Hello. I’ve been trying to open my wallet 1GRth6rP4uaPXdw2T6HcGmi7f1RzW4xV94 for almost a year now. I know the password characters, I also have a saved password that is inappropriate.
According to the advice of the moderator https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5209037.msg53342672#msg53342672
I bought the software https://www.thegrideon.com/bitcoin-password-recovery.html#speed

Name:
Sergey Vintachenko
Key:
000017-XEXF24-RP0QH2-EB58KT-J6X0C1-CXPNZ4-JUY931-020ADE-4J893X-6TEYA4

This is not what you need and it didn’t work because it goes through all the letters and characters.
Now I want to try this tip https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5208559.msg53340427#msg53340427
I used bitcoin2john.py and got a hash string. When I try to start this, nothing happens.
How to run a hashcat on a processor?

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Hi,

can you clarify a bit more, please? Do you have the wallet.dat file backed up somewhere? if not do you have any private keys backed up?

I didnt understand the language in the link you provided in the OP because it a Local thread but for you to get the required answer i will need you to answer some few questions.
What is the name of the wallet you lost it password?
Is the wallet.dat file in good condition?
Why the use of hashcat ( cause it was used in password hack) ?

Is the wallet truly yours, or did you buy it in a website to try to crack it?

If it's the latter, then it's almost impossible to crack it open, as many people are already on it, and you see the results they are having....

If the wallet is truly yours, and you know the lenght and "some" of the characters used, then there's a chance of cracking it

The wallet is called the Bitcoin core, I have the wallet.dat file and the wrong password, which does not work.
I was advised a hackcat for hacking. I suspect that a typo in the password is possible, and I want to check it on the processor.

My wallet is not bought. That's why I'm trying to access coins.

Why would you post the public key of the product that you've bought? Now people would just abuse it and get the product key deactivated. Remove it from the OP immediately.

The software is a python script and you'll need to install python first, together with its dependencies. If you don't want to deal with the hassle of setting everything up, extract the key and contact them[1].

What I understand until now is that you have transferred the bitcoins from Electrum to Bitcoin Core wallet back in 2013, with the screen shots you provided in the other threads and you don't have the password for the wallet for the Core.
I'll post the picutres here :

Let the community use it, I do not mind, I paid $ 30 for it. The service wants a file.

I also restored 20GB text files hoping to find the keys, in one I found a password that says Bitcoin core, but the password is not accepted.

The service wants a file.
You can submit the hash only to the service. It does incur quite a hefty fee so it could be your last resort.

Since you roughly know the generally structure of the password with the characters, would it be a better idea for you to use a tailored program for this? BTCrecover is quite good for this[1].

Hashcat with appropriate rules would probably run faster than btcrecover.

In any case, I would highly recommend you contact https://walletrecoveryservices.com/ and negotiate a deal with them. They are specialists in this field and have had quite a bit of success. It's fairly safe as they only require the "password hash" extracted using bitcoin2john.py... they do not need your wallet.dat, so will not be able to access your coins.

The downside is that they can be quite expensive. However, it's likely to yield better results than someone who doesn't know what they're doing messing about with hashcat, btcrecover and various rulesets/token files Undecided

Honestly, I never heard the tool from thegrideon.com it seems a software that can brute-force the password of wallet.dat file.
Make sure to run this software on offline mode for your wallet safe.

Alternatively use BTCrecovery which is already mentioned above.

Why not watch a video on youtube how to use the BTCrecovery?

Here are some videos that you can follow
- Recover your lost Bitcoin password with btcrecover - Install Guide
- Recover your Bitcoin Core wallet password with btcrecovery

Fair enough... but another way to look at it is that at the moment, you effectively have 0 bitcoins... which is better 0BTC or 120BTC? Wink Tongue

When I try to start this, nothing happens.
How to run a hashcat on a processor?
Ok, so what do you mean by "nothing happens"? Huh

To run hashcat, you need:

1. The password hash generated by the "bitcoin2john.py" script
2. Some idea of what your password is

Code:
hashcat.exe -m 11300 -a 3 <$bitcoin_hash_goes_here> <password mask goes here>

