I thought he will be fighting crawford a much younger boxer but i guess there's no merit for him in those fighters as they're only rising stars.
Golovkin is a perfect match and it might trigger floyd to come out of hiding, if that is his main goal.

And I thought it would be Mikey Garcia.

Mikey Garcia, Spence, or Crawford, this is the front runner for a Pacquiao sweepstakes. So we really don't  know how Golovkin's name came into picture.

We've been talking here about it and we thought that if Manny could fight Garcia, Manny would clapped Mikey Garcia. I am not belittling Garcia, it is just that it is clear that Manny could KO this boxer. In terms of Golovkin, I think this would be a fight just like Margarito where Manny would be fighting another fighter with height advantage against him.

Pacquaio for most of his career, specially when he move up to the Welterweight division has been fighting taller guys. So I guess we can say that he is comfortable is that zone. However, GGG is a natural 160-168 lbs, so not just height but weight advantage. Manny's camp should not take this, there are more bigger fish to fry in the Welterweight division.

Let's do the math here:

>>Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De la Hoya

The fight was for the regular welterweight division (147 lbs) but Oscar is just 145 lbs during the weigh-in and Manny was at 142 lbs. It was very visually notable also that Oscar did not re-hydrate after the weigh in and Manny was the bigger fighter come fight night. Manny was 29 years old then and Oscar was 35, plus the fact that Roach once trained Oscar and the former quoted "Oscar can't pull the trigger anymore" thus making this fight on Manny's advantage when the two climbed the ring.

>>Manny Pacquiao vs Antonio Margarito

The fight was for the WBC Super Welterweight championship (154 lbs) but in a 150 lbs catch weight. Margarito was 32 years old and Manny was 31, not a factor on this fight but the 150 lbs catch weight really was a factor.

>>Manny Pacquiao vs Golovkin (Proposed)

Manny Pacquiao is campaigning at 147 lbs while GGG at 160 lbs. Manny is 41 years old and GGG is 38. Both fighters are on a downhill of their career.

IMO, even if the fight will take place at 154 lbs, Manny would still lose as GGG will be too big for him though a little slower than Manny but he is a heavy puncher and a single punch from him would slow down Manny. I'm a Pacman fan and personally i don't want this fight to happen as this would damage Manny's health.

On the other hand, i think this is just a hype so Manny's name will be talked about in the boxing world but the real target opponent of Team Pacman is Mickey Garcia.  Smiley

GGG is definitely not the "best out there" as Roach portrays him, not anymore at least. As a matter of fact, his performance lately has showed that he has indeed aged.

Manny has a higher chance to win against a bigger opponent in GGG at the latter's age.

But I don't think this match possibility has even reached the party of GGG yet. This is more of a speculation right now. For a long time, GGG has chased Canelo. He's gotten old but he didn't forget that he has yet to finish his business with him. He still wants to get that chance for a revenge.

The GGG-Canelo trilogy was actually already agreed between parties, and was hoped to be staged on Sept. 12. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5233606.0

I'm one of those who voted that GGG will win. I'm a big Manny Pacquaio fan, but here is my reasoning.

First, GGG is too big for Pacquiao as Manny says. He fought Margarito at a catch-weight, and then Margarito rehydrated to 170++ lbs if my memory serves me right. And for me that fight really 'soften' Manny. He received a lot of body punches that time and Manny admitted that he was really hurt during that rounds. So think of GGG, one of the best body punchers out there could do to Manny.

Second, Pacquaio is almost on the downside of his career. It's hard to accept that fact but sooner or later he will face a boxer that could retire him and it's possible that it could be GGG.

Not unless that Roach saw something in GGG that he seen from Oscar, "he can't pull the trigger anymore". But I think GGG still has something in his tank.

Manny still has it and many people believe that, a ninth title is possible but GGG is not Margarito who catch all punches in his face he is a counter puncher and a big puncher I prefer them to fight not in the middle weight where Golovkin is dangerous a catch weight is good like the super welterweight or light middleweight, the additional weight could slow down Manny.

If this is a prime Pacquiao, I could see him and win against Golovkin. But at the current version of Manny? No, he will take more damage from the Margarito fight and could end up being knock out in the mid to later rounds.

