What do you mean by "hack bitcoin"? If you mean it is about the 51% replay attack, the short answer is it is possible. Most of biggest bitcoin mining pools are located in China mainland. However it is only the short answer.

Chinese government acts like a dictator so they can almost do anything they want in their nation but the fact is they recently emphasized about their ambitions to build up a good blockchain-based industry so it will be odd if they take over bitcoin network and do replay attacks. Bitcoin is decentralized and publicly for all globally so if there are anthing wrong in China, and come from Chinese government, their reputation will be destroyed more. It is not what they want to have after so many offensive activities on them globally.

The world nowadays is much different than 10 years ago so the government will not be able to hide and cover all of their shit shady actions (if they do that).

Firstly, I have no idea how Bitcoin entered the scene between the war between those two countries. Secondly, define what you mean by "hack". The 51% attack is possible yes, but most likely would not happen. Other than that, I'm pretty sure it's close to impossible for BTC to be hacked. That is unless China hides their own quantum tech. Also, the Chinese government hates(or at least has negative sentiments with regards to it) Bitcoin, hence they themselves pronouncing their very intentions to adopt blockchain technology in their country and the production of their very own cryptocurrency or the so-called digital yuan.

What will be the motivation of China to do that? I think attacking Bitcoin Network won't benefit them at all.

If they want to get more bitcoin, then it's useless because people will sell their bitcoin immediately if an attack like that happens. But if they just want to mess up the network, what is the benefit for them?

-snip-
The world nowadays is much different than 10 years ago so the government will not be able to hide and cover all of their shit shady actions (if they do that).
I'm not really sure about that, even we still don't know for sure about where the coronavirus came from. At least I still haven't found a journal/legit source that states that clearly and it will be very helpful if you tell me if there is.

1.A war between China and USA will never happen. They are both too dependent of each other.
2.If such war happens,Bitcoin would be the last thing China would care for.
Bitcoin is still too small and taking control over the Bitcoin Core blockchain won't damage the US economy at all.
The only people and businesses that are about to be damaged by this move would be the Chinese mining farms and the Chinese companies that produce and sell mining hardware.

A 51% attack on Bitcoin is possible since China owns most of the mining pools right now but I don't think that they will get any benefits from it.

Instead of doing it, they will just let Bitcoin be. I don't think that Bitcoin can be hacked right now but who knows in the next decades Cheesy. One thing more is that US and China are somewhat fighting with each other right now but I don't think that it will start a new war between them. Anyway, lets just hope that it will not happen or it could start the 3rd World War. :X

You did consider WW3 as a factor but not a threat, if ever two superpowers would go to war at each other then, data mining and bitcoin would be out of question because that war will ensure total mutual destruction and what happens when they both use their nuclear capabilities, the whole world will feel the impact and there will be electro magnetic pulse that will cause the disruption plus the fireball and the raditation after that, full scale war will remove the worth of many things and that includes cryptocurrency, in my opinion China would do that to buy off allies that will help them, in a war of attrition I do not know who will when but let's hope that it will never ever happen.

That's right, if there was a war between China and the United States, it would actually mean the beginning of World War 3, in which there would be hardly any winners given the types of weapons that the two countries possess today. Bitcoin would become quite irrelevant in the event of a world war, people would save lives and the internet would become inaccessible to many.

However, a world-wide war is very unlikely, because it costs a lot, has extremely destructive consequences for the economy and society, and given nuclear weapons, it would probably take us back to the Stone Age. I think the world’s superpowers have a much more important job this summer than the war, and saving the economy is currently the number one task.

AFAIK those mining pools are only technically located in China but the govt doesn't control them. Pretty sure if something goes awry then those farms will prolly find a new place to mind in peace.

I don't see how these two are connected. Why going to war has anything to do with a 51% attack? While the latter is theoretically possible (but it's so costly and would have such disastrous effects on economy that I don't think anyone will ever attempt that), it can happen without the war with the US. And speaking of the war, I am more than sure it won't happen. The war needs resources, and the world is getting into the global economic crisis right now. Not to mention how the pandemic could play out with armies moving around. And some said it would go nuclear, but it's also not necessary. While they both possess the means, they also understand the outcome of using those means. So even in case of a war I don't think there's a big chance of nuclear missiles being used.

