It appears there is something that behaves worse than an army of farmed accounts of altcoin clickbots on Twitter. Twitter accounts with real people behind them who are uneducated bitcoin maximalists hehehe.

The learned maximalists voices are drowned by the stupid.



JK Rowling probably wasn’t expecting to unleash the bitcoin community’s pent up passion and imagination when she tweeted two sentences asking about bitcoin.

But the author of the Harry Potter series did. Responding to a tweet from CoinDesk senior reporter Leigh Cuen, Rowling tweeted: “I don’t understand bitcoin. Please explain it to me.” In just two hours her tweet had spawned 1,300 replies.

It took less than three hours for her to follow up with, “I don’t think I trust this.”

Lurking below the Twitter surface is a massive community of people who tweet about almost nothing except bitcoin and cryptocurrency day in and day out, dying to use their niche know-how for the good of the world. Rowling accidentally tapped into it.

And Rowling herself seemed unimpressed by the explanations sent to her.

“People are now explaining Bitcoin to me, and honestly, it’s blah blah blah collectibles (My Little Pony?) blah blah blah computers (got one of those) blah blah blah crypto (sounds creepy) blah blah blah understand the risk (I don’t, though),” Rowling tweeted.

Why are people overreacting to this and thinking that this is something negative towards Bitcoin? Obviously the wrong thing that JK Rowling did is ask "What is Bitcoin" in the internet on a social media platform where a lot of trolls exists. The answers she would get will obviously be not correct or at least be stupid enough for Rowling to be confused. If you read the article now you will see all replies to her are answers about Bitcoin in relation to her books which will confuse anyone who really don't know what they are looking for.

Yeah, one person is irrelevant to Bitcoin's long-term adoption, but this whole twitter chain is a good demonstration that crypto people don't understand non-crypto people at all, so many prominent people in the comments failed to make an explanation that would make sense to a layman. How are we supposed to reach mass adoption if we can't connect with potential adopters?

Well, now we know exactly how good the Twitter crypto people are at teaching a newbie about Bitcoin. And this is exactly why I don't just go round telling people about Bitcoin because unfortunately, it scares people off if you go on and on about Bitcoin like a crypto fanboy. Many others want to learn, to use, and to hold bitcoin. If somehow, JK Rowling finally buys her first bitcoin, then let her search for what he can use with her bitcoin. I am sure many people want to teach her

Makes me glad I don't have a twitter account, heh.  I'm only more convinced by the day that the only purpose served by twitter and reddit is for all the idiots to congregate in those places, so that the rest of the internet can be a nicer place.

I think we're set for a perpetual cycle of <insertcelebrityhere> taking a brief interest in Bitcoin and then getting overwhelmed by the responses and effectively being driven away.  It's like they're just getting slammed with a wall of information and it's too much to take in.  People need to take it down a notch.

They can't. They're too desperate for a pat on the head. The way for Bitcoin to give people like her an erection is when her own financial people advise it. That's the best and most viable route. In the meantime it's far better if the screeching kiddies keep their traps shut.

Yeah, this is really not about Rowling but about the "Bitcoin community". I'd love to defend it but I know what it's like too. At least this forum's got plenty of helpful people but once you get into that mire of corporate bitcoiners it's clear that they don't really understand the things they're supposedly trying to promote... mainstream adoption, banking the unbankable, etc.

Even the Scientologists are better marketers than these guys. They should just leave the marketing to their CMOs.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling continued to rile up Bitcoin supporters today, when she apparently revealed her allegiance to BTC’s No.1 competitor—Ethereum.

Rowling tweeted, “This is getting silly. I’m not joining the Bitcoin community. It should be perfectly obvious by now that I’ve been trolling Bitcoin in the hope of boosting my significant Ethereum holdings.*”

I think she's having a bit of fun at the expense of crypto pompousness. But I'll bet you there are people who 'support' ETH who don't know anything about BTC and probably understand nothing of ETH either. Possibly the majority.
