Remote control your rigs in long distance

Hi!
I need help on controlling my mining rigs.
Imagine having a facility that you own but you dont have time to control the miners every hours or days.
Do i need to hire workers to keep them in control?
Or in another scenario, you have your miners installed in your house but you need to go to work, and you're the only one in the house (lonely dude).
Can I just connect them to the laptop at home then control them online by a software or pool sites?
For me: I install the miners in a location that i only go in the weekends. While the working days i live in another place. Ex. House and apartment.

There are a few ways, some are advanced and pretty hard to use them without exposing your miners, so in a nutshell, you are left with one option which is remote desktop/team viewer, simply buy a cheap pc/laptop, place it in your farm or wherever the "remote" miners are located, then using your mobile phone or PC at work/home you can access that PC and control the miners.

Now that alone will suffice for a few miners, but if you are talking about a lot of miners, then alongside that remote PC you are going to need a monitoring software like AwesomeMiner, obviously installed on the pc which is in the same local network as the miners.

I run three accounts with about 90 miners.

I am in Howell NJ
The miners are in Clifton NJ about 100 kilometers or 64 miles each way.

I use team viewer and can look at every one.
I can boot every one.
I can clock every one
I can change pools on every one.

I did not set up hard boot 🥾 power reset as you need a lot of expensive pdus.

The warehouse is maintained with 7 days and around 13 hours a day. By workers.

Every miner has a number so if my team viewer does not work I can call ware house and tell them turn miner 201 off and turn it back on.

With this setup I have better then 98% up time.

I have not checked miners in person since Feb 7 due to covid-19 shut down.

Of 90 miners 1 L3+ and 1 s9 are dead. plus one board on my t17+ works like shit.

Thinking about team viewer too, but the problem is the battery life of the pc/laptop. Maybe i need to go back and forth for every 3 days if for an average, with immersion i dont think i will need to take care of that much stuff.

What batteries? I assume you have electricity in the farm!, simply plug in the pc and it will be on forever, make sure you modify the motherboard settings to power on automatically if power cuts and come back.

Does kinda depend what your rigs are. Smos OS (or similar) and smartplugs (configure MB to reboot on power) are great for a few GPU-style rigs, but if you're taking asics then the local network PC is a winner for sure...

Yes he is correct. I had some remote ASICs and remote GPUs before in various locations and GPU mining rigs were a huge headache.

Almost everyday or every second day there was some crash. And 50% of the time I was able to do a reboot remotely and everything would hash fine, and 50% of the time, it just lost connection and nothing. Needed a hard reboot which wasn't possible. Had to drive there myself and fix it in person.

I think the most I got was maybe 5 days without issues however eventually some GPU would get hardware errors, next day it would stop mining and day after it would stop all together. And logging in remotely would work however when you do an soft reboot, it would hang most of the time.

Sure there was products which could do a hard reboot remotely but I never got into that because the prices of ETH started to crash and I just called it quits. ASICs on the other hard were mostly plug and play. Never had to login to them, just looked at the pool stats.

You can install a software that comes with the relay on a local PC with Awesome Miner, my mining farm is like 200 km away from my home. I only go there for cleaning and repair, last time was like 6 months ago

I had same issue before like you . Here's what I did : I started watching tutorials about how to configure RDP ( Remote Desktop Protocol ) . You can do the same . It is very powerful tool from windows

Windows Remote Desktop and Teamviewer usually won't load if you got some system hang. For some reason the way the AMD drivers were programmed were that during some crashes, if you try and use the computer normally, all is well. However you can't mine on that GPU. If you try and do a reboot, it for some reason freezes then. You can't log into Teamviewer or Remote Desktop anymore. Hence on some crashes where 5 GPUs out of 6 were still mining, I just left it.

I've been mining since 2013 or so and never had these issues back in the litecoin GPU days of 2013-2014. Those older AMD 15.12 drivers were rock solid stable. Basically never crashed for 1 month, probably used 2x the power even. The issues I think started with Windows 10 for me. Also combined with the buggy AMD drivers released after 2017 wasn't a good combo. Especially their Wattman tool which I could never get to work correct.

Hence this keep this in mind. For some it works but for me it was a big headache to make it long distance.

ASICs are pretty bullet proof and they require very little attention actually. You just need to make sure they are well ventilated so they don't over heat and you should be good to go.

Only maintaince I did on my ASICs were cleaning the fans with an air compressor once every 6 months and that was about it. Never had any issues with crashing or anything. Only issues might come up is if you try and undervolt or overclock the frequencies from the stock settings, you might get hardware errors but won't result in a complete crash, just won't be efficient with hardware errors.

We use anydesk instead of teamviewer, need less resources, no limitation in time if i connect to much to some computers, and it is easier to use.
I use it with Awesomeminer, right click on miner and connect (make my own rule). Don´t use RDP, only with strong PROTECTION, we had last month 2 attacks over Awesomeminer Ports, our luck RDP is deactivate on all machines, but the attackers tried to connect.

This is what I use. Once you set them up you can remotely restart your rigs from anywhere in the world using an app on your phone. They work by using a relay to power on/off the motherboard using the switch inputs.

I also recommend using a Linux OS mining operating system. These will allow you to remotely adjust OC settings, change mining pools and remotely monitor. I use Simple Mining OS, there is also Hive OS and HashR8. All are great for running farms with multiple rigs.
