It's unfortunate that people use those 'tools' to scam more easily, but this has been discussed a lot in the past and nothing ever came from it. While this would help with exposing scammers more easily, it's also something that would affect legitimate sellers/buyers. If you can't self-moderate your thread, you can get attacked by competitors or trolls and there won't be anything you can do about it. I don't think this is going to change. The responsibility of doing research and not getting scammed is still on the user.

next problem becomes verification of scam before it happens, which is 100% unconfirmed, and scammers will create more accounts.

Yeah, there are pros and cons to it. Usually self-modded and locked threads are a big warning sign anyway so people should take that into consideration from new or low-ranked accounts and use caution with them, but I also think people should be able to self-moderate their threads how they want and to remove shit posters or trolls if they deem necessary. If people are abusing the self-mod feature to stifle criticism or caution then that should be a Reputation or Scam Accusation issue and people should go about it that way. If obvious scammers are doing it then just leave appropriate feedback to warn others.

I self mod almost every thread I make in every section.

If I delete a person I quote it and say why I delete it.

If I am doing a sale I keep the thread open and modded.

Once sale is done I lock it.

As A trusted person I can only say it is not fair to harass trusted sellers.

Happens often enough I went to the self modded method.

Personally I think it needs to be restricted to junior members and up.

I am OK with self-moderated threads created by any member who don't have valid negative feedback on his profile. But I don't like to see locked threads that get bumped daily, and are obviously active, but OPs lock them as soon as they get bumped. Considering that admins don't get involved in such matters as deciding who should be allowed to do something and who shouldn't, I see very little room for any improvements.

I'm 50/50 on that though. Whilst I probably would lean towards restricting it to Newbs and Juniors it could also be then abused by existing users selling the same or similar things trying to sales trash their competition. I would admit though the ratio of older/existing users sales-trashing would be dwarfed by new users trying to scam. Guess weight the pros with the cons but theymos is usually against implementing more restrictions in most cases but at least this doesn't hinder users to post, just self-moderate and maybe you could argue they need to earn that right.

There's a workaround:

In regards to competitors:

• If there's a certain issue, I believe there's always a chance for proving others wrong.
• If the issue is hijacking threads, "Report to moderator" button is your friend.

• Since it's against the rules, vareole can report such posts.

In regards to trolls:

Reporting doesn’t always work like this. The forum doesn’t censor criticism and people calling you out when there is no way of telling if you are trolling or really being honest. When to draw the line? Report everyone that posts something bad about your product?

We also get to see obvious trolls every day in the Reputation and Meta board, and their posts rarely get deleted.

I have seen a lot of self-moderated and locked threads in this section. I wonder why is it not restricted there?

I opened a similar topic back in January, about locked topics of users selling Bitmain coupons. Obviously, they were scammers.

I advise you to avoid such locked topics. Moderated topics are fine, as if spammers appear, OP can delete their posts. And you can see all the deleted posts using LoyceV's tool. But those saying they're selling something in locked topics are mostly scammers.
