Hi

I bought usd 100 worth of bitcoin in the past.
I guess about 20 years ago.
There was no bitcoin market exist at that time.
No bitcoin wallet.
They emailed me bitcoin address? and password.

I guess they were testing bitcoin in market and we can buy things in ebay with bitcoin.

I found old harddisk drive that probably has this old bitcoin.
Do you think we can still cashing out this old bitcoin?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Lol! Bitcoin existed for around 11 years now and you are claiming to have bitcoin which is 20 years old! That's either fake or strange!

Who emailed you bitcoin address and password 20 years ago? Satoshi?

If you didn't have bitcoin wallet then, how are you able to access it now?

Ebay had never accepted bitcoin till date! So I doubt you have bitcoin with you, it may be something else. Can you share some screengrabs?

Hi

Are you OK? man I already start to be afraid of this forum

No bitcoin wallet.
They emailed me bitcoin address? and password.

I guess they were testing bitcoin in market and we can buy things in ebay with bitcoin.

even the worst altcoin usually have a wallet, maybe you got confused and I don't see how they would send you an email and password. to be clear:

are you typing from planet earth?

I found old harddisk drive that probably has this old bitcoin.
Do you think we can still cashing out this old bitcoin?

it depends, if you are talking about bitcoin "that bitcoin that was created 11 years ago" and your hard drive is good and you have private keys I think you can get access to that bitcoin. But if you're talking about your bitcoin "the one that was created 20 years ago" then you can't recover

If you think this is some sort of misspelled 20 years instead of ten years ago then that's sort of a big deal for you to really find it out. Check that hard disk first if it really has the file where you got the address and the password for it (at least don't leak it here or everywhere on the net, mind me). Well, that might be the case that they are testing it like P2P trading but at that time eBay or some kind of online platforms was really not the thing especially if it's 10 years ago based on what I presume that you just misspelled it.

You can still cash out that one of you have the full control of the address and the Bitcoin inside it. 100 worth of bitcoins are almost a million dollar right now baby but if you're saying that it was from the very first year of 21st century, I will really doubt the possibility that you'll cash out those because that will be worthless, no digital money from 20 years ago are in the market by now that's in the crypto circulation. If there was really a Bitcoin address with corresponding password in the email, the possibility is you can open it on a bitcoin wallet

Haha it made me laugh honestly when I've read about 20 years ago but let's get serious and that's probably just 2 years ago or even 10 years ago. Regardless of that,

They emailed me bitcoin address? and password.
If they have emailed you a bitcoin address and a password, that wouldn't make sense because there should be a specific online bitcoin wallet that requires you a password to log in and that's what you have to know or a private key so you can access your funds through a specific wallet.

I guess they were testing bitcoin in market and we can buy things in ebay with bitcoin.

I found old harddisk drive that probably has this old bitcoin.
Do you think we can still cashing out this old bitcoin?
You can still sell it for money as long as it's the actual bitcoin that we have. You need to clarify more information about this and explore that old hard drive of yours.

Yes.. It was 2007... I guess.. not 20 years ago..
I bought it just before they open bitcoin exchange.
I did not pay attention on it because someone told me that new bitcoin system will not accept old bitcoin.
They told me that there was major change in bitcoin coding.
They emailed me address and password.
Anyone remember this ancient story?

Your posts is very confusing you discovered Bitcoin 2007 when it was still unknown after all these years, only know that you become interested on Bitcoin when there are so many news about Bitcoin, I wonder where are you located, for you not to know what's happening on Bitcoin,

Going back to you question please give us the name of the site where you buy your Bitcoin, I don't think it's 2007 because Bitcoin just started it's development stage in 2009, I think you are confuse, you should rephrase your post your $100 worth of Bitcoin that you bought is now worth a lot.

You "bought it" even before it was invented or released.
If you have address and password, you probably have an account to an online service, not a wallet. And you'll have to know what service is that from.
Now, interesting story, but honestly, whose HDD you have that info from? Maybe you can ask him remember for you where is that password from.

Lol @ 20years for btc existence ? Funny bro. Btc is barely 11 years. And sending you mail and password to access the coin from which wallet ? Maybe giving you a link to click I guess. And have you been clicking the link for the past 2 decades ?

We see scam has been around since inception of humanity.

Okay.. guys.. I don't make up this story.. please calm down..

I just want to make sure before I spend thousands of dollars for retriving data from old hdd.

If I could retrieve this so called "private key" or whatever they emailed me, I probably be able to restore old bitcoin and could cashing it out. Am I correct?

I couldn't remember exact purchased date but I do remember that they opened bitcoin exchange market and I could saw bitcoin chart just after I bought it.

