practice to backup your mnemonic seeds and recover it from seeds' backups.

Because you did not tell us your location that means we cannot suggest legit and easiest way to exchange fiat into your bitcoin wallet the best way is you can simply go to google search and type "where to buy bitcoin in my location" lots of useful results will display based on your nearest location or country just be careful and read reviews first before making transaction.

If you are living in India you will need to download the app called Zebpay where you can buy bitcoins.
After the banking ban of 2018, Zebpay moved on its headquarters to Singapore and completely closed down its INR trading pairs. Thereafter, Zebpay was functioning more or less like a crypto wallet for months and later on created their crypto to crypto trading exchange. Recently after the removal of banking ban by the Supreme Court, Zebpay has announced that they would be relaunching their services in India with INR deposits and withdrawals. Apart from that, there are far better exchanges like WazirX which has joined hands with Binance for the announcement of its IEO and integrating of INR in Binance. After the removal of ban, unocoin (one of the popular Indian exchanges) has started accepting INR deposits and withdrawals.

For quite some time I have been sticking onto lbc trades which seems to be promising for me to an extent. I would trade with people quite often and practicing P2P trades are faster while we are in need of btc. So, if we are in a need to buy btc in India we could opt for WazirX, Unocoin, CoinDCX and LBC. I have created a topic which lists most of the exchanges where we can buy bitcoins through INR : Bitcoin Resources - Consolidate List (India Specific)

I am not sure why you can't find the button " receive, load, cash in,deposit ", etc. Etc. It's already there you just have to take a good read and browse your wallet, for sure you'll find it there.

Finding these buttons doesn't means he would know how to get it. OP did not tell us which wallet he created so it's difficult to tell which way to get except you tell him to buy from an online wallet like Bitpay, Luno and others depending on his country.

I find it funny how OP made this post and then went offline since then. Either he's gotten his answers elsewhere or figured things out himself but what I know is that the answers under this topic is going to help other beginners.

The first thing you need to do is find a local digital wallet that supports cryptocurrency if you find one that's good. Why I am telling you this? because it is more convenient and the fees are less. The second option is to use wallets that support credits/debit cards Like Atomic wallet, Wirex and also binance exchange has that feature but watch the fees or the difference in price it might be a huge difference just like last time I check. You can also try https://paxful.com/ it is a peer to peer platform.

I am a bitcoin newbie and I have created a so-called wallet, but I can't seem to find any instructions on how to actually put money into it so I can make bitcoin payments. Can anyone clear this up for me, please?
The wallet you have created should give you a Bitcoin address. It looks like one of the following:
  • 1BvBMSEYstWetqTFn5Au4m4GFg7xJaNVN2
  • 3J98t1WpEZ73CNmQviecrnyiWrnqRhWNLy
  • bc1qar0srrr7xfkvy5l643lydnw9re59gtzzwf5mdq

Now you need to buy Bitcoin. You will be asked where to send the coins. You have to enter your newly created address (not the ones above, they're just an example) that the wallet created for you. You'll need to wait around an hour until the transaction is completely finished. That is it.

Hi there,

Depends on where you live, you can download an app wallet for your mobile, use https://coinatmradar.com to search for nearest ATM. Go there, and using mobile QR scan option, buy bitcoin. I'm sure there will be an easy step-by-step instruction at the place.

Also you can download coinbase app (this is an exchange), link your credit card to it, and using app, buy bitcoin (app will create bitcoin address/wallet automatically for you).

Welcome to this forum mate Cheesy
Actually, there are so many ways for us to put money in our bitcoin wallet, there are so many stores or establishments that accept bitcoin for cash in and cash out using fiat currency then all you need to do is just to convert it into bitcoin, so by that you can input money in your bitcoin wallet.

There are also some websites that we can use to make money, faucets, free mining, etc. This is also can be used to have bitcoin in your bitcoin wallet, just keep creating useful posts, posts that can help many member of this forum because aside of benefiting them by creating that kind of topic, you will also be benefited by that someday.

To make bitcoin payments, you will be needing a crypto wallet where you can store your bitcoins. Some of it is coinomi and binance. Create an account there, remember your password, and other account details. Then, deposit USD or any crypto to the wallet, you can convert it later to bitcoin so you can make the payment. After that, input he address where you will be sending the bitcoins, make sure that it is correct,  check it to be more assured.

it depends in your country, where there are company offers a online wallet, that you need to register, at the same time we have a localwallet which is in your PC application are installed.
i suggest you study first what your wallet familliarized everything before depositing any funds because once you made a mistake , it can't be recovered
and it will be lost, since you are just getting started, reading about it first will be a good move don't just throw funds in their yet,
