Hackers started to exploit Zoom apps to spread malware

We all know that due to Covid-19 outbreak, many are forced to work from home. So hackers started to exploit this, my registering a lot of fake Zoom domain, which is all malicious in attempt to trick individuals  into installing them, thus you are downloading malwares on your devices.

For those who are not aware of what Zoom is - it is a web based video conferencing app.

So again as I have said, with the advent of individuals working from home, they might fall for this kind of trick. such as downloading “zoom-us-zoom_##########.exe” and “microsoft-teams_V#mu#D_##########.exe” (# representing various digits).".



And installing those kind of files will lead you to InstallCore PUA which could lead to more malwares being installed on your system. And it can lead to steal your credentials including crypto related passwords.

Maps, apps, and fake zoom sites. Hackers tend to very well to adapt to the hottest trend right now.

In a word, I would like to say, please stop hunting for news related to COVID-19, stop hunting for apps on COVID-19, on tracking past transportational information of infected cases, stop being paranoid about it. If you can maintain your responses to the pandemic like that, you will not be a victim of hackers.

People fall into bad and hazardous apps because of their curiosity. Sometimes I feel that reading news (it is the same for trading) daily about the pandemic make me more paranoid. I don't do that but I have that feeling for the others who hunting for news daily.

Thanks for the share mate because we are now looking for apps that will be use for meetings and yeah Zoom is one of the advised Apps by co workers and i think this is the final one to use so having this thread i will share to the team so we can prevent our self from being a victim.

Schools started using Zoom for online classes and I expect that many parents (or kids) are not "experienced" enough and will fall into such traps and install malware

I used sometimes this Zoom app for business meetings online from a different client and how sad that this now the target of scammers. Probably this is a very well known site now because you can conduct a meeting or orientation through this app to have social distancing.
Scammers nowadays are always looking to find ways to fool people and fall into their trap. That's the reason sometimes when I need to download the app I always have research first before I decided to download.

This is the best time for the hackerd to make their actions to hack or steal money or account of yours, they are so professionals of doing such things, they have so many knowledge abouy technology, one of the example is about this thread which is the zoom app.

Actually I do not know  that zoom app,  it is new for me,  but based on what OP's says it is hackers way to hack so always be careful when installing a software or even clicking some advertisement. One of my prof shares an information about hackers action when stealing your money and your account, they can use some links and advertisement to do hacking, when you click the ads and you are using a computer or mobile phones, then there would be a spy on your computer which will be used by the hackers to have access on what you are doing on your computer.

I check their official twitter account here: https://twitter.com/zoom_us and it seems they are still not aware of. Though they have written Best Practices for Securing Your Virtual Classroom. This might end really bad, specially for unsuspecting victims.

This is a great information for me since im working at home and we are trying to use different application to collaborate our team and we are currently looking at zoom, but now it makes me think twice and review for other application that can be use aside from zoom, but hopeful that zoom team will find its way to fix or make security adjustments, since it will compromise a lot of work if this happens to them thank you for this

As an FYI that maybe should be added to the OP:

The first time you use Zoom, you will need to install it, and you can do so by manually going to zoom.com and downloading their software. Any subsequent zoom meeting you join, you will click on a link, and your browser will prompt you to open the link in zoom, but you will not download additional files.