We all love Pacquiao because of his aggressive style but Golovkin is too big for him and he can't even make 160 lbs. And if this fight happens on a catch weight, and Manny wins, detractors will say that he win because Golovkin is weight drain. So this is not a good option for Manny today. He should chase bigger names in 147 lbs like Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.

If this match will ever push thru, it will be an exciting fight to watch.
And if in case Pacquiao wins, then, he again breaks all those hesitations in the boxing world towards him.
So when will we know if this fight will gonna happen?
Gonna be interesting if they truly push this match...
People are still rooting for Pacquiao here based on the poll.

Definitely, it will be an exciting fight to watch. That is a big "IF", but as I have said, this is a lose-lose situation for Manny, catch weight fight, fighting when Golovkin is already on the downhill. Again, no question about it we all love Manny here, but this is not for his best interest, specially health wise as GGG is not a regular fighter, Manny might seriously get hurt here. Let Golovkin finish his trilogy with Canelo and let Pacquiao fight the best of 147 division. No need for them to cross path, specially at this point of their careers. And after his win against the biggest guy he fought in Antonio Margarito:

Quote
Pacquiao's take: "This was my most physical and punishing fight. Antonio Margarito had such a reach and weight advantage over me. My ribs ached for a long time after that fight. Once was enough for me at that weight. When I was asked if I wanted to defend [the title] I said, 'No thanks!' That was the fight where I had reached my limit in terms of weight class. I fought a very good fight and the atmosphere at Cowboys Stadium was so memorable. I do think the fight should have been stopped. Margarito took a lot of punishment."

You cant really say he hasnt something on his tank and with this kind of stats?

Do you really think that we would see him without giving a fight? With that KO percentage 83.33%
I would say that this shouldnt really be taken easily by Pacquiao and also he should be ready on
strengthening his lower body even more as we can see with one of GG explosives which are mostly on
solid body shots.

Would this man cut himself some slack. I mean, do he even know how to take a rest LOL or do he just love fighting that much.

I agree, man. Am not trying to drag down Pacman here. But he's aging and showed that he slowed down. Manny might be good for first few rounds but as the match up goes on he might not be able to take up with GGG.

Upon his last fight with Keith. If Manny didn't knocked down Keith from the early down, he possibly won't win there. As I see Keith took up the next few rounds there. What I am tryin' to point out here, Manny isn't the typical Manny who can go all out, all in 12 rounds. Simply because he's old, that's it.

Looking around some updates with Manny, well, I stumble upon Bob Arum's wish here. And it seems more realistic than Pacquaio vs Golovkin. But whatever, Pacquaio shouldn't take the fight whoever between the two.

GGG has slowed, I noticed the same but Manny looks like a young Manny who can beat a younger and stronger fighter than him, that is because of his technique in boxing, also, his experience and being the only 8th division world champion made his confidence to boost high, and no opponent that he will not agree to fight with. GGG is big, but Manny has been fighting big opponents in his career.

The GGG-Canelo trilogy was actually already agreed between parties, and was hoped to be staged on Sept. 12. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5233606.0

But would this be more interesting than the Manny vs GGG fight? I mean I believe GGG vs Manny would generate more money for both.

I like the GGG vs Manny fight, this is better than the Canelo vs GGG IMHO since people have already seen them fight before but this is a new one, Manny is looking for another history, this will hype people and as we can see when Manny fight, he has a lot for fans in the ring, and I agree with you that this will generate more money for both, good for a boxer who might retire after this fight.

GGG is not too much for Manny. He is bigger of course but I believe Manny can handle him pretty well.

Coach Freddie would not be considering this fight in the first place if he believes his fighter does not have a chance.

Manny is already the greatest boxer of all time. No other boxer in the whole history of the sport has ever been an 8-division world champion.

If the fight would happen, that would be a great fight, this is the best time for Manny Pacquiao to show his strength to everyone even though he is already 41 years old, he is still great at boxing, he strength of his left arm is still the same as before and the speed is somehow the same as before, that is why Manny Pacquiao is really great boxing. I am also in Philippine so I would support him instead of Golovkin, I don't know much somethings about the opponent of the Manny but I think it would be still great because it's a fight of Manny. It is always interesting to watch Pacquiao, aside from being a humble boxer, he is really a good person, he helps so many people here during the lockdown.

