The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

You bought it from Bitcoin.com which means possibly you bought "Bitcoin Cash" instead of "Bitcoin". Check again and see if the symbol says BTC or BCH. Can you post the address in here so that I can see where are the coins?
And to explain with details how could i post an image on topic?..
Go to https://imgur.com and upload any image there then paste the image url.

I have the latest version of Electrum 3.3.8

If you have downloaded Electrum from official website which is https://electrum.org, there is no problem with your wallet.

As BitcoinGirl.Club said, you might have bought Bitcoin Cash instead of bitcoin.

Bitcoin.com has two kinds of bitcoin.
1. Bitcoin Core which is the real bitcoin
2. Bitcoin Cash which is the fake bitcoin.

Edit: In reality, we don't have any cryptocurrency called Bitcoin Core. That's the name only used in bitcoin.com.
Thank you BitcoinGirl.Club for clarification.

Which one did you buy?
How much did you pay for one bitcoin?
Every bitcoin now costs about 6,900 dollar, while the fake bitcoin (Bitcoin Cash) costs about 230 dollar.

I did not ask that. I asked can you copy the address where you sent the bitcoins from bitcoin.com. Using the block explorer one can easily see where are the coins. If you bought BCH instead of Bitcoin then you will need BCH wallet to recover the fund and then you will need to exchange them for bitcoin before to send them in an electrum wallet. I am assuming you bought BCH not Bitcoins. I have seen many newbies to make this mistake when they buy from bitcoin.com. That's a shit website where Roger shills his shitcoin BCH and people gets confuse by thinking that they are buying bitcoins.

1. Bitcoin Core which is the real bitcoin
2. Bitcoin Cash which is the fake bitcoin.
There are nothing as Bitcoin Core. It's a made up name given by Roger Ver to separate Bitcoin from his shitcoin.

Correct!
It is that shitcoin which I talked about before and you are not the only one who made this mistake. There are users who do the same mistakes every day and Ver thinks it's fun. Now you really need to do some extra work to recover this funds.

Do you have the seed of the electrum wallet? Answer is yes of course.
Now open electrum and find "address" tab. If you do not see the address tab then go to view> show address and you will see address tab.
You will see list of addresses. Among these addresses you will see 13qkH**** (see the image)

Right click on it > click on Private Key
You will see either p2pkh:K********* or p2pkh:L********* format private key. (Do not share it with anyone)

Once you have the private key then you will need to go to that shitcoin website (bitcoin.com). Download their wallet and restore the address with the private key you have from Electrum. You should be able to access those BCH. Now this is not bitcoin, it's Bitcoin Cash in other words the shitcoin LOL

To have bitcoin you will now need to exchange it with anyone who is looking for those shitcoins to buy or use an exchange to convert those shitcoins into bitcoins. I will suggest you to create another new bitcoin wallet using Electrum when you send the exchanged bitcoins to electrum. Do not use the current electrum wallet anymore. I think will be some security breach since you already restored one of the private key of one address from that wallet. It's always easy to create a new wallet in Electrum.

Yes, I know that.
I just tried to understand what OP did.
Thanks for clarification. I edited that post to not make any confusion.

To OP:

In order to recover your bitcoin Cash, you can also use Electron Cash. (Download it from https://electroncash.org/)

It works same as Electrum.
You will be able to recover your coins even using your seed phrase.

Now this serves you as a learning OP.
This happens quite sometimes if you are new to crypto and hopefully, you could recover your BCH (and make it converted into BTC). I suggest reading carefully, getting familiar with crypto coin's names, and never hesitate to ask someone if you need help. And also, have to use other exchanges other than Bitcoin.com if you will buy again.

There are so many Electrum forks that I lost count.

Electrum... Dash, LTC, Cash, SV, BTG, Doge, Zcash, Zclassic, etc...

It's one of the best and most famous lightweight wallets, so it appears that people just go with it for everything. Tongue

unfortunately this only happens when people do business with scammers. it could happen to anyone if they are not careful, being new is only making them more vulnerable since they may not be familiar with who the scammers are. for example in this case bitcoin.com website has been scamming a lot of people for a couple of years now, mostly newcomer victims.

