This thing with it's global lockdowns looks more and more like some sort of a contrived social experiment.  All kinds of interesting behavioral observations are popping up.

I would suggest that one of the most useful datapoints would be how manipulable entire leadership chains up to the national level when it comes to creating an implementing policy.  Can, through a combination of domestic pressure induced through extra-national social media giants and peer pressure from other national leaderships, a country's leadership be induced to follow a particular policy set and protocol?

This could be a relevant question to ask.  Under the recent monetary regime a very effective method of inducing policy was developed through 'loans' provided by the IMF, World Bank, etc.  It's unclear how much of this infrastructure can be overhauled for use under the coming monetary regime, and especially if the new one differs fundamentally from our current debt-backed one.

Let's post our current situation and real life experience about coronavirus and how it's affecting our life and our society.

other than my money continuously running out and feeling frustrated when seeing people go to crowded areas without any protection from the virus? yeah, it's almost still the same. also, this crisis just shows which politician cares about its people and doing something productive and ensuring that the people affected by the lockdown and the virus has a government to turn to. but the sad thing is there are still people taking advantage of this crisis and pushing their political agenda and creating a rift between the government and its people.

The situation with the Coronavirus has forced me to reconsider my views on the government of my country - Russia.

While in the USA the government allocates $1000 for each resident due to the crisis and the Coronavirus, in Russia the funds are allocated only for pensioners.

Each pensioner will be compensated in the amount of $50. Guys, this attitude towards pensioners of Russia is outrageous.

A couple of things to note.

Firstly this $1000 is borrowed money.  Borrowing money in a debt-based system increases money supply and the U.S. must do this in staggering quantity at this phase of the monetary system's lifecycle.  Counter-intuitively, it's not only 'good' but 'necessary' to pay inflated prices to buy uneeded stuff (e.g., weapons systems which may or may not work), or hand out money to the peeps.

The USD currently has the 'world reserve' status.  What is possible (and again, necessary) for the U.S. is not for any other country who have to supply real value in proportion to money their central bank creates.

As an aside, I now think that taxes are almost completely a mechanism to transfer wealth between members of the lower classes.  Taxes don't 'fund government' as is popularly imagined.  At least not at the federal level, and at the state level is where the individual transfers occur.  The Feds need to borrow USD at amounts that they cannot even keep up with just to keep the system afloat so there is no need whatsovever to take it from the taxed classes.

Secondly, the average American spends $1200/year on prescription meds.  The average American has $4700 in credit card debt.

Basically the relative pittance of $1000 will immediately get sucked right through the individual and transferred into the hands of Big Pharma, the banking system, etc.  Most of that will disappear into the shadow banking system requiring yet more borrowed money handouts.  (An aware observer might have the question:  'what is the collateral for all these loans?'  We may be fixen' ta find out.

I suspect that this is the end of the system might finally be upon us.  And I suspect that the current 'covid-19' was put up (and played up) to take the blame so the banksters don't have to.  I'm now thinking that the big kahuna will happen at the promised '2nd wave' of covid-19 where it will be possible to achieve certain other long-sought goals as well.  ID2020 for one.

Many of the local grocery stores near me are shutdown temporarily. Some of the workers at their stores have tested positive for corona (at least one confirmed for them to shutdown) and they're going to through the mandatory state issues procedures on sanitzing the stores. All this is doing is putting more stress on the supply chains of over stores and online grocery shopping, which isn't really able to keep up with the increased demand.

Schools are closed, everyone is 'learning online' - take that as you will. Older people are under pretty hefty restrictions to stay inside as much as possible, for their own good.

My local grocery store has limited customers to purchasing only 2 of any one item, so I find myself trying new brands and flavors of products like soup than I normally would.

When in a socialist central planned economy, not only do you have to get used to a limited purchase, you WILL lose the ability to "choose" product brands, and eventually certain things will only be available certain days or the week, or the month...

Been there, done that, for years...

