Does anybody know of any good ETH forks worth investing these days? I've previously invested into Expanse, only to lose a substantial amount of money because of the ever-decreasing prices on the market. I have some ETC left after the hard fork on 2016, but I'm tempted to sell it in exchange for other smart contract platforms with greater tech and features. While TRON and EOS are not ETH forks, they certainly look like a better option than ETH-based forks for long term investing.

Still, I'm on the hunt for good ETH forks that are popular in the mainstream world today. I plan to invest a little into each fork for diversification. If anyone knows a list of good ETH forks, please let me know. Any suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Smiley

I won't suggest you a ETH fork as all of them are useless. Though ETH itself is a fork from ETC, they have become the largest utility coin.
Every other ETH fork after that are just a gimmick to gain popularity. And good developers have stopped forking coins.
If you want competitors for ETH, new chains like Cardano, EOS and to some extent Tron could be a good option.

AFAIK if ETC is the only fork of ethereum, other than it can be considered as a new smartcontract platform. It looks like there was no choice of other than ETC. Isn't it better to put it all into the new coin with new tech? my choice was tezos.

ETH has tons of forks but ETC is the only one that you should invest in rest all are either dead or scam.
But I would suggest not to invest in any forks right now 'coz with the rumour of ETH 2.0 we might see a good movement on ethereum.

1. Not all Eth Fork are useless
2. Ethereum is not a fork from ETC, you got it all wrong, Ethereum Classic is the fork from ethereum.
3. Ethereum Classic (ETC) is good enough for OP to consider, we also have DAO which is another excellent fork of Ethereum

AFAIK if ETC is the only fork of ethereum
Actually when I'm new to cryptos I have thought of this as well. But after someone corrected me and after reading some insightful materials to support the statement.
ETH is the actual fork which means ETC was the original but ETH is the known and widely supported by us.

The Ethereum community was in an uproar. The developers and community came together and decided that the best course of action was to enact a fork that reverted this enormous theft. This forked chain is what became Ethereum (ETH) and the old chain, where the hack was never reversed, is Ethereum Classic (ETC).

Ethereum Classic is the only legit, well built Ethereum fork I've ever known, others are trash jobs, mostly pump and dump projects, you can consider Tezos coin too, very promising it is, it will definitely grow bigger in near future

Another good question, so I did some research and found these forks:

https://www.forks.net/list/Ethereum/

However, I never heard any of them, so I would say that there's no good ETH forks so far, and just like BTC the one and original still takes the interest of most investors.

Wait, the only one that ring a bell to me is EtherGold, but it is still way behind its previous all time high, like -60%.

OP I suggest you choose only ETC, I was rekt investing on EtherZero, that project is a very bad one and probably other Ethereum forks, the best fork of ethereum is ethereum classic, even the once highly recommended Ethergold is now way down compare to ATH

We are talking about projects that used ETH codebase with a slight change right? then you can try to read this thread:
List of Ethereum forks
Point to note, there are a lot of them in the ecosystem not limited to the list mentioned above on the link.
I think investing your money on Tomochain is not a bad idea, because it fully supports what ETH supports right now. Not to mention it also has a staking system on its network which allows its users to get passive income from holding it.

I think Tron and EOS are the right choice for long-term investment.
plus if you hold trx you will get an airdrop JST token which some time ago was announced by justin sun.
other eth forks don't look too good in the long term, it just my opinion  Grin

And you know ETC comes from ETH fork, right? that means Calisto is one of ETH fork because it uses ETH codebase as its source.
ETH fork = ETC >> ETC fork = Calisto
It is a sub-fork of ETH itself, nothing changes. We do not need to overcomplicate it.

I do not understand why you have the urge of investing in a ETH fork when ETH itself is considered as the best altcoin. If you looking for short term return then you should go for alts that have a bright future. Most forks of Ethereum have failed miserably in the market. In my opinion you should try Chainlink, great project and good team. The best thing about it is that it's price is still below $10.

By the way why do you think Tron and EOS are great for investment?

we also have DAO which is another excellent fork of Ethereum
Is it? I somehow heard of DAO but I was thinking it is kind of stablecoin or something. If DAO is fork of ethereum, we can claim free DAO if we hold ethereum at the time of forking? Honestly I never claimed any ethereum forks. Ethereum classic is existing before I own my first ethereum Roll Eyes. Could you please add some more details on this DAO as it seems worth of claiming some free etehreum if I had happened to hold some ethereum on my MEW at the time of forking.

EDIT:
Hey you told DAO an excellent fork but coinmarketcap is showing something different.
Yes, if there is only one DAO up to the date, this DAO was dead already as per coinmarketcap. Here is the direct link for DAO : https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/the-dao

Moreover, it was mentioned as token but a fork cannot be a token because it should be a mineable coin if I got the right link from google search Roll Eyes.

There are more than one hundred of forks from Bitcoin, and I am sure that the number for ETH forks are significantly bigger than 100 and they will keep increasing. That's odds and sucks.

It is a big surprise for all if one can make a thread like that one, but this time, for ETH forks. How Many Bitcoin Forks Are There? You will be surprised!!!

I haven't seen a good Ethereum fork on the market yet. It is better to join in the ERC20 token system by Ethereum than fight against it by making a completely new fork. Plenty of success in ERC20 tokens than a copy cat of Ethereum.

Here are few ethereum forks I know of
1. Ethereum Classic
2. EtherZero
3. EtherGold
4. Etheroll
5. Ethereum Cash
6. Ethereum Blue
7. Ether-1
8. Ethereum X

And many more, you need to make sure you choose right here, many of these coins aren't that good compare to top 100 altcoins on coinmarketcap, minus only ethereum classic, which I will recommend, it's your risk, goodluck

Even the Ethereum Classic respects the old chain, not changed, it can´t provide the basic blockchain needs: decentralization - there are just few developers and miners - that means that the network is not resistant against PoW attack and thanks to that sooner or later will die.

Does anybody know of any good ETH forks worth investing these days?

I don't think there are any good ETH forks.
There is a legitimate reason for ETC to exist, but that's the only one that's not just a money-grabbing scam that exploits the name of ETH.
Every ETH fork apart from ETC is pointless, offers nothing and has no use.
As for ETC - I don't think it really has a long-term future; ETH is and will remain the main version - particularly with ETH 2.0 and staking coming soon, whilst ETC remains PoW.
