Was having a debate with a friend. What if I have to choose between my family or my country?
The moment I mentioned that I would never fail my family for an imaginary concept such as nation with imaginary borders, he called me anti-national lol.
Well, I guess, many people are over patriotic. Lands are bought, traded, countries change their names, their governments, their geography. No country is permanent or tangible. Like Alaska was bought by US from Russia.
What's your take ?

I'd fight to possible death for my freedom if it was in big danger, but probably not alone because I'd obviously have no chance. If your nation's freedom was taken away, your children could as well. Just taking a quick look over what absurd measures some countries have imposed during the last few months is enough to know that one day, all your rights could be in the wrong hands and things could drastically change.
Isn't protesting basically a risk of giving your life for your nation? Or do I wrongly understand the concept of "giving your life for your nation"?

If everyone is a slave, none is slave... imagine you work in a nation with highly developed economy like germany, or usa, then massive migrant crisis happens with riots demanding the abolishment of the police etc. this way millions of people become by hand potato planters which where specialists in that highly devloped economy, they all become poor why do you think hitler and napoleon attack russia, or the usa attacked russia and continued hostility? they wanted chaos there in order to drain their best labour for their own empowerment. people are like wolves to each other naturally |

joining a national military is not 'freedom fighting' nor is it protecting your family directing.
its resource fighting.
people call the freedom to drive their gas guzzling cars at a cheap fuel cost. a freedom fight of invading the middle east to steal their oil.
the first world war where most men went to war. helped the women left behind being the majority population so that politicians had to give them the rights to vote because they were the majority and their opinions started to count. (their thoughts not mine)
women became empowered by being the majority working population and if they went on strike no one was left to run the factories.
this was not about shooting someone in a foreign country giving women rights to vote. this was about just not having the men at home that empowered and gave women more responsibilities and thus more rights.
yes occassionally there is a couple terror attacks that can kil people within the nation. but these terrorist activities have nothing to do with the political power of what laws are rights and responsibilities.
infact its not the terrorists that change laws to expand or infringe on peoples rights or responsibilities. its the nations own politicians
so if you want to be a freedom fighter. dont attack a foreigner in another country thousands of miles away. find ways to stop your local politician from over reacting to a situation and prevent them from helping to implement new laws that infringe your rights.
getting arrested for political dissent is far more healthier than getting a limb blown off because you entered a foreigners private property they are protecting as THEIR right.
it makes me laugh how freedom fighters want to defend their own property. but get angry when others want to protect their property and want to stop the first person from invading.
if you want to be a freedom fighter and not just a brainwashed racist killer. aim your target at local politicians
millions die in other countries for oil/drugs but too many people are afraid to risk their reputation by stopping a politician from reducing peoples freedoms

There is no use for debate with other people because they will have their own opinions, and each of us will defend it.
If your family is in danger, you should prioritize your family because the family is an important thing in your life. If your country is in danger and related to your family, then you can defend your country because I am sure that other people will do the same as you to choose your country.
So you know how important your family and your country, and that will depend on the situations.

Giving life for nation as in, for example, you have to choose between your welfare of family and the country. Assume it's 1969. Let's say you are an astronaut ready to go to moon. You have been trained for months for this. It's USA vs Russia, who wins space mission first Let's say, you have a patient in your family who needs a kidney. If you give him/her the kidney, then you save their life. But then you won't be able to go to moon in time to make your country, USA proud and beating the Russians in space achievement. So, would you give your kidney to that family member or would you let him/her die for the good name of your country? |

A nation is a made-up concept, usually made along the linguistic lines. It is obvious to people who are fluent in more than one language. Of course, your family is more important than your 'country'. Countries come and go, your bloodlines stay. |

I choose a family.
Not sure if my nation will remember me, unlike my family. If I do not protect my family, then the likelihood that the nation will then protect my family tends to zero.

Is very difficult for someone to give his life to somebody you know, even some people find it difficult to donate blood to their parents on the sick bed.
For me i can only give my life to a baby that have tested things of the world because the baby don't know anything concerning life.
So therefore children are worthy for someone to sacrificed he/her life to.
But for those politician's or business entrepreneurs who are well known to the society I can't give my precious life to them because they have tested life and also stained their life somewhere in order to be rich and population in their environment.
Those species of people are not worthy for people to die for irrespective their wealth or the level of charity given to the less privilege.
They have to answer their Call from God if God finally need their presences because no life that's not precious.

First of all, asking me if I'd rather die for this or that is strange, because I wouldn't want to die for any reason. There's not much choice there if you're going to be killed anyway.
One thing I'm sure of is I'd never want to die for my country. With all due respect for the veterans, I'd feel like my death meant nothing. To the government you're just meat, pawns on a board. Unlike your family, they won't care and they won't remember you.