This doesn't make any sense. War between China and US and Bitcoin, how is this all even connected? It isn't.
First of all I don't see a reason for war between China and US and despite rather bad relations between these two countries, wars don't start so.easy and something like that would probably turn into world war.
Also, Bitcoin doesn't have any relevance in regulations between these two countries so I can't see the point.

I think you mean 51% attack here. And why would they do that though? Just because they are at war with US? doesn't makes any sense at all, what will they get on crippling the market in short amount of time? Do you think that by attacking bitcoin they will win the war? It's not bitcoin that they are at war with, it's US. So I doubt that they will do a 51% attack, they should save that money because it will cost them millions if they attempted such attack.

War doesn't have any connection with bitcoin. Both are different thing. But Chinese domaince 51% of mining pools, so they can drop bitcoin price but that wouldn't going to benefit for them, rather that would be harmful for their economy

Will you still think about that?
Ain't making a bunker the first thing you should be thinking about instead of having deep thoughts about crypto currencies?

Hacking bitcoin?
I doubt that.
When you are at war, you get a weapon. Not a keyboard.
Or is this a discussion about "keyboard warriors"?  Grin

Coming from a simple person's point of view, I don't think that can be possible. However, this can be interesting to think about and if one day China can do that then that can be the doom of Bitcoin. Anyway, I do not believe that there will be a real war between USA and China as both countries may find it a big losing battle to both sides doing it...eventually these two giants will settle their difference behind the lights of the cameras.

In my view nobody can hack the bitcoin blockchain since it's fairly distributed and nobody owns it so it's not possible for anyone to hack it. In case of such global war, btc can continue to exist.

The war between China and US are economical. As US tries to marginalize China, it is trying to create it's own economic bloc. China won't go with a full fledged war against US cause it knows it can't win over US military. And in case of US attacking China, China would want to prove it to be the right one, an attack on bitcoin would be against it's image correction strategy. And also if more than 50% of mining power is coming from pools from China, it doesn't mean Chinese government owns them all.

Yes, that is true. But if the war gives impact to everything we have, then that could have a connection with bitcoin. Imagine if that war destroys everything, including internet connection or communication in all countries, I am sure that will give impact too with bitcoin. Bitcoin or cryptocurrency will not work well because we cannot connect to the network or use bitcoin and the other coin.

I don't think that they will drop bitcoin price if that war happens, but that could be possible if they know where is the mining pools locate so they can destroy or eliminate the company. That is only a scenario which we don't know if that will happen or not, but we need to prepare for anything that might occur later.

IF war with China should happen this summer with the UNited States,,, could China hack Bitcoin if it had to regardless of cost?

Lol, To much netflix could create fantasy so better minimize watching that since in real life there's no one will notice on bitcoin since if you look on current situation even if there's no war still we can see it unnoticed by many chines and american, only the techie or people who always stay on internet notice this so it's impossible for your claims to happen since no one can hack the bitcoins itself. Maybe the war will make bitcoins price go cheaper but still no one can control this even if the war happens.

This doesn't make any sense. War between China and US and Bitcoin, how is this all even connected? It isn't.
It will make sense if we only talk about the two countries dispute but adding bitcoin in between? Meh.
First of all I don't see a reason for war between China and US and despite rather bad relations between these two countries, wars don't start so.easy and something like that would probably turn into world war.
Also, Bitcoin doesn't have any relevance in regulations between these two countries so I can't see the point.
What these countries are conflicting about is all on their economy, USA as the world's largest economy by GDP is such a huge advantage of them and they would not let that be on China's hand. On the other side China is world's largest producer which is the best competitor in the world that's why Trump is creating trade barriers. Even though the USA is a wealthy country, I don't think they will be still an independent country in the future.