For example you can test using the example hash from here that has the password 'hashcat':
Code:
hashcat.exe -m 11300 -a 3 $bitcoin$96$d011a1b6a8d675b7a36d0cd2efaca32a9f8dc1d57d6d01a58399ea04e703e8bbb44899039326f7a00f171a7bbc854a54$16$1563277210780230$158555$96$628835426818227243334570448571536352510740823233055715845322741625407685873076027233865346542174$66$625882875480513751851333441623702852811440775888122046360561760525 hash?l?l?l

-m 11300 == bitcoin wallet.dat format
-a 3 == bruteforce attack mode (word lists probably are not of use to you if you think you have a good idea of what your password actually is)
hash?l?l?l == password mask of text 'hash'+lowercase letter+lowercase letter+lowercase letter

That command should "quickly" find that the password is: hashcat

Your issue will be defining the 'mask'... you need to know how many characters in your password, and the characters used... ie. lower case, uppercase, numbers, symbols etc, then you can build a mask using the following table:
Quote from: hashcat --help
- [ Built-in Charsets ] -

  ? | Charset
 ===+=========
  l | abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
  u | ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
  d | 0123456789
  h | 0123456789abcdef
  H | 0123456789ABCDEF
  s |  !"#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\]^_`{|}~
  a | ?l?u?d?s
  b | 0x00 - 0xff

So, say you think your password is 8 chars long, and uses a mix of lower, UPPER, numbers and symbols... you would use: ?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a

If you are 100% of the characters at a position, ie. you know 100% the password starts with WOW, you could use: WOW?a?a?a?a?a
or if you know it has 2 numbers on the end: ?a?a?a?a?a?a?d?d

Obviously, the more specific you can be with your mask, the smaller the keyspace that needs to be searched and the less time it will take to find.

Refer here for more info regarding mask attack: https://hashcat.net/wiki/doku.php?id=mask_attack

NOTE: if you find you are getting "Token Length Exception" errors when trying to run hashcat, try using the BETA version from here: https://hashcat.net/beta/

While it is very difficult, I use this program https://www.thegrideon.com/bitcoin-password-recovery.html
That software has been mentioned on this forum a few times in the past. The info I could find is that it is closed-source and personally I wouldn't use it when there are better alternatives, like BTCrecover. Be careful what you use for such amounts.

Does BTCrecover refuse to work like a hash cat when I enter the string hashcat.exe -m 11300 -a 3 $ bitcoin $ 96 $ **** hash? ~? #? 5? C? L? T E K? F? Y? /? 5? r? this does not work. Now I am downloading the blockchain and making a video so that it is clear what I am doing.

your string looks a bit incorrect... it shouldn't have all the spaces in it...

Code:
hashcat.exe -m 11300 -a 3 $bitcoin$96$**** hash?~?#?5?C?L?TEK?F?Y?/?5?r?
But it looks like you're getting the position of the ?'s wrong... and you don't quite get what the ?'s mean.

?l == lowercase letters (ie. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz)
?u == uppercase letters (ie. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ)
?d == numbers 1234567890
?s == symbols !"#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\]^_`{|}~
?a == All of the above

if you want to use a specific letter... you don't use ? at all... So, I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to use as your mask... but pretty much none of your ?'s make any sense... Huh Huh

So, that command as it is written isn't going to work.

You've spent the Bitcoin Cash without moving the real Bitcoin on October 30, 2017. Any chance you still have the private key imported into a BCH wallet you have forgotten about?

20% - 30 bitcoins is a lot of money to just give away.
You might be able to negotiate on that amount Smiley

Usually the command line scripts run under one core on the CPU, I think we could use crunch to generate the passwords by range and use the GNU parallel tool to find it faster.

I haven't tried yet, but i will make some experiments and share the results. This should make faster the HCP way.

I didn't know why this conversation was about cracking the wallet through hashcat when the OP still has the wallet.dat file which still contains the wallet in the subject private key, i think it better to work on getting the private key and import in the wallet of your choice. Besides, this thread one and two will be helpful for you.
Meanwhile, I hope the OP is not among those that buy wallet.dat with balance and lost password online.

I had no business with Bitcoin cache, maybe they sent it from my wallet, as if I did not know, I need to look at the hard drive.

