Is this A Misdirected Coin?

I got some bitcoins sent to my exchange wallet. Now, I'm wondering if this is not a mistake. How would I know that this is mine since I'm not expecting payment from someone. Ordinarily, I wouldn't have minded since I ask for donations on my scam review and news site. But this amount is way higher than what I have gotten before now. What would you do under this circumstance since there's no way of contacting the sender?

If the exchange you're using is actually legitimate, then I don't think there's something you should be worried of. Also, you said you asked for donations on a scam review. Why are you that surprised that someone sent you some coins? Maybe your review was just decent and a certain person liked it.

Also, it's probably unlikely that the coins were sent by accident, unless the person managed to copy your address instead of his/hers for some reason.

Depending if it's a legit exchange or not. If it's not a legit exchange, then it's a either you end up being told to deposit some certain amount of coin to be able to withdraw or some other conditions. I wouldn't advise you to do any.
And if it is a legit and reputable exchange, you should contact the support. You should preserve your dignity and not take things into hand because of anonymity.

If that is actually a misdirected Bitcoin it would actually be very rare since he would have to change a lot in the wallet address for it to go , so it would be like 1-2% chance of it going wrong , what you can do is wait for anyone to contact you before you do anything with it , have a 7 days period , they will soon contact their own wallet and the wallet company might contact you .

Other than that after 7 days , you can just assume it came from someone kind .

@OP, can you release the amount of coin that's been credited to your account or the order of it (i.e 0.1,0.01,0.001,.0001,.00001...

If it's just a tiny amount it might have been some dust someone was trying to use up or something or an accidental mistype.

What exchange is the address on, is it well known and well reviewed as the others have said? If it's not well reviewed it could be some sort of deposit scam.

This case it seems it will be very difficult to know how that excess coin got to your wallet but since you have pointed out that you made  comment about getting donation, maybe someone generously send the the bucks. Hopefully the exchange is not those clone exchange platform. You should have elaborate more by mentioning the name of the exchange

Assuming exchange is reputable. I'd check the address in block explorers just to make sure actual coins have gone thru, not just some numbers 'cause of a glitch.

Also thinking that this maybe is just a pov problem. Small to you may not be the same for them. It's easier to give when you have 10 apples as oppose to 1. and/or you have no idea how much those reviews helped them, maybe they dodged a bullet or sth.

Post the txid for the transaction that you supposedly received bitcoin’s that aren’t/weren’t yours.

it is not possible to send coins to an address by simple accidents such as entering an address character wrong. so there is a good chance that what you have received is a payment or a donation. you also have no way of contacting the sender although you can always search the transaction ID on a block explorer and see where the coins came from then reverse search the address in a search engine and see if that turns anything up (eg. it could be the address on a profile of someone on this forum).

important thing to remember: if some day someone contacted you claiming it was a mistake and asked you to send the coins back and you wanted to do it, first ask them to sign a message from the address that sent you the coins to prove that they are who they claim they are.

Maybe the sender is just too generous and found your review very helpful and saved him from any future troubles.

Yeah, I would be surprised if the OP hasn't received a few of those messages already.

But the thing is pretty weird, not only has he posted almost no information, at least an approximation on how much he received but I've checked his site and forms for advertising have been removed, there is no donation address present..why so much secrecy?

Well, if you are certain it's not a payment and not a donation or you consider that donation to be above what you seem fit, you can always send the coins back to that address. Of course, that might not be enough since it might be an exchange address and not linked to the account of the person sending you the funds...

Just keep the coins, don't spend them and if nobody claims it in 10 years you can buy a Lambo with them or donate to the WHO or the Red Cross.

The mistyped address couldn't form a new address as the addresses are case sensitive and exact. If the address is hand-typed and characters are not written exactly and even the capitalization is incorrect then the possibility of it to be accepted by the bitcoin software is very less.

The probability that a mistyped address is accepted as being valid is 1 in 232, that is, approximately 1 in 4.29 billion.

Check if the address from where it is sent is an exchange address if it is an exchange address, maybe instead of sending the coins to another user, it is sent to you. Maybe you can think you are lucky, so you have received the coins unknowingly!

Maybe the sender's copying a wrong address and you are the one who's lucky got that .

There is no way you can message the sender unless he is the one look to your address and find your news website, i am sure there are contact details you added on that website and he can contact you using that. If he search for the address  in google and saw who own that address.

Congrats If you sincerely want to return the funds you can just resend funds back to the address from where it came from. It is really hard to find out to whom the coins actually belong to.

If you were previously used that address to receive payments then someone from your customer might have sent by mistake. If this is one of the possibility then check the history did you previous receive from that address. Probably the customer might have saved your address before and by mistake selected the address now.

For fun you can do this do not disclose the hash or the amount you received and just create thread that one who comes up with the correct hash and the amount can recover there funds. I am saying this because if someone lost it he will some on forums and will ask for solutions thus, there is possibility that he can see the thread.

Maybe it's a donation fund since you said that you are gvliving out your address for accepting donations. If it's not a donation that would be a mistake for the sender and tge solution for it if you want the funds to be sent back is to send it back where you get it just as mentioned in previous post.

you made a review about scam sites and you got paid for your Job which deserves a rewards.  well, i can say someone rewarded you for exposing a scam he might has falling for. i think the bitcoin is not a mistake. it is yours. enjoy your pay for your service rendered. if you feel it is not necessary. you can trace the sender and return it to owner. the choice is yours.

Is the amount really significant? If your page or site has some contact form or email, you might receive an email  if the sender really sent the "extra" by mistake.

Well you are lucky if it was just a mistake and pure accident as no one, literally no one, could ever possibly return, track you, nor reverse the transaction. if your exchange is trusted and legitimate, there should be nothing to worry about. Always remember only to keep in mind that you must not invest on anything to have it or to withdraw it. Most scam exchange platforms tends to tell that you've got this amount yet requested a deposit first.

If you want to get some idea about who send they coins, you should ask "who knows about that address". If it is like you say and that address is listed for donations, that it really was a donation. Maybe a person made a mistake with the amount, but the destination is most likely correct, unless they somehow managed to make a mistake there, like for example bookmarking it and then mistaking it for some other address. But there's one thing sure, it wasn't random.
