Hi all , whilst going through some historical threads I noticed some forum members mentioning the Respect function, feature or system . This seems to appear in the summer of 2011 ?
As I say I’ve only found a few threads that mention it and a few members that mention it, but I can’t seem to find when/ if it was implemented?
It appears to be an early version of the trust and/or merit system.
I’ve had a good Search , but am a bit defeated by it.
If anyone has any info , I’d appreciate it Smiley

I found an old thread where a user complained that his stats show 0 respect and he asked why that is. Another reply states that the respect system was removed because it was being abused. This was back in 2011.

Do we really need all that different measures of one profile - respect, merit, trust, feedback.
If a system is too complicated probably won't work well.
I agree it takes a lot of time to get oriented in the forum, it's already difficult and probably not many people know the difference between the trust lists and trust feedback.
Anyway, you can probably suggest this feature to be added to the New Forum Software - Epochtalk -> here.

Bit off topic to be honest . I’m just doing a bit of historical reading during lockdown. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on the Respect system.
If found quite a lot on the applaud/ smite system , but very little on the respect system ?

This thread is rather hilarious  Grin

I wonder how it would have worked though, and I doubt there would have been any benefit for, the merit system seem more like a better upgrade to that.

I'd guess this was the link to checking then, since it's now disabled https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=statPanel

The “smite / applaud” threads are fun too - nothing changes  Smiley

If the new indicator, Respect, appears on user profile, will we see Virtue, Karma, Politeness, etc. one more time?
IMO, the trust list and trust feedback are some of tools to show our respect to the others.

Love the graphic - but I think that may have been an April Fools Prank
