I am looking for companies that will solely pay wages in bitcoin.
I went to Google and most of the companies on a very small list are now defunct and do not do this.

You're going to have to give us more info than that, what are you? A blockchain dev, marketing or admin.... And where are you, some companies employ exclusively based on location.

The first question for you is the same as what @jackg asked you. The second question, after finding them, what do you want to do? Applying a job for them? FYI, actually there have been some countries that legalize the payment salary using Bitcoin such as New Zealand (as the 1st country legalizing), Japan, and others. However, Bitcoin is one of the payments used for salary, mostly not the only payment method to be used. If the companies are blockchain and crypto-based companies, they may offer the employees with BTC or other cryptos. They are such as: - QuadrigaCX Bitcoin Exchange
- blockchain.info (proof)
- BitShares (proof)
- dana crowdfunding
- Fairlay - Prediction market
- Mastercoin Foundation (public ledger)
- SC5 (blog post)
- APIcoin
- Bits of Gold
- Exodus Wallet (Careers page)
And some others are likely: CoinCorner. But, for other companies, they may use it as one of the options. Why does? If the companies are not in relation with the crypto world, not all of the employers in the companies know and use BTC. Therefore, this is only one of the options. However, I also read that there are some companies that provide the salary on Bitcoin only or other cryptocurrencies (I do not know whether it has been realized or not yet because, at that time, it is still a plan). They are such as: 1. Purse.io (pay with Bitcoin Cash) 2. Coinality 3. Ethlance (pay with ETH) 4. SC5 (pay in BTC) 5. Spot.IM (pay in BTC) And many others probably. No one will hire you if you can't provide your own portfolio for the job you've done in the past. The better things to do if you are looking for Potential costumer for the service is to create an account in freelancers website that pay crypto currency. Here is the list of freelancers website that you can try if you want to get hired. https://medium.com/@cointastical/freelancing-platforms-which-pay-in-bitcoin-e38be56166df .

I am sure you can find some threads in this forum discussing the same topic. What I know is that in Japan there are some companies which are using Bitcoin instead of their local currency to pay their people. Unfortunately, there had been no momentum on this supposed trend and so the list may not be growing at all. The idea can really be attractive but it failed to get the interest of many big corporations. When an organization feel that there is no clear incentive actually to be using BTC as salary/wages then they will eventually opt to the traditional way of doing things.

All big cryptocurrency exchange do give their employees to get either paid in fiat or Bitcoin. You can look into careers page on their websites to see if any job suits your profile. Cryptocurrency based news portals also offer the same. For small gigs you can check the service announcement board, here is the link - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=84.0

Exodus is a strong growing company, pays totally in BTC and all positions are 100% remote. Not sure if your skills line up with what they're looking for but you can check out the career openings here and decide if you want to apply: https://www.exodus.io/careers/

In recent years I have read about several - mostly small - companies in Europe that have paid the salary in Bitcoin or Ethereum. I just looked up what I remember, most of them have stopped paying salaries in cryptos. Two reasons are mostly given. First, the extremely high price fluctuations. Nobody likes to have their salary paid out in a currency where the value is $ 3000 on the day of payment and only $ 2000 two weeks later. Second, a lack of regulation and problems with the tax authorities. Bitcoin is not a recognized means of payment in many countries. So far, it looks like New Zealand is the only country to regulate salary payments in Bitcoin.

All the employers (for whom I'm a contract worker now) pay in crypto only, to my knowledge. I understand that dividends for shareholders are paid out in fiat values but I imagine that's really the same deal with any normal company that has shares in a regulated jurisdiction. If you're in crypto, then it's safe to assume a crypto company probably prefers to pay in crypto -- Bitcoin alone would probably be more difficult unless employees happily take a cut from fees. But why complicate things? You can use solutions like Bitwage to get any percentage of your salary in Bitcoin -- regardless of whether your company pays in BTC or not.

I'm NOT sure this is a good idea. Completely switching to payment (especially fixed) in bitcoins is risky
I don't see any problem since OP is well aware about bitcoin and that's why he is willingly looking for bitcoin payments. What would be risk? I am assuming that you are talking about volatility of bitcoin price. But don't forget, 1 BTC is always 1 bitcoin, if you are holder anytime you may take advantage of volatility. Anyway I am not familiar for such as informative website where you will find all the crypto related jobs website. But I believe this forum would be great place for you. You may create your portfolio on service section and someone will hire you near future. Obviously you will have to prove yourself as a trusted developer before get too much works.

For companies paying in bitcoin would be the worst of a decision that could make, for what reason would they do that? to call an early adopter? There are already companies that is willing to pay in bitcoins, but for me it is not still worth it even now that the volatility of the market is very high. IF you are a holder then good for you but man you're an employee seeking for a salary would not you spend your wage to wait the bitcoin til it gets high? I don't think so. Anyway I am not familiar for such as informative website where you will find all the crypto related jobs website. But I believe this forum would be great place for you. Me either, I haven't get to touch with these kind of websites coz I don't really think they are paying their regular employees in btc.

some countries, especially in Indonesia, there are no local companies that pay their employees using Bitcoin, because the regulation of bitcoin is only for futures investment. To find companies that pay for bitcoin can refer to the online freelance platform that provides a lot of jobs that are suitable for your criteria and desires. At present FIAT or official currency is still better to be used as a payment tool for its employees, because it does not have the risk of fluctuations such as the digital currency bitcoin.

I am complete new to this but I think most of these companies that are offering remote jobs will agree to pay you in Bitcoin. My last job I got through LinkedIn was a remote job, a company in Ireland and they were paying their workers in Bitcoin. For the months I worked with them I was paid in Bitcoin only every end of the month. So, you should be looking for those jobs. You can as well check out all these cryptocurrency companies like Xapo, Exodus and others that are giving remote jobs to engineers (not only engineers, there are other jobs as well) and try your luck. They all pay in Bitcoin. I met few employers through upwork and when I demanded for bitcoin payments, they are ready. I mean people know what is bitcoins and ready to pay with bitcoins if needed. So, finding a job for bitcoins is not a big deal anymore .

Only companies that are involved in blockchain projects are going to pay you in Bitcoin. This happens because they have income paid in Bitcoin so they can pay their personnel with Bitcoin. Other companies that are making transactions in fiat are not going to be able to pay you in Bitcoin.
