Starting to mine | Which ASIC to buy? | New or second hand?

Hi, I want to start mining and I don´t know what ASIC should I buy, here are my second hand options:

-A1 24t: 80USD

-s9 14t: 79USD

-m3 11t: between 40-60USD

All of this with products have an aditional cost of 79-100USD for shipping.

And I dind´t look for new ones but I guess they should be from 200 to 300USD + shipping.

The principal webpage I am looking is Alibaba, but i dont know if it will be a reliable purchase.

Energy won´t be a problem for me, I use renovable one from solar panels.

If you have renewable energy, I'd suggest you to buy S9's (just avoid S9k as they are known to have problems). Bitmain sells new ones really cheap, and I think shipping cost the same. However, if you can find cheaper in your country in second-hand market, I'd suggest you to go for that.

I am not really into Alibaba/Aliexpress as there is a lot of sketchy sellers.

People usually include it if you buy second-hand. If you want integrated PSU, then look for newer generations.

I hope you are aware that these miners use close to 1500w or  36000Kwh per day

The average solar panel wattage is 250w with a loss factor of at least 20% and with 5-6 hours of overage direct sunlight you looking for at least 8 panels just to run one miner for 5-6 hours a day, and then what?

1- Use batteries > mine at a loss
2- Grid > mine at a loss

Unless you are getting some kind of a special deal like how some countries offer those who use solar power some "discounts" (philipma1957 can explain it better) it really doesn't make sense to mine with these gears anymore as long as your not getting almost FREE power 24/7.

The halving is coming in 16 days if prices don't spike much these S9s won't be able to make a dollar per day even with 100% free power, so if you are doing this for profit and not for the sole purpose of learning, I suggest to get a more efficient gear.

If you decide to stick to one of the options you listed, I vote for m3, second will be S9.

That's not inconvenient its convenient. If it pops, you can replace it easily. And, you can use different PSUs, either more capable or less depending on your goal.

S9s running efficiently should use less than 1000w (possibly 800w).

If you buy in bulk, you can get them for as low as 25$, probably less after halving when many miners start dumping them.

Of course, stick to S9, S9j and S9i, avoid the rest.


This reminds me a lot of the S7s before the halving of 2016...