No one can fool a person who knows at least some basics, and all those who buy BCH thinking they have bought BTC have no idea what they are doing. While there is no doubt that site is presenting their shitcoin as a true BTC and they are guilty of it, there is also great responsibility for those who behave irresponsibly.

I personally rejected some of my friends when they wanted to invest in BTC, because they were interested in nothing more than profit. The first thing is education, then investing in security, and after that we can talk about buying some coins. All those who work in reverse order will make a mistake like the one made by the OP (thankfully easily repairable), and in many cases irreparable. If OP sent a BCH to wallet over which he had no control over private keys, game over.

You are absolutely correct in rejecting. This is what I realized long ago when I used to encourage people to buy bitcoins. They though that it's some kind of online scheme I am taking about and I will have some benefit from it hence I am asking them to buy. These days I only ask them to learn the technology, to learn the idea of bitcoin. I do not ask them to buy any coin unless they ask it first.

Perhaps you were lucky and did not send your coins to segwit address[1], otherwise, you would need more to be able to get that money back.

No one can fool a person who knows at least some basics, and all those who buy BCH thinking they have bought BTC have no idea what they are doing. While there is no doubt that site is presenting their shitcoin as a true BTC and they are guilty of it, there is also great responsibility for those who behave irresponsibly.
To be honest, I cannot blame beginners because there is no reference to distinguish between what is right and wrong. You need to read from all sides to know who to trust, which is something that many beginners ignore, so you find them trust by default in .com sites.

If their only source of information is bitcoin.com, I'd have to agree with you. They present Bitcoin Cash as the true coin and call Bitcoin, Bitcoin Core. This is done on purpose to deceive the user. Someone with very little knowledge would immediately reject Bitcoin Core and go for the Cash variant. 'Core' doesn't hint at money, they are not sure what it means. 'Cash' does exactly that. They might have heard that Bitcoin is digital cash and boom, they fell for the trap.

That entire scam site is designed with a single goal in mind - to trick new users like OP who don't know any better in to buying Ver's trash altcoin. If you click on "Buy Bitcoin", it defaults to buying BCash. They use the word "bitcoin" to fraudulently refer to BCash all across their site, with use the name of bitcoin client to refer to actual bitcoin to add to the confusion. Ver knows his second rate altcoin can't stand on its own merits and doesn't interest genuine or technical-minded users, so he deliberately blurs the lines to trick users who don't know better. OP isn't the first newbie we've seen lose money to the BCash scam, and unfortunately he won't be the last.

Hopefully OP has success following the instructions above to recover the BCH he accidentally bought. Make sure to sell it immediately and buy BTC, and create a new Electrum wallet to receive your real BTC to since you will have just had to import your private key to another wallet.

well that's true but at the same time i can't blame many of them specially in early days when this scam site was selling them garbage and they called that "bitcoin".
so even if you knew the basics and went to a site called "bitcoin.com" and the first thing on their list of coins to sell was "bitcoin" and the second one was "bitcoin core" you would never buy the second one, you will always buy the fist thinking you bought bitcoin but in fact you were buying a scam shitcoin.
take a look for yourself:

i believe they changed this after so many angry customers who got scammed but who knows how they are scamming people now.

Yeah, removing the "Cash" part of the name was a particularly scummy move, even for Ver. How pathetic must your coin be that you are embarrassed by its own name, which you gave it? How pathetic that you must literally masquerade it as something else just to get people to buy it. It's a trash coin and even Ver knows it. I also like that picture because of the prices on it. Shows you just how terribly BCash has done in comparison to bitcoin over the years.

but who knows how they are scamming people now.
They still use the word "Bitcoin" to refer to BCH all over the site. Just from the landing page:
"Buy Bitcoin" - takes you to a page to buy BCH
"Discover Bitcoin for your business" - takes you to a page explaining how to accept BCH
"Buy and sell Bitcoin with others" - a page of offers to buy and sell BCH

Even using "bitcoin.com" instead of "bitcoincash.com" or similar is bad enough.
