Mainnet means a project is ready to use their own network or blockchain, majority of the projects in raise through ICO and it's easy for them to create tokens for sale under the ETH network, but as the development matured they create their own network.

some of the successful projects that runs in their own network now are Binance and TRON, I have invested in these projects prior the mainet and I can say I'm one of the lucky investors who enjoyed a decent profit.  

The impact usually is the price will increase due to the hype, but provided it's a popular project.

And to add, there will be increase if they have really good use case in the market. Even if the platform is very noble but getting users is hard, I don't think they will perform good in the market. The use case should be usable by many even non crypto users. In that way, they will create demand for the coin, thus, be valuable in the market.

Mainnet came from the word "Main Network" this is the simplest explanation. I guess you understand it already now. The impact of a project having a Mainnet launch is usually good. Some projects spike in price when announcing mainnet launch. It shows that they are really serious about their goal and not just tokens on other networks. --

This is indeed a moment that is always waiting. Especially if the project is good. More and more new users register and use the product, it will enlarge the community. If the products are well integrated, it can increase the demand for the available tokens or coins, so that it can have a positive effect on prices.

If the project completed the mainnet, it means that it is a good and successful project. They have worked hard and created the foundation for their own project. I personally always choose to invest in projects that already have the mainnet because it marks their long-term existence and development.

You mean price pump because of Mainnet? Well it happens like that for some projects but most times Mainnet has no positive impact on price value, any projects that make it to launching Mainnet means the team consist of serious members

It's like trying to put Mainnet and use case head to head, we all know for sure that use case will win, why would you want to invest in a coin because of Mainnet? Mainnet has no big impact on project unless it's already a big one, top ten on coinmarketcap maybe? Don't expect this to drive up value, you will be disappointed

Exactly my point! I am bagholding some coins like ONZ and Bitcoinwhite (later Bitwhite) which started out with their own mainnet at launch of the project. Sadly, nothing good came out of those projects. They just died naturally after listing on some low volume exchanges. If they had use cases they would've survived. Utility comes ahead of mainnet, in my opinion.

In testnet developers will be busy trying to make the project gets all the necessary upgrades to become a whole blockchain, meaning the project is still in testing mode, when everything is ready without bugs then the door is opened for Mainnet to be released, Mainnet equals perfected blockchain project, nothing big here

Mainnet is what most developers wanted to achieved creating their own network to work with every transactions that
 they will performed.It's far better to use your own
network instead of using other blockchain system, the good example which already being mentioned are both Binance coin
and TRX coin after using ETH chain they already
 introduce their own mainnet and now enjoying all the transactions without needing to use ETH network and pay
for the gas. Impact always positive since the team
 will enjoy the applied fees to continue improving their system, while with the community it gains more engagement
since they will be working inside the project without
 any influenced of other project.

In Layman's terms, there are basically two versions of a launch. A testnet and a mainnet.
A testnet is when the project is in testing phase.
A mainnet is when the project is officially released to the public.

So if the project has gone mainnet then it has been released officially for public use and you should be able to use it.

OP I hope you aren't expecting price pump because of Mainnet? If that's what you have in mind you need to quit now, many projects that launch Mainnet failed to surge in value, only few projects appreciate a bit and still go down few days later, it's not worth it

Mainnet is what every project is looking for, New projects treat the mainnet as a milestone marking the success of a project. If a project successfully implemented the mainnet, they will get the attention of many investors and their project will be easier to develop than before.