I want to insert my password from a text file and try one character at a time for an error, this may work.

This is my wallet, there are a couple of days left until synchronization, and I will shoot the video, as well as the hash problems that I have. I am very close, I feel it.

Who is "they"? Someone sent Bitcoin Cash from your address, and if you didn't do that, it means someone else has access to the wallet you claim is yours while you can't access it.

Not sure exactly what you mean by try one character at a time. You have to test complete passwords... but do you mean you just want to check each character for error?

If so, then I believe the following might help. For instance, if you think your password was "ha$hc4t", but you think there might be a typo with the first character... you could try:

?aa$hc4t

This will try EVERY character (?a) at position 1... followed by "a$hc4t":

aa$hc4t
ba$hc4t
ca$hc4t
da$hc4t
ea$hc4t
fa$hc4t
...
etc etc

You could try that, and if not successful, you could try the 2nd char:

h?a$hc4t <--- "h" (test every character at position 2 with ?a) followed by "shcat":

ha$hc4t
hb$hc4t
hc$hc4t
hd$hc4t
he$hc4t
hf$hc4t
...
etc etc

And then try position 3, then position4 etc...

You can also create a ".hcmask" file, that includes all the masks you wanted to try...

Code: (example.hcmask)
?aa$hc4t
h?a$hc4t
ha?ahc4t
ha$?ac4t
ha$h?a4t
ha$hc?at
ha$hc4?a

Would try each of those masks, one after the other, exhausting all possible permutations before moving onto the next mask... you just use the file name in place of the mask in the commandline:
Code:
hashcat.exe -m 11300 -a 3 $bitcoin$96$**** example.hcmask

It's not only the BCH but BSV too > https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-sv/address/1GRth6rP4uaPXdw2T6HcGmi7f1RzW4xV94
Same date.
Seems strange to not have control over the address, but have accessed it earlier. The whole story start to be a bit fishy.
@OP I know the language barrier can make a lot of confusions. If you are using some kind of translation software like google translate, use a short and clear sentences, it will be a more accurate translation and it will be easier for us to understand.

Of course, BSV didn't exist yet when those BCH transactions were made*.

That is indeed the point I was trying to make. Maybe I was too subtle Tongue

I don't really care about your reward.
Anyway, no answer to the question who moved the BCH? You don't want to reveal information regarding the real owner of the wallet so I assume it was traded.
Who had access to the wallet in 2017?? Who are "they"?
You have to understand you cannot come here with a wallet filled with 1.4M USD and expect people to not be specious for all you say. A crime is not a joke.

Hey, I want to help - send me private message with hash or check mail - I sent you email today morning.
An account registered yesterday whose first post was offering help for $1.4M fund. You're tagged.

Yes, because before I was only reading. And I do not want to spend money on something (look others topics/websites which sells wallets) for what I probably have no resources.
This topic looks strange, indeed, but in fact I am interested in this subject to evaluate effectiveness of using new Amazon GPU workspaces - as I understand this is (maybe one of) solution used by other "wallet hackers". If author wants to find password himself - great,  but why not publish hash and just wait for successful answer?

Provenance of the wallet.dat file notwithstanding...

Given the supplied password... the following "mask file" will try checking for basic typo's on each character first (including SHIFT not held properly when typing UPPERCASE/symbol, or SHIFT accidentally held when trying to type lowercase/number). Then it will test each position, one at a time, and try ANY possible character in that position.

NOTE: if there is more than one character incorrect, this will NOT work.

Code: (test.hcmask)
?s?d,?1#5cltEkfy/5z
?s?d,~?15cltEkfy/5z
?d?s,~#?1cltEkfy/5z
?l?u,~#5?1ltEkfy/5z
?l?u,~#5c?1tEkfy/5z
?l?u,~#5cl?1Ekfy/5z
?l?u,~#5clt?1kfy/5z
?l?u,~#5cltE?1fy/5z
?l?u,~#5cltEk?1y/5z
?l?u,~#5cltEkf?1/5z
?s?d,~#5cltEkfy?15z
?d?s,~#5cltEkfy/?1z
?l?u,~#5cltEkfy/5?1
?a#5cltEkfy/5z
~?a5cltEkfy/5z
~#?acltEkfy/5z
~#5?altEkfy/5z
~#5c?atEkfy/5z
~#5cl?aEkfy/5z
~#5clt?akfy/5z
~#5cltE?afy/5z
~#5cltEk?ay/5z
~#5cltEkf?a/5z
~#5cltEkfy?a5z
~#5cltEkfy/?az
~#5cltEkfy/5?a

Create a new file where hashcat.exe is... call it "test.hcmask"... copy/paste the above masks into it and save it.

