What does success mean?

Today you can see many topics and meassages that new projects do not succeed.
But what is success? If we measure success by today's standards, then for the majority it will mean listing on a large exchange and rising prices.
But is it success and success for whom? For those who just made money on this speculation? For a project that earned? For the exchange that earned? And where is blockchain and technology here?

In my understanding:
Success is the full realization by a project of its ideas and goals.
Success should be determined by the benefits that the project brings in itself and gives others, but not how much it costs, because these are just numbers.
Success and price should be determined by the value that the project gives the world, and not the amount of money poured into the project.

I hope that in the future there will be more such examples.

Depending on whose view. Here is the simple meaning of success in my own humble opinion.
1. Developers : They can reach all the goals of the project and be successful as the targets.
2. Investors : They can invest in good coins with high volume on top exchanges. And the project is likely to last a long time with its quality.
3. Bounty/airdrop hunters : They can get free coins and available to trade in any exchanges.

Success will be different point of view depend on the people thought.  Because they have different target for their life.  Some people assume the other already success,  but the fact is they are still consider it is not success at all. 
In crypto world people consider success with money.  They still eager to earn it no matter what happen.  Because they have different point of view about success.

Also for me, success is being the roadmaps of each project are being completely, without tons of to be postponed.
Especially even how bear or bull market is, the project still continues and follow their plan. Some of the projects vanish when the market before was in bear run.

Many projects fail because it's not in their plan to succeed in the first place, they just want to get listed in a crypto exchange and then dump their own token as soon as they can. While others have a really over the top ambitions that aren't achievable at all.
A successful project to me is the one that has achieved its vision and mission, its purpose for creating that project in the first place; to have a real-world application that could disrupt and improve any sector they wish to get in to. Whether it's in finance, automobile, gaming, etc.
If a project can achieve that, the overall price and value of that project's native token (if they have one) would surely surge up since having real-world applications means higher demand and in return would make those who invested (investors) and promoted them (bounty hunters) glad to have jump in and supported it in the first place.

For me the success of a platform when the product that already created was adopted widely. The platform can bring benefit and runs all of its operational cost used the profit that has already generated by product that already offered. That means the product is an important thing to determine how success the company is.

Success means differently in every person. Success depends on person's perspective. In cryptocurrency you have success if you are gaining so much money. In cryptocurrency anyone has the ability to make their money bigger and higher. One of it is investing. There are many investment websites in where someone can invest their money. They just have to wait for the charts and trades and sell their coins and from that they can gain so much return on investment. They may have so many money that they can use in paying their bills and payments.

In our time success varies to the person looking into it. And with most standards, a success of a project is being determined by the process of its listing to an exchange and the market cap that it has gathered.

OP, i think many threads are right when they question the success of ieo/ico projects because we all can hardly point to any of such projects realization the advertised products on Whitepaper.

Most projects wander off products development after a big exchange listing and they preaching product beta out soon until everyone gets tired.

As an investor, your success should be the profits you made from investing, either the token fulfills potential or not, but profits will be even bigger if this project actualize potentials

When a certain project's purpose were achieved and it was widely used in a crypto market like those altcoins like ethereum and monero or the others. Then it is a success project.
 
 If you can see, many projects were just abandoned and left behind not just by the investors but the dev and the team itself. If that project was made for a purpose and that particular purpose was meant to be use by most of the investors then a success was actually acquired.

Agreed with the number three-term of success in this industry, in my years of experiences about some projects that emerged with a lot of funds, they will mostly fail because of their lack of resolutions and you can see something like this when you go back to the year 2017-2018 when there are many of those projects has emerged. but look at them now, some of them have spent millions of dollars just to become known to the investors and yet they failed to gather enough resources to survive up to this time. they failed, that's why.

Yes true. No matter the hardship, the project will keep riding on. This is called success in my own idea. A successful project never fails to bring happiness to investors too. When other project complains of low volume, a successful project keeps working out ways to make situation better.

A successfully delivered project through its product used to be the concern of the most project developers. Even when investors or project follower clamour for exchange listing or pump in price, they still emphasize more on the successfully completed product.
Although, not every one of the projects did that.
The norm and style seem to have changed. They now know that what most project participants, such as investors want most is a good exchange listing, which can make the price pump, but unfortunately, that is not always the case.
No good exchange will want to list a project without a product. So everything still boils down to the product.

For bounty hunters like me, a project becomes successful only when we are able to cash out in huge profit, whether the project meets its roadmap or not. The hunters' definition or level of success may not be same for the owners of the project or the exchange on which it is listed.

For me, if we are talking about new projects, a successful project is simple! Once they deliver the product whether they follow their roadmap or even there was such a delay, they will still deliver the project, a working one, maybe there are flaws but surely improvement is there once it is being tested. Yes, that is what is expected by everyone and also expected by the project developer, only in the success category each project is also different and not always the same, so it must also be understood by everyone.

You are absolutely right, many people have what they use to measure success which most of the times points to listing but that is not what success actually points to. Just like you, I believe success is when the team have achieved all they wanted to, okay maybe not all but a good number of their objectives. Listing is part of it but not all, bringing out the working products is part of it but not all; it generally means getting listed and having a good volume at the same time have an active working products which is being used by users as well as being improved on every now and then which will invariably attract more value to the platform's token. Having more partners is also part of it.

Success depends on the angle at which you are viewing the situation.

For example, Iagon project is struggling for volume on panxora exchange, but has theor products develop and at beta testing at this moment. Crucially, thats a success on the part of the team; but ideally investors have been left with a valueless token for over 2 years, is that a success on the part of investors ? NO.

So in my opinion, true success is when the project products is developed and functional, and also when the trading volume is impressive, and an example to this is the Mixin (XIN TOKEN) project.

I hope in the future, we have clearer projects, not just copy and paste projects as today.
