Has anyone tried this coronavirus app?

I came across this app by OpenMed from the Apple App Store and downloaded it on my iPhone:



I've tested this on my iPhone and seems reliable. However, I don't think a lot of countries and health establishments are using this yet.

I suspect that app is just gathering information. It asks for the DOB? What's the relation of that information about the detection of the virus? It can ask for the age but why be specific about the DOB? Does it requires you to enter full name?

Here's what I've found after entering some fake data (and with undo function):



It lets me choose if I go for insurance or self-pay.



The next question regarding "Search Your Doctor", it has a dropdown list of the names of doctors and their locations. Looks like that this app is targeting US patients.



After choosing the "Pay Now", it redirects me to this.



So they're using Google Pay as a payment processor for "Respiratory Pathogen Profile Testing".

Yes, they seem to ask your full name, date of birth, location, apartment number, etc., which is something that concerns me (our privacy and personal data).

There's a possibility that they might only collect our data, because this app is still new in the Apple App Store. I never submitted my real data there and proceed to pay for their Respiratory Pathogen Profile Testing package.

I might only believe when a legit source or media like Fox News, CNN, etc., is actually "trying the app" on the spot and doing the "Respiratory Pathogen Profile Testing" themselves.

The developer of this app may have the money to advertise on these big media sites, which is another concern for me. I don't know, but since the doctors listed on this app are all from the United States, I think this one is only applicable to US residents.

If the government endorses the app themselves, this might be a "bit of a safe haven".

Yes, they seem to ask your full name, date of birth, location, apartment number, etc., which is something that concerns me (our privacy and personal data).

The app isn't made to help but it's made to milk money from those people that can't help themselves but to search for something like this.
They will collect data and sell it somewhere. That is why I don't trust most apps on play store because they are taking advantage of the situation while the users are not aware that they collect data.

Well, it's just a survey. It can be made in a text format, where you can just check if you have the symptoms or not.
Looking at corona patients it looks like you will surely notice if you have it or not. Be healthy!

I would not do that if the apps if not come from my government because that is suspicious for me. I prefer to be careful to send any identification to another third party because I don't know if they are from the government or not. I am better to contact the hospital or some expert to know more information or give the data than to use the apps that I don't know if that is real or not.

There are so many such apps, and someone rightly said we dont know who is collecting what data. Misuse of  fear is common which is bad.

I guess they collect the Date of Birth to determine how vulnerable  carriers are. Not the right way to gather sensitive information though. So, before giving out your sensitive information, ask yourself "What if" the information is going to the wrong hands... no checks and balances to prevent them from misusing the information.

 Better to handle this in a decentralized manner... Some say "Decentralize everything"... I think I agree, and that should include, storage, market, developers, apps, governance, rule making, etc

I never sent my real details in their app, and I'll never gonna send payment to them. I'm only showing you guys some screenshots that I've taken with fake details. I believe that our data will officially be sent and stored to their database when we actually complete the checkout.

Unless a big media source like CNN says "BREAKING NEWS: WHO approves OpenMed's Coronavirus Checker for worldwide use!", that would come to a conclusion that it's legit. I would be surprised if it does for real.

No, they don't do that. Take time to read the follow-up post made by OP. The clarity of the agenda why the app was made is there. Nobody cares  about our birthday if it's plain information and doesn't have other related info of a person. They can easily create each day's birthday yearly.
