This thread is what technically started this whole board here on bitcointalk. I’ve posted this link before inside the “historical timeline” thread I made, but I wanted to point this out on its own for those who missed it. This thread not only has the first actual physical bitcoin, but it also shows who came up with the ideas of funded coins, hiding the private keys etc.

This also looks to be where Casascius likely got the idea for his coins.  Worth a read for sure.

Love all the forum history and love all the stuff you’ve researched@ChiBitCTy.
I’ve been doing a bit of research in these lockdown times and found a thread by the forum user - bitcoinex.

This user started a thread in December 4th 2010 titled - Idea : gold coins with bitcoin logo?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2074.msg26775#msg26775

It appears that this forum member is the first person on the forum to mention souvenir/ physical coins, as this predates the tcatm thread.

Anyway let me know what you think.

Unfortunately bitcoinex hasn’t been active since June 2017 - so no info to be gained there  Sad