The hashcat commandline should be:
Code:
hashcat.exe -m 11300 -a 3 $bitcoin$96$**** test.hcmask
NOTE: replace $bitcoin$96$**** with your actual wallet.dat hash extracted using bitcoin2john.py

Hashcat will then run through all the 1 character possibilities. If it doesn't work then, as noted above, there is more than one character that is incorrect... Undecided

I do not understand. I have a password that is not found. All spammers will be excluded without reward. I have a bitcoin wallet !!! I increase the reward to 1 BTC

I have a password ~#5cltEkfy/5z it does not work! I want to check every character. How to do it right?

2 people are denied rewards due to spam, I will not pay for empty messages.

You seem to be right. I remembered how it all began, and now I understand what is happening and who may have a password. here is my old topic

Are you still having issues running Hashcat? If so, what errors are you getting when you attempt to run it? What output do you get? Huh

It's 14 pages of comments and I don't think I can find the info you are talking about. What you say here is that someone else have the password, is that right? But even if he has the password he does not have the wallet.dat file so the password is useless.
There is no logic, someone to move the BCH but not the BTC, don't you think? The BTC cost apprx. 1.4M$ (even more on the time the bch was moved) compared to that the BCH are only 38k$ at today's rate.
If you have not moved the BCH, someone else have either the private key / the seed, the wallet.dat and your password.
Strange.

On both PCs, the error is the same, here from the old disk on which the original wallet lies. http://icecream.me/ff575568b385d668fd97e9b2b69b6d06

Strange.

Therefore, they turned to me on the account of the wallet.dat file to remove bitcoins, I suspect that a friend lost the file that he stole from me, very suspiciously he appeared after so many years and started talking about the file.
Now I understand what is happening, but I don’t know anything about the decomposition of the Bitcoin cache, anyway, thanks, now the whole puzzle clears up. And if this person changed the password, could this be the current problem of not accepting the old password or not?

I guess you are using Windows.
Which graphic card do you use?
Did you try to launch hashcat using cygwin and the latest version from git? Like described here: https://github.com/hashcat/hashcat/blob/master/BUILD_CYGWIN.md

Do you need to use option --force ?

Maybe this will help:

hashcat requires OpenCL. It seems you do not have it installed.

If you don't have a graphics card (GPU) like AMD or Nvidia, you can try installing the "OpenCL Runtime for Intel Processors" from here: https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/articles/opencl-drivers.html#latest_CPU_runtime

It will most likely run a lot slower than it would with a GPU, but at least it will run.

As I suspected, it was a "SHIFT" typo with the "5" and "%" symbol... typing the "5" too quickly after holding "SHIFT" to type the "#" just before it Wink

It is so simple Huh ........ Tomorrow I will be at home and verify the password. It is a pity that I did not take the laptop with me, I already want to try it faster, I can not wait. All with the past holidays.

It is not your wallet. The hash you supplied is for a different public key. I know because I have the wallet.dat too

It is obviously one of those "fake" wallet.dat's which has been modified to include public keys containing tens/hundreds of BTC and then sold for 0.1 BTC. Roll Eyes

I'd like to point out that the OP actually did put it up for sale in their CryptoTalk thread (via the pay2download file hosting service satoshidisk.com) Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

NOTE: DO NOT PAY TO DOWNLOAD THIS FILE!

You'll find that the password found will not allow spending of the BTCs... the encoded data in the wallet.dat will be some bogus data which even when decrypted, will not allow you to spend anything.

My wallet is not bought. That's why I'm trying to access coins.

Well, well, well... how the tables have turned....

