View forum on mobile

I don't know what's the problem in using the forum as it is? Just because we need to scale it ourselves makes it bad for the forum and arises need for an Android app? I've been using the forum since around 2013 on my smartphone only and had since been happy. It's a different story that the type of happiness the forum derives in my mind while being used through a OnePlus 7T makes it a whole new experience against how I used it in my Lenovo K6 Power. Still, it just takes 2 fingers to stretch the screen and minimize the stress while looking at the posts here.

Like it or not, people are more inclined to use a platform if it has a mobile app for convenience reasons. It's the exact reason why most big platforms has their own native apps. People have simply been too spoiled by platforms with great UI/UX(like all social media apps). While I also find an app unnecessary(a responsive web design should suffice), Remember that people here who find apps unnecessary are only a small minority.

If I had to use the full version of this forum on a phone with manual scaling I would have to end it all. Quoting is fucking unbearable. It can take nearly an age to trim a quote and I usually hit the wrong button somewhere and have to start again.

I've come across quite a few people who only do it through mobile. I've no idea where they find the patience. It's almost always PC for me.

Quoting is terrible indeed, one of the reasons my mobile posts are much shorter than my desktop posts.

Totally. Most apps are really unnecessary as you can have pretty much the same experience on a well-made website. I'm just trying to look through the lens of a casual(non-tech geek) person. This might sound crazy to most of you, but I actually know some people who refused to use certain services just because they don't have an app. Even though they have a decent responsive website. That was the day I realized how seriously platforms should focus on UX.

On a second thought, I don't think Bitcointalk having an app is going to be totally unnecessary. Potential privacy issues aside, having an official Bitcointalk forum app on the Android PlayStore and the Apple AppStore could probably give Bitcointalk a decent boost in traffic.

Some banking apps actually incorporate the security keyboard and offer better functionalities such as paying credit cards.

But then some also ask for access to Files and Storage which makes me go WTF. Maybe for downloading statements, who knows.

I agree with you. Phones should be kept as clean as possible. It is especially important for crypto investors. Risks and hacks are existing and can happen anytime (with banks, crypto, etc.) but with crypto investors their clean condition of their phones should be maintained. There is no one is responsible to recover our crypto back if our devices got hacked or compromised.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced some curious and likely stupid people installed some newborn softwares. They put themselves at risks by installing such apps.

Sure a bigger screen does help of course, but it's not the only solution. The Reddit app I'm personally using, Relay, is GREAT in terms of UI and UX, even though I could also be viewing huge walls of text.

After agonising research in the past, the best solution i opted in mobile was UC Browser (+3 years tho?). There is a scale option whenever i zoom in or out. It may look awkward the first days but once you get used to it, things gonna be ok. I just use it for bitcointalk and it is safe.

It would be interesting to know how many more users there would be, or how many would stick around, with a proper mobile interface or app. It must be a sizeable number. Billions of people only have a phone for internet usage. If that was my one and only option I couldn't take being here.

Yeah, I don't access bitcointalk that much on mobile anymore but I wouldn't use one of those unofficial apps/mods/whatever.  And yeah, there's been quite a bit of discussion about this topic.

And the discussion is not without merit, either.  It would be a nice, modern touch if Theymos would make the site mobile-friendly, and it's puzzling to me why he hasn't done so.  I don't mind what others say is an outdated look to the forum, but making a website that looks and functions better on smartphones seems like something that should have been done a long time ago.

Actually there's no need for an app, a responsive theme is all it takes.

Having to switch between an app and the browser is kinda bothersome IMHO. Then there are lots of phones which don't support the double-tap or gestures to seamlessly go back and forth.

Works fine on Brave and Opera though.
