Ledger Nano S Package Review

Today, I just received my first ever Hardware Wallet which is Ledger Nano S and I am quite excited to set this up and learn from doing this. I just remember before that there was an incident regarding the loss of bitcoin in an exchange here in local and it is quite alarming for people who are holding a large sum of their money in an exchange wallet whereas they do not hold their own private keys.

Just want to remind everyone again na if you are not holding your keys your are not holding your coins. Ito lang din naman kasi yung linyang maririnig niyo kahit sino dito sa forum especially from @mk4. See his pinned post below.

Well this post is actually not a review but a reminder for everyone na as soon as possible have your own keys! Sabihin ko lang din yung laman ng box.

As for the delivery, umorder ako noong May 13, 2020 and ngayon lang dumating even though the estimated date on their real-time tracking network is yesterday May 21, 2020. Nadelay due to some restriction from our area, maybe because we have still an ongoing  quarantine. I also wanted to mention that the DHL support is very attentive to their customers, mabilis lang yung response nila sa email when I sent them notice kung bakit na delay ung parcel.

I can't wait to have that one bro! But right now, umaasa lang ako kay metamask at electrum. This is a good way to persuade us to buy hardware wallet. Since sa mga custodial wallet, ika nga ni sir mk4 ay hindi safe. If we don't hold the keys, we never hold our funds also.

Only buy from the official store as much as possible to prevent unnecessary problems(kahit na malabo magkaproblema, panigurado lang. remember, potentially malaking pera ung wallet na ihohold ng keys ng Ledger device mo).

@Maus0728 at @cryptoaddictchie out of curiosity lang yung na-receive nyo ba yung package niyo (box and product itself) intact pa din sya and parang hindi na-tamper? Kasi from what I know lahat ng imports ay ini-inspect ng customs natin at alam naman natin na hindi masyadaong trusted ang customs officials natin sa mga ganitong bagay. Ito yung isa sa mga biggest gripes ko when it comes to buying internationally lalong lalo na kung electronic device kasi takaw mata, di ko din mapag-kakatiwalaan yung mga nagbebenta dito locally kasi hindi naman sila official retailers ng ledger so yung nakikita kong tanging choice ko nalang is maghintay ng kamag-anak sa US na uuwi dito sa Pilipinas which right now na postpone yung plano nila dahil na nga sa pandemic.

Hello mate yung whole package niya na whitebox may balot pa siya ng clear plastic usually almost same pagbumibili ka ng brand new cellphone na may plastic or yung mga food na naka styro na nakasealed ganun yung gamit nila. Sealed and very well intact siya. Yung pinaglagyan naman niya is parang same ng plastic ng lbc na naka tapped din na alam mo kung natampered or hindi kasu ang gamit nila is yung parang sa mga letter na ipangdidikit ( not sure tawag dun) for me ayos yung safety ng product.

Siguro kung walang plastic yung box of ledger yun magdududa na ko kasi madlaing iopen yun package kung wala nun eh.

So far for me okay naman siya for me mate. Sayo ba @Maus0728 dapat ganun din. Hindi puwedeng walang plastic wrap yung box.

Personally, I have ordered Ledger devices siguro 4 times na, every single package was still in it's plastic packaging. Buksan man nila, not sure what they could do with it in the first place. The likeliness na may magagawa ung mga tao sa customs sa device mo is too low na di na siguro dapat natin pansinin. And kung may magawa man silang hindi maganda to potentially steal your funds, ang Ledger ay may genuine check software so may extra layer of security there. But yea, kung gusto mo talaga ng extra safety(which is definitely not bad), It'd be better kung idaan mo nalang talaga sa kamag anak.

I'm still uneasy about this one kasi if iisipin mo madali lang i-repack yung mga boxes ng mga gadgets using plastic at blow dryer hindi mo mahahalata yung original sealed plastic nya sa hindi, ito din ginagamit ng mga scammer sa Lazada at Shopee na nagpapalit ng cellphone sa sabon para pag-binalik nila yung cellphone for refund mukhang hindi pa nabubuksan yung package. Yung isa pa sa pinag-aalangan ko is from what I know walang mga tamper seals yung boxes ng ledger nano kaya dapat mag-rerely talaga tayo sa security software built-in sa hardware wallet nila.

Yes I know about their software security sa mga hardware wallets nila pero I'm still not confident about shipping and ayaw ko mag-rely sa security lang ng ledger nano kasi pwede ito maging unsecure sa oras na may makitang vulnerability yung mga hackers. Sa akin point of view lang naman it's better to wait as well as be safe rather than sorry, so bale hihintayin ko nalang yung mga uuwi kong kamag-ank.

Almost 8 days din pala parang delivery lang sa shopee, diba galing foreign ang ledger? kasi sobrang bilis naman, nagbabalak rin ako bumili if ever na makaipon ulit. Sayang nga kasi nag-sale pala siya recently, kaso inactive ako kaya di ako informed.

Okay rin ito if ever man na may bibili rin, magsabay sabay nalang para iisang shipping fee nalang din. Kapag bumili ka ng tatlong pirasa sa halagang 2,700 pesos, 8.1k pesos ang total. Pero kapag itong promo na ito, mas okay kung tatlo kayo dahil makaka-save ng 200 pesos each. Inform niyo nalang ako if ever na may gusto din bumili, mas prefer na kakilala para no hassle sa transaction. If wala, maghihintay nalang ako ng another promo na isa lang.

Same as with everyone else. Nareceive ko yung whole package na nakalagay sa paper bag ng DHL which I think good naman kasi sealed ng adhesive. As for the actual product, I received the the package with a plastic wrap similar sa packaging when you are buying brand new phone s market which I think okay naman kasi kung nag unwrap yung custom ng package, mabilis mong manonotice yun kasi may crease na yung plastic.

Saka isa pa may guide naman sa official store ng Ledger na dapat kumpleto yung content ng box at dapat may "Welcome". So far, pasok naman yung mga nasabing criteria nung nareceive at nag setup ako.

Yung isa pa sa pinag-aalangan ko is from what I know walang mga tamper seals yung boxes ng ledger nano kaya dapat mag-rerely talaga tayo sa security software built-in sa hardware wallet nila.

Anti tamper seals
Ledger deliberately chooses not to use anti tamper seals on its packaging. These seals are easy to counterfeit and can therefore be misleading. Rather, genuine Ledger devices contain a secure chip that prevents physical tampering: this provides stronger security than any sticker possibly could.
