Ledger water resistant backup paper

It looks like Ledger has something for us to improve the resiliency of our paper back up. Too bad! I bought my hardware wallet at an early date  .

Don't think it is simple water resistant paper, that anyone can easily create at home.

And I think it could be something like that, because they say clearly. "paper soon no more". However, I hope that they will not put any unrealistic price, and that it will not be some cheap materials that are not actually resistant to fire, water or chemicals.

I found one interesting comment, someone posted a link to StoneBook, it is a pity that it is not fire resistant

According to https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=79247520&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=documentSearch, Ledger had the final patent approval granted for a device called "Ledger Eternity" just last week.

A quick poke around their website found this page, which was uploaded at some point in the last 48 hours but is not yet linked to or visible on their webshop: https://shop.ledger.com/products/ledger-eternity

They haven't uploaded anything in the way of technical details or specifications yet, but from the pictures it looks like your run-of-the-mill metal storage - letters on individual tiles which you place in to a template, which is then secured with a couple of small screws. As we know from Jameson Lopp's stress test series (https://jlopp.github.io/metal-bitcoin-storage-reviews/), devices like this generally perform very poorly. Unless they are bringing something new to the market that isn't already available in 10+ other almost identical devices, I wouldn't be getting too excited about this.

Just what I expected to see (like I said in my previous post).
Trezor will probably do the same thing soon, and Jamesin Lopp can then do few more of his deadly tests on them

Quality materials also mean a relatively high price, and in this case it might mean that a device like this would cost more than, say, the Ledger Nano X. So it is very likely that it will be an aluminum again, and yet perhaps Ledger surprises us with some better material. Either way, given all the tests we've seen - it's still safer to stamp letters in metal than to use a model like this, where letters can fall out of the bearing due to various external influences.

It's the design that is the issue here more than the materials. The copper engraving or stamping plates all withstand Lopp's stress testing way better than the "tiles in a holder" designs. Copper actually has a lower yield strength than most aluminum alloys, meaning it will perform worse under pressure testing. However, a plate that has been engraved can be almost folded in half without any loss of information, whereas a bend of only a few degrees is enough for all the tiles to come loose.

A titanium plate would undoubtedly perform better as you say, but would likely be prohibitively expensive for such a design.

There wasn't much there to begin with. Other than the picture I posted, there were a couple more pictures from alternative angles, but they were of very low resolution (probably around 200x200 pixels), so I didn't bother to save them. There was absolutely nothing in the way of text or specifications. I guess it was uploaded by mistake.
