Greetings Everyone,

Lately I am asking myself what else can I do to drastically improve my knowledge in bitcoin and blockchain even though I am just a first year college kid.

I've been thinking a lot how can you guys knows a lot about bitcoin, its economic effect, its technicalities etc., I was just amazed on how you guys respond to some of the very technical question every newbies or amateur ask. I admire all of you folks.

I know to myself that I am reading a lot and feeding my brain with knowledge as much as I can each day but it feels like it isn't enough to at least contribute something in crypto space. Reading books, watching crypto debate, trying to at least learn other programming language though I know C++ because it is one of the subject required in my course but unsure that it is enough.

Am I making a haste? I don't think so because I enjoy what I am doing but at some point it feels pointless and empty.

Is it because of the age? I don't think that knowledge has something to do with my age, it is just a mere excuse to not know a lot better than anybody else.

Thank you everyone.

Edit: This post is located in Serious Discussion before and I decided to move in Beginner's and Help Board to gather some more insights.

what else can I do to drastically improve my knowledge in bitcoin and blockchain even though I am just a first year college kid.

I think that attitude is the most important thing. If you want to learn, that is the biggest asset you can have.
I am not a bitcoin or crypto expert, but a general point is that this is a huge field of study and it can become very technical. It would be a mistake to try to learn everything, if you try this then there is a big chance that you will just become overwhelmed. No-one can know everything, this is true across all areas of expertise. Experts in any field are generally those who specialised in a very specific area. Heart surgeons and brain surgeons are both highly skilled medical professionals, but that doesn't mean they can perform each others jobs. Compare this with a general medical practitioner who treats a huge variety of illnesses and ailments, but for anything complex refers to the patient to a specialist. What I'm saying is that there is a trade-off between breadth of knowledge and depth of knowledge. You can know a little about lots of things, or a lot about a small number of things, you can't know everything about everything. This is as true in crypto as anything else.

So my only advice really isn't don't get dragged into the finer technical detail. A best approach might be to cover the basics of everything, and then once you have a decent overview, you can focus a bit more on a specific area that interests you.

Also, when it looks like someone knows everything about crypto, this won't actually be the case. If you know 5% of a subject, and someone else knows more than you, it is easy to assume they know 100%, when in fact it is more likely they know 10%, it's just that for the person who knows less, it's impossible to determine the extent of knowledge of someone who knows more. For example I contribute a lot on the quantum computing threads; to a casual reader who knows say 1% of the subject, it may appear that I know everything, when in fact I really really don't, I'm probably at 2%, and there are huge parts of the subject that are a complete mystery to me.

If your goal is to contribute, and code is your thing, maybe try to built a simple program every month. Let's say for example, you want to built a block explorer. A simple one where people can type the tx id and then shows the confirmation status. Work it from there. Find out how you can get data from the blockchain and then output it to the web, do you need to use an API, if so, which one. What knowledge you need to make the project works, learn it. This way, you'll have a clear goal before you start diving in everything.

After you finish your project, improve the difficulty a bit. Now you have a website where people can type and shows the confirmation status, how about adding a feature to see the recommended fee per byte, or showing the priority of this transaction on the mempool like some service did, etc etc. I believe you'll gain lots of knowledge and practical exercise by the time you finish the project.

I admire your ambition, it's going to be a fun ride and an excitement that never stops.

From my own experience, you usually contribute indirectly every day without even acknowledging it. I unfortunately do not know any programming language and it's not really what I'd ever do, but if it interests you then follow joniboini's advice.

I think I've brought at least 30 people myself into blockchain & cryptocurrencies. Once you become interested in it, you start advertising & talking about it without even knowing. Information gets accumulated by daily research and interest in the crypto sphere - the more you read, the more knowledge you have about it. Some of the users here surely do have a very in-depth knowledge of cryptocurrencies and I have all my admiration for them. It takes a lot of time and a pretty big brain to gather all that information and be able to answer literally any question with lots of technical information.

Age doesn't matter. In fact, the younger you are, the more time you have to think of something new and unique. As you have been born "later", you may have a different perspective than the others so you never know what the future has to offer for you. Don't take your age as a wall in front of development & knowledge because it's actually a very large open door.

Even if you start from a very small project, in time you never know when a brilliant idea pops up in your mind like a light bulb and you start developing a revolutionary project you never thought you could. Never lose ambition, never give up. Keep on researching and for every question you have, find the answer. Let there be no unanswered question in your mind and you may be one of the most recognized members of our crypto community one day.

Your pacing is exemplary in my opinion. Only few on their young age to advance fast in learning blockchain and to tell you this tech isnt as easy as you know it. I really admire people who gain so much interest to learn but also to share what they grasped.

Only fool would say that age matter when it comes to knowledge. I remember the movie three idiots where the main character slipping into higher class to learn in advanced.

With the course you take, plus your determination to learn in blockchain will result to a superb skill that you can use im so many ways. Who knows you might start a business in crypto or become a blockchain project developer. Own it you deserved it.

I can feel the hunger you have in learning all the things in Cryptocurrency. I have read some of your post and contributions to this thread. Sometimes I am drowning with the technicalities but I feel that you are really into it. You are really into the technical part and I hope you will learn more about it. You are more advance than me, and I am trying to catch up, aheks.

It will never be pointless and empty, all of your hardwork in gaining those knowledge will certainly be a part of you in the future. I hope the knowledge you will acquire in the future will help you think of a one big great idea that will contribute to the industry. Just like how Satoshi made bitcoin. I think that motivation and hunger to learn will help you build a "something" in the future. Please don't be tired in learning. Will be silently wishing you to succeed, in this industry and in your college life.