Yes, Mane is getting old, but he's still a strong opponent, and he's going to try to hit his opponent with all force to drop him for the ninth title!!
The prospect of who wins in the confrontation remains difficult because GGV has a desire to win the title too.
Grin I will place my bet for ggv.

Nice to see one poster already voted for GGV, I voted for Manny because he is my favorite fighter, I know GGV is good but I like the strategy of Manny in the ring, this time he is facing a fighter who is not already in his prime, so I guess Manny will win convincingly here compared to his last fight.

Yes, I noticed the majority referring to Manny, Given the historical record of Boxer Manny We will really find that it is superior to ggg!!op  But this strong fight I do not know if it is possible for Manny to withstand the missiles that will be directed by  golovkin  Wink

Read the article shared by the OP first mate before joining the conversation.

For your convenience, here's what Freddie Roach said:

One thing about Manny: He doesn't just want to beat anybody, he wants to beat the best out there. He wants to fight the top guys. I like that fight [versus potential next opponent Mikey Garcia],” said Roach on DAZN's "Boxing with Chris Mannix.”

“But the thing is, Manny might want to go a little bit higher and fight GGG or one of those guys who’s supposed to be the best. I would not advise him to go to 160 pounds, no. That would be a little crazy. But putting him at 147 was a risk at one time … and it worked out really good for us."

~
GGG has slowed, I noticed the same but Manny looks like a young Manny who can beat a younger and stronger fighter than him, that is because of his technique in boxing, also, his experience and being the only 8th division world champion made his confidence to boost high, and no opponent that he will not agree to fight with. GGG is big, but Manny has been fighting big opponents in his career.
Yeah, Manny had some renaissance lately but let's not also forget that he's going to fight at 160 and at an older age now. Maybe he could still handle punches of his opponents at a lower weight class but we can't say the same for guys who are naturally fighting at 160.

I read this news today.

What do you think about this fight, Manny seems like to break his current record to be the ninth division champion.

At the age of 41, Roach said Pacquiao could be eyeing a title in a record ninth division against one of boxing’s all-time great middleweights.

If this fight happen, who is your bet?

I do not know that Manny the people's champ will fight again. I thought, Manny will apready stop fighting but anyway whatever happens, I go with Manny. I still believe that even though his age is going to be any younger, he can still win it. He has a good strategy, just hoping that he will be in a very good condition when he fight again.

He just sign a contract with a new promoter, PBC, we don't know the details yet, but I think the minimum should be a 3 fight contract. He just had one, winning against Thurman, so probably we will see him fight 2 more times.

It's more of a strategy, Manny is a champion, he has tons of experience, he is a warrior, he trains very hard to have a good condition. He just defeated a young champion in Thurman, so no doubt that he can still fight. But his chances are slim against GGG because Gennady is a powerful boxer and too big for Manny.

We dont know if he's still maintaining his shape until up to these days because it seems he's been to busy with his job as a senator and we
know the disadvantage when a boxer doesnt really maintain up its form.He bet up previous opponents even he's on the government position
though which proves out that he can handle it well but if he tries to fight GGG then he shouldnt really be that too confident. This guy is also
a heavy puncher but somehow this one is lacking speed compare to his but lets see on how this one would play out.

^ Probably he is because as I had to know Manny Pacquiao is very serious about his career. It means when its time to his career he become focused on the training and I think that makes his self-discipline and until he can maintain to take care of his built. At the present age of Manny Pacquaio, he can still fight like a teenager and speaking to that his age, I remember this line somewhere in the article and I did not remember where it is. He said, “I’m not thinking about my age, I’m just thinking about what I can do for the fans".

As long theres a fight that would be arranged then he wont really refuse such offer because we know that this one talks about money.
Theres no doubt on Pacquiao capacity yet he had proven out that he's a Legendary boxer that can take whatever kind of opponent he has.
Climbing up on another division? this wont really be that easy and we dont know if this fight would make him retire in case he would
lost this fight from Golovkin. If not then expect for future fights to happen.
