The team can say that if they can list their coin at more than 3 exchanges, and have good support, that means, they succeed to have a good coin that can accommodate trader or people by using their coin to make money. But that is not all about money to determine what does success mean because I am sure that every project will have their own specification of the success itself. And each legit project will want to achieve their success by work hard.

That's true but people will be going back to the price of altcoin to determine how successful the project based on much ROI can be achieved. For some people success means a great career with lots of opportunities and a decent way of earning mostly passively, while for other success may mean enough to get by or maybe get recognised by a few people.The thing is that the adjective its all very subjective, hence depending on the person or circumstance it can mean different things.

This is a very subjective discussion and depends on each point of view.
For me, this depends on short-term and long-term goals. If listed on the exchange top is a short-term target and it provides a doubled ROI, it will provide benefits for the initial investor. Success is the full realization by a project of its ideas and goals.
Success should be determined by the benefits that the project brings in itself and gives others, but not how much it costs, because these are just numbers.
Success and price should be determined by the value that the project gives the world, and not the amount of money poured into the project.

This is what I often apply. But with a note that the project really has a strong community, good products, and a strong market. However, if the market is not too good then I immediately sell it. I choose to buy bitcoin or ETH for trading.

Yeah unfortunately success nowadays is only measured by price and exchange listing, as long as that project is able to use all of their funds to list on top exchange and pump the price for the benefit of both the investors and project team, then yes, that project is successful, nobody cares if the project carry on with development, establish a service that can actually benefit people, how that project can be able to provide this service using blockchain and so forth, to many, success is price pump.

A successful project in the context of crypto entails lots of things, not just price pump or ability to list on an exchange, this are part of the success, others could be the longevity of the project and the ability of the dev team to keep sustaining the project financially (which is the most difficult part in my opinion)