Things start to be more interesting, I even contacted theymos to edit the post where the OP posted the satoshidisk link with the .dat file for sale, with the concern that someone might buy it for 0.1BTC and with the password get access to the funds and he did it.

Inventive scam. I mean on some level you have to know when you're buying a wallet.dat file worth millions of dollars for $800, you're the sucker at the table. I guess hope springs eternal.

If the password is changed then that's a good news. When you have the time can you please sign a message from the address - 1GRth6rP4uaPXdw2T6HcGmi7f1RzW4xV94 , so know that everything is fine?

I think you can still sign a message while you are reindexing Smiley

the password has changed.
What do you mean the password has changed? You changed it? or the wallet is not accepting it? Huh

the -reindex option does not alter the password. It simply throws away the chainstate and the block index and rebuilds it all from scratch by re-indexing the blocks already on your disk.

I think what happen is that the guy got access to his wallet, and changed the password. But now he is reindexing the whole blockchain and it will take a month (slow connection/computer) until he can move the funds.
This is what I understand from his messages.

No, the satoshidisk link is still active, and there is already one idiot who bought this file because of greed. This is what the calculation is made of. Do not get fooled by this shit.

He is, as stated above, a scammer.

Re-indexing has nothing to do with your ability to
1) Move coins. Since once you have a password you can export the private key and import it into something like electrum.
2) Sign a message.

I smell something fishy right from the get go when the OP opened this thread but no one seems to be concern about finding the truth if the OP actually bought the wallet.dat online or not before helping him cause it something thats happening these days.

Meanwhile, I hope the OP is not among those that buy wallet.dat with balance and lost password online.

You are added to ignore, there are many spammers like you.

Just did a test. Started a reindex, still managed to export the private key and import it into electrum in under a minute.

Then I did it on an old slow system with the blocks on an external drive, much slower to even start the re-index and I got bored of waiting so I killed the process, renamed the blocks / chainstate / database folders restarted QT and exported the private key. That took almost 4 minutes.

I changed the password and the file is useless for you, even if you get access to it.
You do realise that changing the password for the wallet.dat on your local computer does absolutely NOTHING to other copies of that wallet.dat right? Huh Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I especially like the way you have the notepad reminding yourself to send 1 BTC to iasenko and math09183 Roll Eyes ... I also like the way you have the "new password" shown in your video Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

As Dave pointed out, there is nothing stopping you from using "dumpprivkey" or "dumpwallet" or signing a message from "1GRth6rP4uaPXdw2T6HcGmi7f1RzW4xV94" while Bitcoin Core is resyncing. There is no need to "wait another month" Roll Eyes

Except for the fact that you can't sign a message from "1GRth6rP4uaPXdw2T6HcGmi7f1RzW4xV94" can you?  Huh

He don't have this wallet. on video you see nothing. you can only see a some wallet with this password. lol. zero proof.

Let’s do it again, the same thing, just press the hide button so that we see an empty balance on the wallet.

A simple example of how to fine-tune everything, based on the message above, I see with the naked eye where the fake is where the truth is, there are a lot of things that do not match in this topic, look at both, the first reason is the public key that is freely available.
SKAMM

As you see in the video, everything is not very clear when I fell for this after losing 2 bitcoins.

I don't really get what you mean, didn't you say that you imported the private key in Electrum? The link for the video you shared is wrong.

Not really; the video was working when he posted it; I saw it and it was an Electrum wallet, with the address that had the 150+BTC and a lot of text in Russian.

What I don't get is that he first said that he had the address and had swept it, and then he goes on to say that it's a scam and he lost money???

I'd ask for a signed message if he is really in control of the address, but this last turn on this thread is being really mind-blowing

So, I've been offline for a couple of days... and come back to whatever this thread has devolved into... but if I'm reading this correctly:

WOW777 accidentally posted from their alt account "TITANxp"... offering to give several users, including myself 1BTC... and then deleted the message... and then tried to make out that they had been scammed for 2BTC. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Am I correct so far? Huh

Looking at TITANxp's post history, they appear to be trying to sell wallet files for $10...

This possibly rates as the most bizarre, convoluted "bogus wallet" selling con that I've seen. Thanks for the entertainment!
