In a twist of fate, Youtube was sued by Ripple's Brad Garlinghouse. The lawsuit was filed Northern District of California. And it alleges that Youtube did not prevent those fake "The XRP Giveaway" that made rounds in their social media resulting to lost of millions of XRP to those cyber criminals.

Here is the official documents: https://ripple.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/ECF-1-Complaint-20-cv-2747.pdf

To be honest, I really don't know if this will hold on court. But what we all know is that Youtube as of late is trying to clean up their mess by banning a lot of crypto channels.

So this is the answer we were looking for as i have seen many threads popping up here in the forum complaining about the situation, even i was thinking there was a massive attack against crypto related contents from competitors and mass reporting to get it taken down and now ripple is behind it so that youtube was taking action against every channel even without checking their contents and the reason they reinstated some channels is because they knew they overreacted without checking.

many would undoubtedly consider garlinghouse and ripple to be scammers themselves. Roll Eyes

youtube is gonna point to the millions and millions of banned videos and accounts per year as evidence of their responsiveness. many well-known crypto youtubers such as tone vays have been recently caught in the web of bans.

this will probably get settled out of court for a paltry amount. a case like this would be precedent setting, and i doubt ripple will risk going to court. this is garlinghouse trying to make a statement, ripple trying to make a headline, or both.

Yeah, probably is, that's why lately there seems to be a no respite on banning crypto related channels as Youtube is cleaning up its rank, so to speak.

@figmentofmyass - probably this will be settled out of court, probably they don't want their legs to get drag with this case (whenever there is a weight on this one.)

I wouldn't say it's a twist of fate this time. As it seems there are many videos on YouTube for XRP
giveaways, with the name of Garlinghouse somewhere in the headline. Those are promoted videos
and YouTube had to check that or to not promote scam giveaways. In the law suit it says they
received money for those promoted videos.
We will see the outcome of this, but I think there are reasons for XRP to sue YouTube and I think
they will win this!

It's going to be a long battle they are up against the internet giant Google but I'm ok with Ripple suing Youtube, they are very hard on Cryptocurrency, but one of the repercussion is they might totally ban any videos about Ripple or Cryptocurrency I'm not very familiar on Youtube TOS but they should have disable these scam giveaways channels or they are in part letting it.

I think youtube should sue ripple for being a scam.

What if they did fake giveaways on YouTube? That happens all the time. Maybe they are too desperate to use law against youtube to steal their money. Too bad it is not going to work.

What an Irony, there are people that believed that XRP is a scam, so what do they need to do now. It is interesting that what this space sells is decentralization and uncensorship, if YouTube continue on this path then all the Crytpo content on their platform would be deleted because there are people that still feel Bitcoin is even a scam

How could they know a video about XRP giveaway is fake, youtube's AI I think only identifies copy right infringement.

Probably part of Ripples marketing stunt to get to the pages of crypto news while the market is going up. Any team right now would likely do some stunts to get to the sport light while people who got $1200 from Trump's help are looking for which coin to buy.

Ripple's lawsuit centers on fraudulent XRP granting that relies on hijacked accounts and fools victims into believing that if they will send a number of XRPs, of course with a lawsuit like this will make the YouTube platform experience a pretty bad impact for the YouTube side Because, in addition to having to pay sufficient compensation great for the ripple of course the YouTube party must also immediately overcome the scammers who use their platform to commit fraud and harm others in their fraud. YouTube should be more careful when verifying a content so that fraud like this will never happen again in the future.

I don't think it will hold on court either. But it is good to see cryptocurrencies open lawsuits against google. Google is acting like a dictator, banning at will. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies  and the blockchain technology may be a threat to google in the future, so there is a conflict of interests here.

youtube is gonna point to the millions and millions of banned videos and accounts per year as evidence of their responsiveness. many well-known crypto youtubers such as tone vays have been recently caught in the web of bans.

Google will probably win, but it will spend some money and time defending itself. If other companies do that as well, google might act different in the future.

A weak case against YouTube, I'd say. Given that YouTube was actively banning cryptocurrency-related ads within the fast few years even resulting to lots of users complaining about YT's censorship on their own video platform. This is what happens when a company runs a cryptocurrency: they'd be quick to point fingers on who does what that led to misfortunes of many, all the while not actively campaigning against it for themselves. It's already a given fact that scammers would use cryptocurrency as an avenue to perpetrate their scams. Does YouTube have something to do with it? No.

I'm not putting Google at a good light but rather pointing out that they had been vilifying cryptocurrencies for far too long that I don't think the case will hold any weight on the courts. They might blame the faulty algorithm for not sorting it out but then again, whatever Google does, people will always see something bad out of it. Let's see how Google will respond to this case against them.

In terms of token metrics and XRP is a scam. XRP sued the youtube caused by it was abandoning its users by not deleting the fake investment advice that created by the scammer. Have you got your point, dude? it looks like the majority of people aware of how bad youtube to manage its platform from the crypto scammers. that's why ripple sued to make youtube to delete any advice related to the fake investment.

This is not the first time. There are so many litecoin was being hacked too caused by this problem. It seems like youtube is not taking its responsibility to take down any scam content created by scammer.

I don't understand how this law suit will go! Facebook has closed down perceived scamming crypto projects in the past. If illegal give away are not reported to YouTube managements, how are they suppose to be everywhere? I understand a coding language could take care of that, this actually resulted in shutting down some innocent You-tubers. Who will help sue scammers on telegram for deceiving people off their bitcoin and Ethereum. I guess XRP CEO must be dreaming.

There's no case as YouTube can easily send those bunch of accounts that being banned as evidence that they are not tolerating this kinds of business inside their platforms, if in anyhow someone got the chance to escape reporting it to them will easily taken and banned the channel as quick as possible. It's just another publicity for bringing such actions there's nothing to get from this lawsuit case.

Creating something for a pump?
One good strategy which had been done a lot of times.  Grin

I may be pessimistic but that is how I see it.
Youtube had been responsible with every video that is being uploaded in their website.
I also experienced two of my videos being deleted here because of copyrights.
There may be some who got away but there is a reason why specially now with all the quarantine.

IMO, a huge wave of videos is being uploaded right now, which gives them a hard time to filter it.
Then, shortage of employees.
