In my life, I have read some inspirational stories, that motivate me and give me strength to keep moving forwards more positively. In real life, it is the Steve Jobs' speech at the Standford university in 2005. On the forum, the first motivational stories I read are about satoshi and Hal Finney.

Recently, the forum lost one of the oldest and most established users, Bruno. Honestly, I did not know him and have never contacted with him but I saw his accounts sometimes in the past. That's all I knew before I read his plead weeks ago and related replies from our community. It motivates me that if one user is a great asset of the forum, he or she will be recognized by the forum community and will stay in our memory forever.

I also read about Zepher who passed away in 2018 and the community missed him too.

Today, I made this thread, namely "Bitcointalk's Hall of fame" for the first four users. The Hall of fame is for outstanding users of the forum, and they don't need to have death confirmations to be here. Of course, I don't expect more users will be here but it is life and we will have to witness others pass away.

Local rules:
It is a Hall of fame, so please:
  • Don't troll here
  • Only use nice words as our respect to them

To keep the thread clean from troll, bad words, I created it as a self-moderated one.

Thank you.

* The Bruno Kucinskas Trilogy - Part I: Phinnaeus Gage
 * (it is an investigation from GazetaBitcoin from which theymos agreed and confirmed that paraipan actually passed away and closed the case)

Ok. I will do it later, Lauda. I have same reason why I don't include pass-away date. We don't need to dig for such details.

satoshi's name with these three passed away users feels like satoshi also passed away. At least that's what I felt until I read that :

Quote
they don't need to have death confirmations to be here
May be you need to have some separate sections like:

Confirmed death
Inactive for years
Active and going strong.

I am not going with it because the key point is what we learn from their lessons, their contributions. Being actively/ inactively or death does not make sense. I already states it in OP so if ones carefully read it will knows not all users posted in the Hall have passed away. And when they actually care to learn from those outstanding users, they sure discover how those ones are actively or inactively. I am not going with too much details because it is better to reserve open space for readers to discover, practice and do their own works.

Anyway, thank you.

@tranthidung I hate to burst your bubble, but that's the very thing I was getting at in my thread:

[BitCoinTalk][COVID-19] Grim Reality 19 March 2020, 21:40:54

and it's Honour Roll 19 March 2020, 21:41:32

I see someone else this week has come up with the same idea.

Thank you, Timelord2067.

I did not know that part of your thread. Honestly, I knew it was created for a while sometime but I have never digged deeply into it. Somewhat we have overlapping idea but the contents we do are different, not identical so I think we can keep doing our separated stuffs that obviously can mutually support each other.

I do neither solely do it for Bruno nor COVID-19's victims but also for the others who likely still alive and for any death causes.
Our topic titles make clearly differentiate what we do:
  • [BitCoinTalk][COVID-19] Grim Reality
  • Bitcointalk's Hall of fame

  • TMAN - See also: Link - Last active: 12 March 2020, 17:29:28
TMAN is fine as of yesterday information I saw.
I spoke to Tman today, he's fine. He'll be calling every one of you 'cunts' before you know it.

Memorial thread as a title for the column doesn't fit unless they've all passed away, which won't be the case as this grows. I'd suggest "Legacy" or something to that tune.. people don't want to just read the memorial thread and feel sad right away.. link them to the highlights, the passion, the actual reason WHY these people are in the hall of fame.

I see you've started this with your appendice for Bruno but I'd shift your focus to getting the reader to view their legacy rather than focus on our goodbyes to them.

While this is a great idea, I'm not sure I properly understood the selection criteria... As far as I see, until now only the ones who passed away are listed... If this is a criterion, maybe you should add also paraipan...? In case you decide to add him, this is his memorial thread: REST IN PEACE PARAIPAN.

In case the topic is open also for members still alive, maybe you should add theymos too...? Or Dr. Adam Back (memorial thread: Introduce yourself Smiley or who is this annoying Adam Back guy?; the first suggested memorial thread is included as a link in the second one).

I totally agree with you. English is not my mother tongue so you help me with the advice. Sometimes, we need to express our ideas and purposes correctly. I began the thread to help others know about, and learn from lessons (somewhat ~ legacy) of outstanding users. I still think of which threads will be listed in the table, and which ones will be listed in Appendices, not only for Bruno. Reason is mostly we know about outstanding users from memorial threads for them, and such threads are places we can read and discover their past contributions. Still think of it.

OP is not the original version (that did not have the part of Appendices) and details for each user will be flipped between table and appendices, if needed.

< ... >
I don't think we have a fixed inclusive criteria and this thread is not a campaign. No one has to fight each other to be here. It serves as a place to show community recognitions on what they contributed to the forum, till the days they left the forum or they passed away.

I don't think we need to have community vote for anyone to be here. Never should have such stuff to avoid any arguments. I don't know those users you mentioned but I will check with limited slots. I don't intend to expand the list too much.

In OP, I stated that what I listed are from what I knew.

For theymos, we all know who he is, what he contributed but he has not yet published any thread about himself. While I am not in the position to write about him. Your question makes me think further, the thread should be for outstanding users who passed away or left the forum (inactively for too long). Something like the same in football (soccer), when we called one great player as a legend after his retirement or his death. We tend to better recognise what others did after they are no longer besides us, and easier to forgive their mistakes.

Having alive and actively users in the list might cause some troubles such as drama on why user A is listed in the Hall of Fame with negative trust and other reasons. I don't want the thread will become a start of any drama.

I understand now. Then you can exclude theymos.

As for the ones I mentioned:
- Adam Back is the inventor of HashCash, the protocol underlying Bitcoin. Still alive, still logs on the forum, but his last post is from 2018
- Paraipan was a forum treasurer, also mod of Spanish board, who passed away in 2014.

And you could expand the list with:
- sirius - the first administrator of the forum, after Satoshi left
- Wei Dai - inventor of b-money, his creation being the fundament of Bitcoin
- laszlo - the first one placing value in BTC, after buying the 10.000$ pizza
- genjix (Amir Taaki) - Bitcoin developer, inventor of Dark Wallet and Open Bazaar; also fought in the Syrian civil war for people' freedom in Rojava, bringin them Bitcoin.

Note: all of them are inactive for a long time (not sure if they are still alive).

Nice idea.
Someone should also make Bitcointalk Hall of Shame topic.
It will have much more members, but I would start first with MemoryDealers aka R.V.

Bumping because I think you should add Lauda's name to your list, as she was an upstanding member of the community and permanently left the forum a few days ago, erasing all avenues of coming back. For the legacy thread you can use Goodbye, world!.

Did Lauda in fact erase all avenues of coming back?  I haven't read through that entire "Goodbye World" thread, but perhaps I should.  There have been a lot of members who've said they were leaving the forum for good, and then they don't.

One of the ones who did follow through (so far) is Spoetnik, and another is mixan.  And didn't MPOE-PR have a rather notorious record on the forum before he got banned?  That was a long time ago, so a lot of people these days might not even remember him.

I don't know if any of them belong in the so-called Hall of Fame, but they're all gone now and they were all popular members (except maybe for mixan) when they were active.

Yes, theymos took care of it after the thread was posted and requested as much.

It's sad to see you go. Although there were various small bits of drama and conflict, you've been one of the most active and dedicated members of the community over the course of several years. (And if there's no conflict, then probably nothing is actually being accomplished.) I hope that you're not in any actual danger, and I hope that you will be successful in whatever you choose for your future.

I will request that theymos ban the "Lauda" account (u=101872)

Done. Lauda is banned in the same way as satoshi, such that it isn't possible to even log into the account anymore.

Given th account will never again be active, it would make sense for OP to add it to the list.