Your problem for now is the virus, once its gone you will remember this and laugh it off. Doesn't happen like that when the State chooses what things must cost, because the market is "unfair". OUR Virus has lasted many years, even the young here don't even know what this "choosing brands" business is about, if there is a soap, ANY soap, praise the dear leader. Often, there is no soap, and you know when there is no toilet paper, you NEED soap.

But at least you people are getting a taste of it, hope you never forget it.

I live in NYC.

Cons:

Everything is closed except grocery, liquor and pharmacies.  Restaurants are allowed to do delivery/take out, but most of them just closed.  The smaller stores only let a couple people in at a time and you have to wear gloves (provided at the door).  Grocery stores have limited hours.  Other than chicken and toilet paper it's easy to get what I need.

Feel pretty trapped.  I've only left my (small) apartment for maybe a total of 4 hours in the past 11 days.

There's a bit of anxiety with the high number of cases around me.  When I do go out for walks or to get food I literally think about it the whole time.  I know my odds are good, but getting any kind of sick would really suck right now.  My girl friend, who I share a tiny apartment with, has asthma issues and I know she would get super stressed if either of us got sick.

Most stress comes from having several relatives who are very old, one just finished chemo (lives about 40 miles away), and one is in a nursing home.  They're all just super sad that pretty much all family visits, the thing they look forward to more than anything, have stopped, and we don't know for how long, it breaks my heart really.  The one in the nursing home is basically in prison.  She went from daily family visits and social activities like knitting club and puzzles and stuff to literally not allowed to leave her room.  Plus she fucked up her ipad somehow and can't get facetime to work.  I've spent hours trying to trouble shoot with her over the phone but it's a lost cause.

Pros:

Eating healthier since I can't go out.

Definitely one of the most productive times of my life.

Working from home I can accomplish in 3 hours what takes 9 when you factor in commute, bullshitting with co workers, pointless meetings.

Finally stopped putting it off and developed pretty solid self education routine (graphql, express and node), building some cool side projects and will likely have a better job soon.

I'm going to a sweet cabin on a big lake in the middle of nowhere next week for a while.  Still just me and my gf, but it's gonna be amazing to have all that space and breath fresh air.

Canada seems mostly untouched, which seems weird, since the cold weather keeps people indoors and close.  I haven't noticed any other changes when I go into Edmonton for supplies.

Realistically, you prob won't get sick unless you touch your face.  Which everyone does many times per minute on average.

When I go out, I'm very careful not to touch my face until I disinfect my hands.

I actually thought that Canada was under a similar -- order to stay home (Like NY, California, etc) -- but I guess that's not true. Though I have seen a few articles regarding the fact that your PM Trudeau wants increased powers in this time of an emergency.

I know you may not feel comfortable asking this, but are you in a rural area / small city environment where the coronavirus may not be felt yet -- as I know this is the case in parts of rural California and upstate (rural) New York.

I built my house just north of Edmonton, AB.  Edmonton is the 6th largest city in Canada, with about 1.2 million people.

Streets are empty, but grocery stores are still open (and fully stocked), and the only limitation is on toilet paper - 2 per family.  lol  Being in a winter city, I think people prob stock up a bit more on supplies.

~snip~

Reading various articles about helping citizens of different countries because of the economic crisis that was partly caused by the coronavirus, I am increasingly surprised at how the Russian government treats citizens. If in some countries payments on consumer and mortgage loans are fully expired and utility bills are cancelled, then we simply do not have such support.

I'm certainly not one to defend Russia or the current government of that country.  All I am saying is that at this time no country should be compared to the U.S. in matters concerning economic policy.

Maybe in a few years the United States will be on more equal ground with the rest of 'the nations' when it comes to monetary system flexibility.

In my country there's a major shortage in medical supplies and doctors are dying all around because the lack of PPE (Personal protective equipment) and some patients are not telling the truth about their travel history and health status. Also due to the Lockdown Jobs where temporarily suspended so we're a bit short in food and money. But can still survive through month though. Hope this ends quick, so we can go back with our daily lives.