I remember bitcoin price jumped to nearly $1000 after they open exchange.

I just want to make sure the old bitcoin has value.

Your statement is kinda vague.
First, you said "there were no Bitcoin wallet in existence?" So, how did you store your Bitcoin from back then, when you received an email about Bitcoin address and password?
Then you forgot the date? Why don't you check your email and look for the date?
If I could remember Bitcoin began to hit $1,000 early in 2017. So, that's not long enough to forget.

Lastly, Bitcoin sure has value, whether it's old or new.

Some people thinks your just making a story, I hope you're not. Maybe you're just confused. Just try to be more clear precise.

I've given you the benefit of the doubt and thought that it was just a typo error and you mean around the years where bitcoin was already existing. But I don't think that you are serious with your story telling, there's no bitcoin during 2007.

Okay.. guys.. I don't make up this story.. please calm down..

As I have said as long as it's bitcoin, you can get the value of it and sell it even it was from the early days. Open your old HDD and check the wallet and see how much bitcoin you have there. You don't have to detail any important details like private keys or any login credentials. Just do it alone.

Yes.. It was 2007... I guess.. not 20 years ago..

again you are confused

I bought it just before they open bitcoin exchange.

how can you have bought something that has not yet been created? or you bought it in 2017 and are getting confused

Anyone remember this ancient story?

I'm sure no one remembers this story

Okay..

I just want to make sure the old bitcoin has value.

to facilitate the explanation you need to start by answering the following:

1 - How long have you had a computer and how often did you move the computer and you already touched the computer hardware?

2 - how many years do you keep this HD?

I guess about 20 years ago.

You probably bought a scammed bitcoin, if you buy that last 2009, then there might be a chance that it's a real bitcoin.
Better read in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin about bitcoin so you will be educated, early investors made a lot of money if they sell even at the price now, so you might made a fortune if you are holding a real bitcoin, but as you said 20 years ago, no bitcoin has exist at that time yet.

I found old harddisk drive that probably has this old bitcoin.

Check what's inside the drive first and update us here.  Grin

Okay we believe you it's your story, by the way, and we have no way to not believe it. But let us get this straight to the point because if you are saying the bitcoin you bought was from 2007 then we would say don't spend thousands of it just to retrieve the data because the real circulating Bitcoin in the present has been developed later in the year 2009.

If you can retrieve the private key of it or it was email on you then it will be all yours, yes you can decide what to do with it. The question is, are you sure that it was really the Bitcoin thing of the present or does the funds corresponding to that address hasn't move yet? I think there's no old Bitcoin my friend. If you think that it reached $1k when you've bought it or have emailed on you, whatsoever, then you might be wrong to think it was the year 2007 because the very first record that Bitcoin reach a thousand dollars was only in the year 2013.

If your story is true, and probably you bought it not that long ago (at least not in 2007), you probably use a custodial wallet (or even a fake one) that also have the copy of your private key (hell, they sent it via e-mail!). Even if your HDD has some traces of the private key that they sent you, I bet they'd probably emptied your wallet first.

This is not a matter of whether your 'old' coins have value or not, but whether it's still there or not.

Wow I guess nowadays there are a lots of people who want merits so much that they made things up and post on Bitcointalk forums despite the fact that they have literally no knowledge about what they're talking.
Bitcoin is believed to be developed at around 2009 which is 11 years ago. In compairation to what you said, if you are not just a newbie who wants merit so much, you have faced a scammer. I personally think you are a greedy man who just want to shitpost here. Have a great day Smiley

I do not think that the OP is looking for merit but it looks like he got scammed by someone or may be someone made a pitch to sell him old bitcoins  Cheesy.

It is not that hard to search to understand what you are talking about. If someone is trying to scam you do not fall for that and for the bitcoin valuation, if it is bitcoin it has value and if you are holding shitcoin that claims to be bitcoin then it is a different story  Tongue.

even in day one nobody would have created the private key on your behalf and then send you the address in an email! you should have made the key yourself and received the payment there.
from what you say about the hard disk and the money you paid for the recovery and the disk it sounds to me that you might have actually been scammed into buying a fake wallet or disk thinking there is bitcoin on it!

There is a FOMO brewing...

Whaaaat? Did you just say 20 years back?
Are you Satoshi? Or Patoshi? Or Faketoshi? Whoever!
I mean, Bitcoin recently completed its decade and you made it 20 years old, wow. And please show me a proof where you've bought something on eBay using Bitcoins during its early days?

I'm glad you already got too many great replies here!
Anyways, you sound greedy enough that you don't even know how much BTC that hard disk possesses? And someone mailed you the private key? Then why the hell don't you open up that email? You'll get your privkey and so your BTC too. Cheesy
