I just had a little look in the well known spam/shitposting part of the forum, aia Bitcoin Discussion. This is what I discovered on page 1 (There are currently, as I type this 8 threads on pate 1 with Corona Virus in the subject title) - Do we really need to keep allowing mindless threads about COVID-19? It gets even worse when you read all the shitposts inside the thread. Any chance we can merge them all & shove them in Politics & Society? - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=34.0They’re all boring & don’t provide any positives to actual Bitcoin Discussion.

Agreed with overall sentiment but Covid-19 affecting EVERY THING and people are very diverse due to their posting habit so its makes sense in some extent though. We can call it shit posting or whatever we want but no one can't do much about it atm.

No, sending them straight to trashcan would be better. P&S is already overrun with every virus topic imaginable plus the usual conspiratards working overtime derailing other threads.

Those are all indeed shit-threads, but they're mostly on topic. I don't know if there's really anything you can do about them. You can try reporting them, but I have a feeling they won't be deleted. What gets me is the seasoned members starting threads with a OP like the one below, when they could have just added that bit of useless information to the shit-tonne of other threads about Covid. This Israeli historian/philosopher figured out what the "endgame" of the "elite" will be this crisis: in short "mass surveillance"... Just imagine what that will mean for the BTC price... ETA: good to see you back off restriction, LFC.

This is how Politics & Society looks like. Can't we merge all these threads from Bitcoin Discussion and Politics & Society into three or four meaningful threads in the Politics & Society-Section? Even the Gambling-Section gets massively spammed with Covid-19 discussions, which mostly have nothing to do with Gambling itself or the threads posted there.

Or even create a temporary COVID-19 sub section & all the crap can go in there. I love bitcoin, it’s made my life. I’m very passionate about it & this forum. It’s upsetting to see all the crap spewed all over Bitcoin Discussion (which incidentally, is supposed to be the most important & informative part of this place).

The Covid19 is a major world issue right now affecting nearly every single person right now. I suspect that over half the world population is on some kind of lockdown or restrictions because of Covid19.
I think I would suspect many threads about this topic to appear both in P&S and elsewhere (that are correctly posted).
I do wish that more would be done to fight the misinformation about Covid19. Perhaps the forum could donate an ad spot to a link to an authoritative source about good information.

Lots of shitposts and shitthreads around it of course, but there are aspects of it that'll impact BTC in a big way so it can be a relevant subject. The economic moves that are happening feel like they've been written by Satoshi.
I'd move some to economics, bin plenty of course and the rest to politics and society.

99.9% Coronavirus trends every place where people involved, I don't think its a spamming as you all know this is just period which passes even if we don't know until when, but we can't ignore how different economy affected by the virus and those people try to look that in a different perspective if it affects Bitcoin or not the trends are not only in bitcointalk every news worldwide and forums, the trends are even in the heads of people and every class. Every time when some issue passes involve in economy mostly touch Crypto and those period topics about the issue prevail.
Many of you says shitpost yours at high Rank which means some your here for a long time which I believe you saw things like this. Although I agree with you it's too much saying About CoronaVirus

There are 14 topics in "Bitcoin discussion" 17 in "Economics" Pretty boring, it's so repetitive, worse than when the Merits system was added.
They're turning the boards to "Epidemiology discussions". While it can have relations with the worldwide economy etc I don't see the need to create endless numbers of topics with COVID-19, at least it's better to have only 1 topic about it and we can all discuss in. The forum is being COVIDed
Merge all topics in 1 or trash all the latest to keep 1... don't know

The reason is simple and obvious. Most of those people do not care about discussing the actual subject. It is merit farming and sig. campaign spam.

Fact) Most posts on bitcointalk are made to earn coin via signature campaigns.
So for the first time in all of our live's there is a true world wide issue. Just like BTC this virus does not give a fuck about borders.
And people in this thread want to ban postng on it.
No just ban signatures for the next 2 weeks.
The bullshit earn money for a signature posts go by by.
I for one have zero issues with the corona-v posts even the end of the world whack a doodle ones are fine by me.
I vote for a 2 week signature lock down.

Those topics should be moved to offtopic or trash. I also noticed several suspicious topics asking for crypto payments, miracle fake anti-virus herbs, apps with fake covid tracking, virus shitcoins... all junk

~snip~
I'm luckily not on that list but I feel my thread in P&S was called for at the time, I had a quick look and couldn't find anything similar on the front page and I wanted to inform and have a discussion.
EUROPE are facing huge problems with this virus at least, it's understandable to see the amounts of threads. I'd offer a suggestion to tackle this be that we have threads at the top of each section for coronavirus discussion, we could even link them all as pinned threads (for now) and have them all redirect to a topic in off topic or politics and society (and without sigs and avatars being shown). Everyone seems quite worried throughout the whole of western europe at least to the implications of this virus and its effect on daily lives with most firms being forced to close and compensated/lent resources interest free for the time they're shut. A lot of people are confused at to what they should be doing and want to try to vent in these times or find something even remotely productive for them to do. And for most threads that are deleted, there's going to be some angry mob on meta going "my post got deleted what can I do?" and if that's not more annoying than coronavirus discussion (which quite frankly I've ignored most of the other topics and can't really understand why you guys can't) then this really got out of hand fast... This isn't a normal circumstance, go away and come back in 2 weeks if it botheres you so much otherwise just leave people to try to rationalise what they want to.

the entire internet is being "spammed" with topics about Corona virus it is not just bitcointalk. every other forum you visit, you will see numerous topics about this subject. if it were any other way then it would have been understandable to single bitcointalk out. additionally when considering the fact that many believe the recent bitcoin price drop (which was huge) is related to Corona virus in one way or another, it is understandable to see so many people talking about it.

It's a global issues, it's everywhere because it's that serious. Even most of the intelligent peoples around the world would be most probably discussing about COVID-19 and it's impact. I don't find any other issues to be more risky for me, not even red tags, so loads of threads are acceptable IMO.

This is similar to our local section as it is becoming polluted with multiple Corona Virus threads that is being created once there is a big news locally and or internationally. I also can't blame these people who are trying to rationalize their opinion about Corona Virus because most of the people here are being affected globally. Here's a what our local section do.. One of the Filipino local member sent a message to our moderator to create a mega thread that tackles every issues and news about corona virus to decrease redundant topics that is being created. The goal here is to decrease similar threads but not necessarily prohibit of creating another thread. Or maybe after creating a Covid - 19 megathead, locking newly created similar threads would be very appropriate Also some of the threads are worth reading just to waste my time since I don't have anything else to do...and our country is currently in a lockdown.