Today I went to several pharmacies again to see if medical masks were available. The masks were not available in any of the five pharmacies.

After I reported that the government was not taking any action, I saw the speech of Russian President V.V. Putin - https://youtu.be/_hjouzv7PcA.

Here are some important news:

"Next week is declared non-working all over the country with preservation of wages. The only exception is the work of medical professionals, grocery stores and financial institutions.

Insurance premiums will be halved for salaries above the MRT: from 30% to 15%.

The introduction of a 13% tax on income from bank deposits and securities amounting to more than 1 million rubles.

Withdrawal of income to offshore jurisdictions will be taxed at 15%.

All allowances and benefits are automatically extended for 6 months.
Starting from April, all families, eligible for maternity capital, will be paid Br5 thousand per child.

Payment of the new allowance for children from 3 to 7 years will be accelerated and will start in June.

Until the end of the year there will be a single rate of payment for sick leave at the level of less than 1 minimum wage per month.

The banks will provide for vacations on consumer and mortgage loans, the possibility of prolongation and temporary suspension of debt service.

Enterprises from the most vulnerable sectors will be granted a six-month grace period on all taxes except VAT. Micro-entrepreneurs will also be granted a 6-month grace period on insurance contributions to social funds and a 6-month grace period on loans. There will be a moratorium on filing creditor applications for bankruptcy and debt and fine collection."

Here you are not allowed to go out for a reason that is not going to procure medicine of food, you should absolutely not "go out for walks" period. Exercise at home, however you can (follow exercise videos online etc).

It would be tremendously sad, that this plan of yours could be THE way you get infected. You should try to avoid getting out of your apartment/house at all costs. The danger is not just people, its places where people have been (it DOES help a lot to wear gloves, AND never touch your face before plenty of hand-washing with soap).

Your plan, would be sound if you payed attention when i was warning people here a month ago, but now it is too late, you are in the middle of a heavily infected city, it is almost sure you can get infected by going out at this point, so you should not (and avoid bringing it to her). If you can have your food/medicine delivered do that, and remember to handle the boxes with gloves.

DO NOT GO OUT. Isolation is no joke, this is what many western countries failed to realize in time.

As for your relatives, they have to isolate themselves, not get visits, not pay visits. Basically follow what i just told you to do.

Facetime is a bad app, try getting something not Apple centric, something you can use on any device not just Apple products.

The reason the virus spreads, is because people need to deny their social habits and needs. Isolation is not funny but a must to stop an incurable virus, even if you survive it, someone else that gets it from you might not. This is what you have to think as the reason to isolate yourself, to avoid spreading it to others.

Yeah that's probably the case, you guys are a bit more prepared to have to stock up for the winter. So it's not a mad dash for the supplies. Any cases in your city as well?

I'm in NY, which is like the epicenter in the US for coronavirus cases. I think it's hit a bit more close to home for people like us, as family members are dying/sick, friends of family are dying/sick, so it's a bit closer and we feel it more. Which is why people are freaking out (understandably) and are hoarding supplies. I know a few of the local grocery stores have even had to shut down for a few days (unsure how long) due to a worker or two testing positive for the coronavirus.

All that does is put more of a strain on the grocery stores that are left.

Coronavirus affect almost everyone's life, I'm not exception. Last week I had to go on vacation, because there was some supply issues caused by closed borders. But now I'm back to work. Now I forced to spend more time than I want at home. And it's difficult to sit at home when there is great spring weather outside. So, I still try to ride my bike in near forest - I choose this location to avoid meeting people. During quarantine I can't meet my friends, go to a dentist, restaurant, non-food stores. I don't even talk about going to cinema, concerts or sports events.
There is no lack of food in local shops now, but some people are buying it crazy like war soon would begin. And I feel really inconvenient when I go to shop without wearing mask.
