Have you ever wondered how the future of crypto land will be once all Bitcoin are mined by 2140? By that time, Bitcoin miners will be living off fees. It's expected that Bitcoin's price would be high enough to help sustain miner's operations. Bitcoin could be well worth over $1m by 2140, if all goes well. There will be a lot of demand for altcoins as digital cash, while Bitcoin will be the world's store-of-value asset. Scalability and privacy may no longer be an issue within the Bitcoin blockchain, as developers would've found a way to make the pioneer cryptocurrency useful for the world.

While we still have a very long way to go for this to happen, it's great to imagine how the future of Bitcoin and crypto will be after a century since their inception. I'm curious to know what do you think Bitcoin's future will be after 2140? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Smiley

Since we are talking about 2140 where i will be long gone from the face of the earth and if my presence in this site and BTCitcoin can be seen as my foot print of existence it will be my ghost  Cheesy, i can dream about sending BTCitcoin for a few pennies by that time and the miners will be living off the fees and without incentives they will not be sticking around for a long period of time and for that to happen i am expecting a revolutionary scaling solution by that time without expecting the price to reach a million dollars.

With all these expectation and the financial freedom we have, i hope people will have the same kind of freedom we have right now, considering how every movement is captured by the authorities and with the corona crisis each and every footprint of every individual is monitored and i hope they will stop doing that after this pandemic is over.

as @eaLity said, I am also gone by that time.

That's over a hundred years from now, it's really hard to imagine what might be the value of bitcoin by that time but for sure, its value will be something different from now. Bitcoin will surely be adopted from different countries and legally used to do in different transactions.

I have read a ppst by Satoshi which was something like "In future, BTC will either be huge expensive that people can never imagine, or it will just die." I also think that way. If BTC will not become so expensive in future, miners will not just maintain the network as charity. However, we are talking about more than 100 years and I doubt BTC would exist such long times.

From the previous year the market price of the bitcoin is just ignored by the people because it looks like a less than dollars but today the price of the coin ate rapidly increasing and giving a good market value of the coins and now we are seeing the volatile of the market and in just a single month we saw the market price of the coin falls down but because of the volatile it grows up immediately and recovering back to it's highest market earning which is a good thing and gives a huge market income

I think the market price of the coin in the year of 2140 is already exceeded on its market price today because the halving is already reached the block required before on that year IMO I think it has come over 20 dollars but still this is a dream for us.

In my opinion, our society is always developing. You ask the future of Bitcoin will be like after 2140?
I would say that there will probably be a different currency at that time. Since the arrival of mankind, they have exchanged goods. Then They use metal coins, then the paper money. To this day we have banks and transactions by wire transfer. In modern society, the use of Smart phones and QR codes for payment is becoming more and more popular.

And then Bitcoin cryptocurrency appeared. It has been a lot of controversy, but as you probably already know there are places that accept it for payment or money transfer. So society has evolved and in the future I don't know what kind of money will replace Bitcoin. But there will certainly be new technologies emerging and once Bitcoin is mined there may be another currency replacing it.  I wonder if my thoughts are somewhat satisfactory to you? Let me know your review of my answer

Perhaps Bitcoin is dead or there is still a way to survive. But I like your logical way of thinking. I also think there will be new technologies that will replace Bitcoin when it is fully exploited.

Bitcoin mining will become unprofitable probably a 100 years before that, so what you say will probably be experienced in our lifetime. This does not mean higher demand in altcoins, Bitcoins are scarce and thus more valuable. Just because you don't make money mining bitcoin does not mean it loses value, most of bitcoin's value is unrelated to mining (contrary to some beliefs). See after each halving bitcoin mining profit gets cut, as it was designed to, and the same happens to miners, because it is a transition to the stage where most bitcoins that there ever will be already exist and no more are coming (or take so long to come that its pointless to wait for them).

As i keep telling people, bitcoin price isn't rising to compensate miners. It does go up, but at a lesser rate than mining. Mining was, since the beginning, a temporary thing. Those that made models thinking mining will remain forever, where wrong since the beginning. You can't possibly expect endless mining with a coin with finite supply, this is how flawed that thinking is. But unlike an abrupt ending, the halvings make for a a smoother transition. Miners have the chance to plan their exit, as many have done.

Sooner than later, the only mining will come from hobbyists and those with "free" energy. By then the hashrate and difficulty would have gone down, but since its unprofitable anyway most won't bother. Bitcoin will go on just fine, of course.

My view about altcoins are contrary to yours. There are simply too many, most are destined to die. And people are not going to bother carrying 100 different types of coins. The only thing that matters in the end is: Can it be exchanged for bitcoin? And that is that. If a second or third altcoin manages to survive and get used, it would be a miracle.

I have warned miners before that the time to diversify or even venture into other business with the money they got from mining is now, and every day that passes, if they don't shrink and switch they will end in the red and lose all.

2140 is a long time in future. None of us would be alive at that moment. And it would be quite absurd to think about economics at that time.
If I were to imagine, economy would be a whole different from what we have today. The society and the systems would too be different.
Imagine 1900s and where we are now. Similar would be the difference now and in 2140. And I don't think bitcoin would be perceived and trades as it is at that date. We may be keeping the coins with us as an antique but I don't think we would be trading them with value.

