Decentralization of domain names

Internet is decentralized. No one can control it. But domain names come from by ICANN, right? Couldn't they manage them without your permission?

Internet isn't actually decentralized, it is just looks like that. There are certain amount of domain prefixes which are in control by the networks, regulatory bodies and governments. at this time domains cannot be decentralized as they are property. However, it makes sense to work on a project for a decentralized web addresses.

I think one example of it could be the Kim Dotcom case.

Bitcoin is decentralized but uses the internet.

 

Yes but that doesn't mean that bitcoin is centralized.

The technology behind and its consensus algorithm makes it decentralized.

I don't know much about Tor web, but isn't it the Internet 2? That is decentralized?