Well, honestly I'm similar like you, I don't too understand about bitcoins technical deeply. Even thought I have reading bitcoin whitepaper, bitcoin technical discussion thread and also with this thread (usually members ask about technical questions) doesn't make me understand. I keep thinking how this program work, why must use this, why don't that etc. And also I don't have many times to understand it, I must go to work for 12 hours Cheesy

Am I making a haste? I don't think so because I enjoy what I am doing but at some point it feels pointless and empty.

Is it because of the age? I don't think that knowledge has something to do with my age, it is just a mere excuse to not know a lot better than anybody else.

I think that's not the reasons, maybe you should learn the concept or repeating what have you read/learn till you really mastering about it. Because that's what I do to understand the hard or complicated things. Even if you really can't mastering the bitcoins technical, at least you know the basic bitcoin technical and you can still contribute in other things Smiley

I am not knowledgeable ENOUGH in this industry.
This I think, is the mentality that we all should have in order to keep on learning. No one is more superior. You might be feeling that other people are having more knowledge compared to yourself, it might be true, and also, it might not be. The best thing to do is to avoid comparing oneself from the other if it is knowledge you are trying to measure. For sure there are things that I know, but you do not know, likewise, you know something in which I don't.

It would be impossible for someone to not gain knowledge if you are really studying or reading about it. Interest and curiousity are the main tenants, in my opinion, in order to gain new ideas and information. If technicalities are your concern, but you have done your part of reading about it, and still you are freling something you lack, the best thing is to stop comparing. Do your part, then interact in order to know more.

You look like someone who is very ambitious who is thirsty to feel the complexity of technology and various things related to bitcoin and blokchain. But you must know that we were not born smart people from the start. When we have a strong will and desire to know and learn something, we must go through it step by step so that we achieve it.

I think you have a productive age to provide food for your brain with various types of knowledge even though it is very complicated. The main thing that occurred to me is that you must have a high focus and always be consistent with something you are learning. You will be said to be someone in a hurry if you want to do everything at once without going through stages. Focus, be consistent and learn everything little by little then you will get what you want. It is the same for us when sitting in school, we have to learn it gradually.

Education is a life long journey, man. It is not that whenever you read something and you thought you learned would make you a perfect one. Yeah, people here aren't perfect either they are just making less wrong. They might be pretty precise and accurate to what they are saying but that doesn't make 'em a perfect one. The underlying truth is that they are learning and discovering something new continuously while approaching the ideology of perfection which no one could ever be.

I couldn't recommend of anything else because you're already doing what a student, and an enthusiast supposed to do. However, don't ever forget this, always love what you're doing, have fun and don't let of not feeling great over the other spoil the fun. Someday you'll be at their level and would acquire skillset, and ideas they have before you notice it. They might be an untouchable one but it doesn't make you any less of a human. Keep it up, buddy!

I don't know what's gotten into you but it looks like you are putting too much pressure on yourself. It could be because of that idealism and enthusiasm from your youth or it could be that you are wanting to make a name for yourself. Whatever the reason, understand that you have to put effort to achieve the result that you want. I first heard about this formula from a guest speaker and it's still stuck into my head "Effort = Result" In any field, you are not going to get it in just one sitting (unless you are some monster genius). Keep going until you become good at it. I hope my short answer helps.

When learning a new subject we should learn from simple things to very complicated. Your should always consistent and discipline, make a good habits to you. And also if possible, you can try build a simple program on what you learn before. It's will make you understand more than reading only.

Seems you're on productive age, maybe this is just a start from you to understand more about technicalities. I believe you will have many improvement on 6-12 month more.

The world of crypto is vast and there are too many new things to continue to learn or explore every day and must learn all so as not to miss the train. Different people's perspectives to deal with it.

I think everyone will not be able to become an expert in any field. Similarly in medicine, all have specialists in their fields. Even a satoshi, I think he is not an expert in trading, because he is only interested in coding and making it his profession. But that does not mean satoshi does not understand about trade in general.
Prioritize one area that is of interest to you or you already have the basic knowledge/ability to study it further which may one day lead you to become an expert. Taking notes may help, and if you want people to help you learn, you can take notes publicly.

I'd skip over the Coding for now tbh. The required amount of knowledge in understanding the codes of mining is huge as far as I know, pretty complex if you're just starting your programming journey. Still, it's up to you if you want to learn, but take your time, you have plenty tbh.

Improvement is just a matter of time if you always bathe yourself under the knowledge of crypto though. A lot of people here know about the technicalities and the like because of the time they spent in the community, not to mention the various past events in the past that lead them to learn a lot more stuff about crypto.  The best bet for you is to fortify your knowledge, ensure that you actually understand the terms that are part of the cryptocurrency knowledge. No need to go to everywhere, you can start with what BTC is, hash, mining process, etc. Then continue on with it's economic effects and the like.

I've been thinking a lot how can you guys knows a lot about bitcoin, its economic effect, its technicalities etc.,
It's not everyone in the forum that's filled with that knowledge you know, a lot of us are still like you, trying as hard as possible to catch up and know as much as possible. A lot of users you see exhibiting perfect knowledge of the network/technology have being involved for a longer time than others, though not always so, some simply have more technical knowledge, and it's nothing unusual, even if a classroom, some students tend to learn faster than others, they are already miles away before others start to grasp what the tutor is teaching.

I'm not rushing the process(i am a student like yourself)and i don't think you should either, with time you will be surprised at how fast you have assimilated wide areas of the network. As long as you're reading and willing to learn more, knowledge is assured.