I think he (BTC) will not die. Just look at blokchain being a solution in various kinds. Blokchain cryptographic systems evolve with growing needs and times. I am very sure of that. But maybe I didn't arrive in 2140, maybe my grandchildren.

it is hard to predict bitcoin after so many years. but if we put basis on its price chart we can really see or notice that the bitcoin is always rising, it will rise and sometimes fall but it does not return on its starting price from year 2009 so I believe that after so many years bitcoin will become more amazing.

To move on in 2140, it seems that we will never know, maybe our children and grandchildren will find out about Bitcoin in 2140. Now all we can do is predict Bitcoin in that year.

Maybe Bitcoin will be the most valuable asset in the world as the best digital asset, because the development of technology is now increasingly advanced with an increasingly widespread internet media.

The developers will continue to develop Bitcoin, Blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies to be better and more flexible to enter the world economic system.

Everyone who is in the cryptocurrency world wishes the best for the future.

It's impossible to make any kind of good prediction for such a long term. People can't even predict Bitcoin's price, adoption level, protocol development for a few years ahead, and you're asking about 120 years. There's a solid chance that Bitcoin will no longer exist by that time. Maybe it will fail to get adopted and everyone will lose interest, maybe there will be an entirely new technology for decentralized payments, or maybe we'll have a nuclear war that will destroy the internet. Or maybe Bitcoin as we know it will evolve into something much bigger, just like computers evolved from huge boxes into pocket-sized gadgets. There's way too many possibilities, especially considering that Bitcoin doesn't exist in a vacuum, it relies on other technologies like the Internet, computers, operating systems, data storage. They will change a lot in 120 years.

I can not imagine that how bitcoin miners will be able to survive based on transaction fees. I believe bitcoin will increase in price, and maybe it will reach a very high one in 2140 but as a very normal growth, bitcoin transaction fee should be cheap and as cheapest as possible to increase its adoption.

The only one thing I can imagine of is a very good adoption of bitcoin in 2140, and miners can make many transactions and earn fees from them. Maybe it will be supported by some future protocol changes.

If someone does not find a way to allow us to use Bitcoin in the afterlife then what will happen in 100+ years falls into the realm of science fiction.

Joking aside, it is impossible to predict the future of anything in the next 100 years, because people show almost no signs of common sense (with rare exceptions) when it comes to the survival of mankind on planet Earth. The fact that we are relentlessly wasting resources to the point that they cannot be renewed does not guarantee us a very promising future. Earth Overshoot Day is getting earlier every year, which only speaks in favor of the fact that people are not quite as intelligent as they seem.

No one knows what will happen tomorrow about bitcoin, I don't know if Bitcoin will ever live for that year as well. If ever Bitcoin survived until that very year, I am sure it takes many leaps we could ever think of - maybe a single satoshi is worth as a fee for a transaction and many more.

I am thinking dollar and other fiat currencies have been discarded and people are using crypto as its sole money paying for services, goods, etc.

That's over a hundred years from now, it's really hard to imagine what might be the value of bitcoin by that time but for sure, its value will be something different from now. Bitcoin will surely be adopted from different countries and legally used to do in different transactions.
Well, I agree in the part of bitcoin's price change by the year 2140 but to be honest I'm getting a little bit skeptical with regards the adoption. I say so because even in whatever timeline we are, government has a consistency. I mean, it was handled by different people over time but the way how it goes is the same. What I'm tryimg to say is that if your country hates the concept of cryptocurrency today then most probably it remains the same in the year 2140. Nonetheless, I am hoping all the best for bitcoin. I hope it will not take that far either for us to ach3 our dream of crypto revolution Smiley.

I believe whoever active on forum currently will never live till 2140 (not sure, perhaps any lucky man would live), so it's quite complicated to imagine as well. Simply when bitcoin has created then no one had expected that bitcoin could reach $20K on 2017. Same like we don't know exactly what will happen, perhaps bitcoin would replaced with some new technology and it will not exist. But to be honest if bitcoin exist upto 2140 then I am not worried about miner fees. There is huge potential that price would increse out of our imagination. Then transaction fees would be enough to genarate revenue for miners since bitcoin  adoption continues.

With bitcoin's uncertainty during these times, it is harder to predict for its future and talking about more than a century we are all dead by that time. We can unsafely predict what bitcoin could become after 2 to 5 years of its existence, we even have several governments opposing the bitcoin. But I'm wondering for that long time, if we are not dead yet, are we going to discover better currency than bitcoin I mean we are testing many lines right now so maybe we are just too focused on bitcoin coz it is a thing now.  We can't really tell no?

^ Bitcoin in 2140 may or may no longer exist by then but one thing for sure all of us here are no longer alive on that year since that is too far from now. We cannot predict what will be the outcome of bitcoin or cryptocurrency in the future but nevertheless if bitcoins still exist during that time the price of bitcoin may really reach a more than what we expected. But if any cryptocurrency will be adopted I am positive that either the government or any financial institution will take place and would tend to manage the exchanges for bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies which probably control the rise and fall on its value. I have read an article that JP Morgan is now accepting some altcoins for savings and that made me think if cryptocurrency will be adopted today. Nevertheless, after the pandemic or any time in the future surely it will still be in control of someone who will govern the value and usage of cryptocurrency.
