I am looking to buy a coursera course, but it doens't accepts bitcoin as payment method.

I know they accept paypal and I could exchange BTC for paypal, but paypal has very abusive fees in my country.

Does anyone know any way to pay a course with bitcoin there?

You can ask someone to buy it for you using credit card and pay them in bitcoin. Of course they need to be trustworthy of doing this proxy subscription for you.

I can see they accept most types of credit cards except Indian cards.

I dont know if Coursera subscriptions are locked to the device or the account. If it is locked to the account then the buyer would give you the login details and you could use it. If it is locked to the device then you are out of luck. Did you think of that yet, or is it not feasible there?

Is the course listed only on Coursera and nowhere else? Embarrassed

According to their Accepted Payments Method page, your options are credit card, debit card, or PayPal. They also accept prepaid cards.

You could therefore buy a prepaid credit card from a site such as https://www.coinsbee.com/, and then use that prepaid card to purchase your course.

I do not think this is allowed, as they have a rule that prevents making gifts or transferring them[1] through accounts and therefore I think they will strive to verify their sources.

You could therefore buy a prepaid credit card from a site such as https://www.coinsbee.com/, and then use that prepaid card to purchase your course.
I think he needs to ask the support team about that. Quote the following part:
Quote
You can't use a pre-paid card to pay for a Coursera subscription.
So I don't think these cards will work because the name and address will most likely be verified.

Contact the support team before purchasing these cards.

Everything is so bureaucratic. Even in a platform such as coursera which is teaching about the latest new technologies they are stuck in old payment methods...

Thanks for pointing it out.

I will probably just pay about 6-10% in fees and use a credit card... Undecided
Currency conversion is very expensive here.

Coursera have two payment options - there are one time payments which grant you access to a specific course for 180 days, or there are recurring subscriptions to wider topics which grant you unlimited access until you stop paying.

It says you can't use a pre-paid card to pay for a subscription, which makes sense because they don't want to set up recurring payments from a payment method which will quickly run out. You are however allowed to use pre-paid cards for one time payments.

So if bitmover is looking to simply buy a course as he says, as opposed to pay a subscription, then a pre-paid card should work fine.

No harm in checking with their support as hugeblack says though.

It's difficult for any business, even if it's selling courses to be payed via cryptocurrencies. There is still a lack of trust and also lack of knowledge of from where the money is coming from!

I can say that you can try and ask for financial aid on courses at coursera, and normally you can get that aid! You can check in youtube for some help on this matter!

Why dont you use a credit/prepaid card for the payment? They are much cheaper than other forms of payment. Even when they accept bitcoin as a payment method, I doubt that it would be cheap. Transferring your cryptocurrencies into cash is not hard these days since we have thousands of different exchange services. After funding your card, you can easily purchase a course on coursera without any problem. According to my knowledge, using prepaid/credit cards is quite fast and it has the potential to compare with bitcoin, too. The only disadvantage is they are centralized by the banking system

Coursera does not offer only paypal. As you are not wanting to use paypal as your payment method, you can use virtual card for purchasing. You will be able to buy virtual card by the help of bitcoin.

I dony think they offer such payment option. We have some integrations now that can convert from digital to fiat, so you can do such before you make your payment with fiat currency if what you are holding is BTC or other digital assets.

Unless you live in a developed country, it is very expensive to send money abroad. It is much cheaper to pay with btc.

They are much cheaper than other forms of payment. Even when they accept bitcoin as a payment method, I doubt that it would be cheap.

An international credit card payment in Brazil costs about 12% in taxes and fees.

The biggest tax is called IOF here and it costs exactly 6.38% of EVERY international transaction. Additionally, you will have to pay bank fees, card fees, spread (currency exchange ratio different from the real one) and so on.

This option is only available in free countries. You cannot fund credit cards neither debit card with btc here.

@o_e_l_e_o do you happen to know whether Coinsbee requires people to complete KYC before buying prepaid cards, or can they be bought anonymously?

Old quote, but I couldn't find an answer to this question.

Tell me what you need, I'll dump it for you if I have access to it. First one is free, to prove that I am legit. If you need more we can work with trusted escrow or directly, depending on your choice.

Sorry, I missed this question.

You can buy them anonymously without completing KYC, but to use them you have to activate them with a name, address and email before you can use them. At least, you have to in the US, but I can't image the other countries they stock cards for - Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, UK, and the EU - are any different, though.

Although I've not done so, I don't see any reason you can't register them under fake credentials. However, if you are using them to buy a physical product which is going to be shipped to you then your shipping details are going to have to match the fake credentials you activate them with.

Does anyone know how those prepaid cards compare to blockcard or bitpay's reloadable cards.

https://getblockcard.com/
https://bitpay.com/card/

Which is more widely accepted and more likely to process through merchant gateways.   Huh

Unfortunately, they don't have many payment options available. Bitcoin debit card could be an option, but I'm not sure that they would accept such card.
For residents of my country, Coursera courses is completely free until the end of this year. I haven't used Coursera so far, so I don't know how exactly it works. But I doubt that I can signup with my name and let someone else to use these courses.

I think you can. But some of the courses will give you a nice certification in the end, and it would show your name.

You might have some problems if you give your name and someone from an IP from another country uses it a lot in coursera.... you might get banned or something like that.

I already paid using credit card. Sad.

Since you already paid with credit card, why not take advantage of crypto exchange sponsored cards next time? Binance launched its own card recently and it works like a regular debit card according to their announcement. Just top it up with bitcoin and its ready for payment. I know there are other crypto cards that has been launched before such as MCO and Tenx
